My son 7 told me tonight he couldn't wait for the Easter bunny to come. He was dead serious. We never make a big deal out of Easter to us it's just a normal day and we buy dc a small gift rather than Easter eggs and they get too many from family members but we're always clear the gift comes from both me and DH. We're big into Christmas and I make Christmas very magical but I'm not sure if he is too old to believe in the Easter bunny. Any thoughts please? Thanks

Easter bunny has never featured in my life or that of my kids. Sometimes we do an egg hunt but they know it's me that puts them out because they nag me for days!

reluctantbrit · 21/04/2019 10:01

I am from Germany and the Easter Bunny is a big thing there. We always do it, never buy the big eggs as they are not something special for me. In my childhood the big eggs were presents for adults, never for children .

I think DD got it together with Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. That doesn’t mean she is not excited searching the garden for eggs and a small gift. She also gets a bunny and a little gift from the grandparents.

Blackandpurple · 21/04/2019 10:04

Ive never bothered with the Easter bunny nor egg hunts.

I saw a post on FB this morning and mum had recorded the kids 3 yr old going round on a hunt at home, even hiding an egg in the gas fire😂 then photos of the kid with wrapped presents like its bloody Christmas day! WTF?

WeirdCatLady · 21/04/2019 10:12

I love any excuse for presents and a celebration. The Easter Bunny has left dd17 a nice pile of stuff 🐰

Mind you, I still believe in Santa and I’m 46 🎅🏻

Loyaultemelie · 21/04/2019 10:17

Dd1 knows rightly it's us but she is at the not own up in case I get less stage Grin
Dd2 I think does.
Both still firmly believe in Santa although this might be Dd1's last year Sad

Nicpem1982 · 21/04/2019 10:21

No easter bunny in our house either dd 4 has had a small gift and some chocolate but she knows they are from us/friends/neighbours etc.

In our house the easter bunny is a nice character in a film or a book

Lostthefairytale · 21/04/2019 10:31

Can't stand the easter bunny and I've never been asked about it until this morning. The conversation went like this:

DS(4): yay it's easter
Me: Yes so after breakfast you can have a bath while I get the easter egg hunt ready.
DS: The Easter bunny hides the Easter eggs in Nathaniel's House.
Me: Well in this house Mummy hides the eggs.
DS: So what does the Easter bunny do?
Me: Nothing, we don't believe in the Easter bubby in this house.
DS: OK.

No tears, no ruined childhood, no need to indulge more ridiculous traditions. Job done.

ShannonRockallMalin · 21/04/2019 10:38

Never even knew the Easter bunny was a thing until I was an adult, so never did with my kids. However we've always done an egg hunt. My 13 and 15 year old DSs still ran round the house looking for eggs like lunatics this morning. I think it's the first time I've seen them out of bed before midday on a Sunday since Christmas!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 21/04/2019 11:07

Nope . No Easter Bunny when I was a kid nor did I tell my kids of it.

I used to get up and my eggs were there on the table . Done the same with my own DCs.

TheFastandCurious · 21/04/2019 11:14

We make a big deal out of Easter including decorating the house, having a hot cross bun brekkie and having family over for a lamb roast each year but even we don’t do the Easter Bunny.

I’m not having some furry fucker take the credit for the lovely Easter Egg hunt i’ve devised.

sweetpea37 · 21/04/2019 14:30

Thanks everyone I got up early and threw an Easter egg hunt together with hard boiled eggs and food dye. I didn't mention the Easter bunny much and he seemed happy enough

Really surprised at how many people don’t do the Easter bunny for their kids! It’s just as magical as Father Christmas, my little one was so excited today.

Can’t be doing with all the religious bullshit though so it’s strictly a spring and chocolate celebration in our house.

NerrSnerr · 21/04/2019 14:44

My parents didn't celebrate Easter really, I remember one year we all got Thornton's eggs with our names on them but that was the only year we got anything (and we didn't go to church or anywhere else). It's surprising as my mum believed in god. My eldest is 4 and this year we did the bunny thing and her and her 2 year old brother excitedly did an egg hunt this morning.

My parents didn't bother with a lot of things (bonfire night, local events etc) and I felt I missed out a bit so I always try and make the effort.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 21/04/2019 14:59

No Easter Bunny here, but a treasure hunt with little clues and mini eggs/ sweets at each location and big eggs at the end.

yearinyearout · 21/04/2019 15:10

There was never an Easter bunny in this house...is it a recent development? Our dc had Easter eggs from us/friends/family but that was it.

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 21/04/2019 15:15

We are atheists. We don’t do Easter or the chocolate. We went for burgers today. The bunny has never been a thing for my kids.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 21/04/2019 15:16

It's just never been a 'thing' in our family. The first I heard of the concept of the Easter bunny coming was this year when my kids brought the idea home from school.

When I was little we had an egg from our parents and grandparents, and if we were at one particular granny's house with our cousins we did a hunt in the garden set up by the adults. 🤷

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 21/04/2019 15:57

My children have both bought into the Easter bunny however I’m not sure they believed so much as liked to pretend it was real? I make a big deal of Christmas and I’m 100% sure they believe/believed in Father Christmas though.

Either way I see no harm in truly believing or just pretending.

LittleMissHappy19 · 21/04/2019 15:59

I can't believe the amount of people that have only just heard of the Easter Bunny!

Thirty years ago, when I was very very little he came!

I don't understand why people wouldn't do it, unless it's against their religion..

But our neighbours are Muslims. They have a little boy, and they join in..when the Easter bunny leaves his trail of carrots from our house across the lawn, and through the hedge, the Easter Bunny then goes across their lawn and in through their window, carrying on the trail of little carrots to drop off some eggs Smile

It's so cute the excitement between them both when they go and give each other an egg on Easter Day, and show each other exactly which way the Easter bunny came!

It's just a bit of fun! So exciting and magical for children! cheap to get eggs and fill them with little chocolates for a hunt! There are so many activities you can do that cost nothing..maybe some of you should try it Smile

I have seen so many posters on MN, moaning how expensive days out are with children..like the zoo, aquarium etc (which I agree with, they are expensive!)
And then when there are opportunities like Easter etc..they won't do it!

Ffsnosexallowed · 21/04/2019 16:06

We were looking after my nephew yesterday (3.5). He asked me what my DD (9) was getting for Easter. I told him she would get an Easter egg "yes, but what's she getting?", he persisted. He couldn't get his head round the idea that site wasn't getting toys. 🤨🤔

CheshireChat · 21/04/2019 16:20

Yeah, I'm not English so the Easter bunny is definitely a 'thing'. Just a couple of presents today and a chocolate egg , but I'll be doing an Easter egg hunt and a roast next week.

I'm just making egg shaped brownies and dyeing eggs as well.

We've been doing "bunny on the shelf" to tie in the two Easters so we definitely went all out.

BertrandRussell · 21/04/2019 20:37

Back in the dawn of time when I was a child, we were the only family that did the Easter Rabbit and an egg hunt.My father was Australian- I wonder whether that had anything to do with it? He was very popular with the neighbourhood children anyway!
