Rubbish Chocolate

(Somewhat lighthearted!)

Having not eaten any chocolate for 6 weeks plus I was particularly excited for Easter Sunday and had put in a requested for either a Lindt Bunny (1st choice) or Would have been happy with Cadbury’s. I’m actually gutted this morning to have received an Aldi £2.99 Giant Bunny thing - blergh. Of course I will be acting grateful to my husband when he comes home from work later but, seriously? That sort of rubbish is reserved for children who don’t care about rubbish tasting chocolate surely? WIBU to go and buy my own Lindt Bunny in secret tomorrow? At least the diet isn’t ruined because I don’t want to eat any of the one I’ve got haha

Aldi chocolate is disgusting.

diddl · 21/04/2019 08:44

Tbh if I'd particularly requested a Lindt bunny then I'd expect to get that.

If I'd just requested choc for Easter then I'd be OK with an Aldi one.

BeenHereForAges · 21/04/2019 08:44

Oh dear I've received 2 of these. I was worried the giant shiny fellow looked a bit sickly....
He'll probably end up as crispy cakes for the kids.
Go buy yourself the posh bunny. (& get me one too please!)

Rockmysocks · 21/04/2019 08:46

Aldi chocolate is really nice, especially the Moser Roth range. If I'd been given cadburys over aldi, I'd have been disappointed.

iamruth · 21/04/2019 08:46

@reallybadidea No need for swaps then, you can have it WinkGrin

I love Lindt Easter bunnies but they have to go in the fridge. I ate some that was room temperature last night and it was so greasy/slimey that I actually didn’t finish it. I assume it’s palm oil rearing its ugly head again 🙄

iamruth · 21/04/2019 08:47

Who knew there was such a huge divide in the Easter Egg stakes?! It’s definitely Lindt or cadbury’s all the way for me!

reallybadidea · 21/04/2019 08:48

Fantastic! To be fair, I have just eaten a Mars Bar Krispie for breakfast though Grin

Eastermoaner · 21/04/2019 08:50

Those bunny’s from Aldi and Lidl are nicer than the Lindt ones! IMO anyway Confused

WindsweptEgret · 21/04/2019 08:51

Would be good if we could actually swap chocolate. We have about 10 mint Lindt balls in the fridge that no one wants to eat.

iamruth · 21/04/2019 08:52

@eastermoaner hmmm maybe I should go and get a Lindt one and do a taste test Wink

Aldi chocolate is really nice. Lindt is revolting!

englishdictionary · 21/04/2019 08:55

I have never eaten Aldi chocolate so can't compare but Lindt is lovely. Cadbury's hasn't been the same for quite some time now. I had a dairy milk the other day for the first time in about 3 years and i struggled to get the chocolate taste. It was just slimy. Horrible stuff. Terrys chocolate orange has gone the same way.

JE17 · 21/04/2019 09:07

I love the Lindt bunnies, one was waiting for me when I got up this morning. If an Aldi interloper had taken his place I'd be gutted. Luckily DH knows how to maintain the harmony in this household. Go and treat yourself to a half price one in a couple of days, the half price ones taste best of all.

DontCallMeShitley · 21/04/2019 11:59

Oh bugger, please don't tell me my Lindt bunny has palm oil in it Sad. I have never had one before and will return him to Asda if he contains palm oil as I refuse to buy chocolate that contains it.

On the subject of Aldi/Lidl chocolate, some of it is grim, especially the Easter stuff. I had some Easter chocolates last year and they were dire, looked on the label and - palm oil. They did go in the bin they were so disgusting.

memaymamo · 21/04/2019 12:05

Normal Lindt chocolate does not contain palm oil but the fillings do. If palm oil is from sustainable sources, what's wrong with it?

Passthecherrycoke · 21/04/2019 12:06

I hate this too- I also think also chocolate is horrid (tasteless)

Passthecherrycoke · 21/04/2019 12:06

Aldi not also

englishdictionary · 21/04/2019 12:08

It's disgusting 🤷🏻‍♀️

Marmite27 · 21/04/2019 12:08

Aldi chocolate is lovely! Much nicer than Cadbury’s. The 10 for £1 Easter lollies don’t have any palm oil in them so have a proper ‘snap’ and your bunny is likely made out of the same stuff.

I’d be thrilled with Aldi and disappointed with Cadbury!

Order654 · 21/04/2019 12:12

I’d be annoyed to receive naff Aldi chocolate when I asked for lidt!

And I would say that’s not what I asked forGrin

TheInvestigator · 21/04/2019 12:12

@memaymamo

There is no such thing as sustainable palm oil. Not in any real sense of the word. They get away with calling it that because it's an industry which is worth too much to the economy so "sustainable" just means maybe a little bit better but it isn't sustainable. Look it up.

Comefromaway · 21/04/2019 12:15

Aldi chocolate is far nicer than Cadbury’s and comparable with Lindt (depending on your taste for sweetness as Lindt has got a bit too sweet recently).

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 21/04/2019 12:16

Chocolate shouldn't be chewy, Cadbury is due to the user of hydrogenated vegetable fats and Palm oil instead of cocoa butter, mmm delicious. I also used to work for a high end chocolatier and can't touch Cadbury , galaxy etc, it doesn't melt the way good chocolate does. I read recently that aldi use the same chocolatier as fortnum and mason for their Easter specialities. I did have one of their dark chocolate reindeer it was used as a place setting at a Christmas meal at a friend's house (similar to the lindt bunnies in packaging etc) and was surprised by the quality compared to the well known brands in this country.

Alsohuman · 21/04/2019 12:16

Aldi chocolate is fantastic. Much better than Cadbury’s eat al.
