To ask what do your children think of the Easter bunny?

My son 7 told me tonight he couldn't wait for the Easter bunny to come. He was dead serious. We never make a big deal out of Easter to us it's just a normal day and we buy dc a small gift rather than Easter eggs and they get too many from family members but we're always clear the gift comes from both me and DH. We're big into Christmas and I make Christmas very magical but I'm not sure if he is too old to believe in the Easter bunny. Any thoughts please? Thanks

I’ve never done it. I mean it’s a bunny, my kids were never gonna buy into that one.

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 20/04/2019 22:58

My kids have never thought it was real. I genuinely had no idea people did this.

Saltisford · 20/04/2019 23:01

I totally thought it was real when I was a kid. In fact I still thought it was real after I found out that Santa wasn’t real!

ilovesooty · 20/04/2019 23:03

Isn't it just a commercial invention?

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 20/04/2019 23:03

It's kind of sweet.

ChoccyBiccyTastic · 20/04/2019 23:04

I had the same as you, OP. My parents didn't do the Easter Bunny, and so it didn't really occur to do it wih mine, but the DC1 started getting excited about it. I figured hiding the eggs in the garden is no skin off my nose. There are precious few years when they believe in magic.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 20/04/2019 23:05

We don't celebrate Easter so no Easter bunny in our house never has been. We celebrating a long weekend with chocolate 😂

Kittykatmacbill · 20/04/2019 23:06

We have a treasure hunt in the garden but it’s just us. No Easter bunny here.

My parents give them paper egg with we toys and craft bits and the ILs forgot.

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2019 23:07

I had a message from my 22 year old dd who is in holiday with her boyfriend sayingbthat she hopes the Easter Bunny hasn’t forgotten that she’ll be home next weekend....

sockatoe · 20/04/2019 23:08

I didn't really know it was a thing. Ours get chocolate from us if we remember, chocolate from grandparents maybe a couple of others. Santa brings presents at Christmas but bunnies bringing chocolate are a step too far!

MadameJosephine · 20/04/2019 23:09

We don’t do the Easter Bunny but don’t really do Easter to be honest. DD has had a couple of eggs from family members but that’s it. We’ve had some nice days out in the school holidays and I treated her to a few new books and a dvd of the new Mary Poppins film but she’s already had them so not Easter presents as such.

Paddingtonthebear · 20/04/2019 23:09

No my 6yr old doesn’t think a bunny brings the eggs, she knows they come from real people as they are handed directly to her and we hand to others

Glittery1 · 20/04/2019 23:11

My almost 10 year old still seriously believes!

LillithsFamiliar · 20/04/2019 23:12

My parents never did it but when DS was little he came home from nursery/school very excited about the Easter bunny coming. So the Easter bunny visits our house and leaves clues and hidden eggs. Smile

newtlover · 20/04/2019 23:12

DD1 swore blind she actually saw the easter bunny, he was wearing red dungarees and a blue shirt Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2019 23:14

My DC are no longer small, but we never did the Easter Bunny in our house.

Leeds2 · 20/04/2019 23:14

I have never really known the Easter Bunny to be a "thing."

checkingforballoons · 20/04/2019 23:15

DS4 has suddenly decided the Easter Bunny is a thing, and he’s desperate for a hunt so I’ve just hidden some teeny eggs and a ‘paint your own egg cup’ set for him to find in the morning. Hope that’s satisfactory, I’m not really sure what he’s expecting Grin

HomeMadeMadness · 20/04/2019 23:16

I never did it when I was little but DH did (his dad is American which is probably why). We do it for both of our kids and I do admit I love it. Makes it much more exciting a thing than just getting loads of chocolate. They love doing the Easter egg hunt and finding a special basket at the end. We don't do gifts at Easter (too many other chances to be commercial through the year!). Eldest is 7 so not sure how long we have left for stuff like this but I'll take it while we can.

Sosososotired · 20/04/2019 23:16

I have never ever done the Easter bunny gimmick. However DS’s dad used to when he was younger (we weren’t together). One Easter DS asked me about the Easter bunny and I told him it wasn’t real as a very matter of fact statement, not realising he believed!!! He was so upset, so the ‘Easter bunny’ had to write him a letter Wink All was fine. He must have been about 6/7.

I genuinely didn’t think the Easter bunny was a real thing!

EllenRach · 20/04/2019 23:19

Mine know we (and family) buy them eggs but they like the Easter bunny dress up - they know someone is inside. We don't pretend it's real (like Father Christmas)

TroysMammy · 20/04/2019 23:19

I was telling my niece a simplified version of Easter. Why we eat hot cross buns and Easter eggs. In that
3 minutes of information there was no mention of the Easter Bunny. Anyway it's a rabbit.

Flobalob · 20/04/2019 23:21

My parents never did it. I started doing it when they were about 4 or 5 and I realised it was a "thing". Last year my 8 and 9 year olds asked for the truth and I admitted the Easter Bunny was me. This year my now 10 year old (ASD) seems to have forgotten. I said that the Easter Bunny would visit tonight (with a little grin on my face) and she was really excited and can't wait for the Easter Bunny to come. The now 9 year old went to correct her but he saw me pull a face and hushed up. He was always a bit cynical about characters dressed up. Both firm believers in Santa but they know year 6 is the last year he comes. After that, parents bring the gifts.

Trinpy · 20/04/2019 23:21

I've never mentioned the Easter bunny to them and hadn't planned on pretending it's real; however my DC have decided it exists so I play along as I don't particularly care whether they think the chocolate I buy them on this one day of the year is actually from a rabbit Grin.

RelativePitch · 20/04/2019 23:24

When I was little it was the bells that scattered eggs in the garden (French mum) and I really believed in them until about 8. Flying bells WTF! But I do the Easter bunny for my DCs 7 and 10. I get up at 6am and hide eggs in the garden. I'm not sure they believe, but it's quite exciting.
