Rubbish Chocolate

(Somewhat lighthearted!)

Having not eaten any chocolate for 6 weeks plus I was particularly excited for Easter Sunday and had put in a requested for either a Lindt Bunny (1st choice) or Would have been happy with Cadbury’s. I’m actually gutted this morning to have received an Aldi £2.99 Giant Bunny thing - blergh. Of course I will be acting grateful to my husband when he comes home from work later but, seriously? That sort of rubbish is reserved for children who don’t care about rubbish tasting chocolate surely? WIBU to go and buy my own Lindt Bunny in secret tomorrow? At least the diet isn’t ruined because I don’t want to eat any of the one I’ve got haha

Palm oil isn’t just one product, there are many different types. However they’re all generally mild tasting, which is what makes it such a versatile product. It’s obviously a product many people chose to boycott, for good reason, but I very much doubt it’s affecting the taste of your chocolate

MagicKingdomDizzy · 21/04/2019 12:19

Usually I'd disagree and say you should be grateful. However, much to my surprise I received a lovely Lindt Nocciolatte egg which has raised my standards and forever ruined other (shit) chocolate for me.

There can be a big difference in taste between brands.

Aldi chocolate is over rated imo. Lindt much better! Yes OP, go and buy yourself a Lindt one!

I do like aldi chocolate (my Easter egg this year is from there) but I think it's always a bit disappointing to ask for something specific and not get it - I think it shows a lack of care and consideration, as it's not like they have to put any thought or effort into choosing.

Eg this past Christmas I asked my partner for a specific perfume and when I unwrapped it he'd got me the wrong one (he'd got me the right brand but the wrong perfume) and I was a bit sad about that as I thought it showed a lack of care iyswim?

Turned out in the end hed gone into the shop and asked for the correct one, assumed the shop assistant knew what they were on about so he didn't check what they'd put in the bag and ended up with the wrong one Grin

I admit I was expecting to get flamed for being ungrateful (even though I would never say anything to him), so this thread has cheered me up significantly and has stopped me beating myself up for feeling disappointed. Am going to treat myself to a Lindt one next week and share the other one with him and the kids (so I don’t have to eat it or look ungrateful!) hope everyone is having a lovely day xx

Normally Aldi chocolate is amazing, but I had one of their Easter eggs today and it was the worst chocolate I’d ever tasted.

WindsweptEgret · 21/04/2019 13:03

Aldi chocolate is far nicer than Cadbury’s and comparable with Lindt (depending on your taste for sweetness as Lindt has got a bit too sweet recently). I was wondering if it had changed, DS has Lindt and was saying it was too sweet.

SpoonBlender · 21/04/2019 13:36

Just looked up the ingredients in a Lindt bunny and they're barely what I'd consider chocolate:
Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Milk Ingredients, Cocoa Mass, Lactose, Soy Lecithin, Barley Malt Extract, Artificial Flavour

Bleh.

PrincessTiggerlily · 21/04/2019 13:45

Someone gave me an Aldi egg and chocs - done up in a purple wrapper to look like Cadburys and it was awful. None of the family, 6 of us, could eat it - straight to the bin.

Orangecake123 · 21/04/2019 14:35

OP you haven't tried the Ferrero Rocher Bunny 100g . I bought two.

Just pinched DGDs Aldi mini eggs, much better than Cadbury.

shortsaint · 21/04/2019 15:22

I'm with the pro Aldi. Much better, usually higher cocoa content, bought in from Europe chocolate.

Cadbury's = once good now owned by Kraft and going the American shit choc way...

I DO like a Lindt (European see?) bunny though.

Hotel Chocolat all the way for me though....

And all the Cadbury's WILL be half price in a One Stop tomorrow.

Gingerkittykat · 21/04/2019 15:31

YANBU I normally love Aldi chocolate but the egg I got from there is really shit chocolate. It is sickly sweet, only slightly creamy and has a grainy texture. The chocolates inside were rubbish too, worse than dairy milk.

I've eaten a small bit of the egg but the rest is going in the bin, I'm not wasting calories on horrible chocolate.

I'll be hitting the Co-op tomorrow, they always have some of their posh eggs half price.
