To ask what do you do at Easter?

I'm having my parents over for Easter Sunday lunch. Just relaxed at home on Easter Friday and it's a choice between relaxing on Easter Monday or travelling for 2 hours to Mils house for dinner. What do you do for Easter? Do you have any traditions? Do you spend it with your family/ inlaws and if so what day is the family meal? Happy Easter

We go to my parents for a meal and Easter egg hunt or they come to us. Lunchtime, on Easter Sunday

PinkBuffalo · 20/04/2019 20:16

Happy Easter OP!
This year my gym opened yesterday morning for a yoga session which I went to. Bootcamp session at the gym Monday. My normal gym sessions this morning then met up for lunch with friends at a nice pub.
Tomorrow I'm visiting family and delivering Easter eggs to my nieces and nephews.
I keep busy as its good for me

Nicolastuffedone · 20/04/2019 20:17

Church tomorrow and family over for dinner....

nancy75 · 20/04/2019 20:19

We have a Christmas style dinner with my parents on Easter Sunday & eat Easter eggs

hidinginthenightgarden · 20/04/2019 20:21

As a non religious family we treat it like any other sunday with the addition of lots of chocolate.

Gigia · 20/04/2019 20:24

Yesterday we went to a gym class as a family then had a normal day , this morning we did a circuit class then we relaxed at home. Tomorrow we are going wake boarding followed by a BBQ. Monday will be gym, meeting a friend for coffee and getting ready for the week ahead.

StinkyWizleteets · 20/04/2019 20:24

Nothing. Just another day

wlv12 · 20/04/2019 20:31

I worked today and tomorrow, Easter Monday the kids wake up to an Easter egg hunt and we have a pain au chocolat breakfast, eat chocolate all day and have a Christmas style roast dinner with leg of lamb.
In some ways I enjoy it more than Christmas!

Moominfan · 20/04/2019 20:31

Love time off to do family things.

Friday we visited a beach and had a bbq.

Today went to a friends bbq.

Tomorrow visiting a water park and bbq more than likely.

Monday we'll be egg rolling and bbq.

Moominfan · 20/04/2019 20:32

We really like bbqs in this family and

cardibach · 20/04/2019 20:32

Nothing. Just a nice day off.

The80sweregreat · 20/04/2019 20:33

We eat chocolate and watch rubbish tv.
It's a bit like Christmas with much less hassle.
Happy Easter mumsnetters!

Its a strange one for us this weekend though as I teach and normally Easter is part of the school holidays. However, for us this year it isn't. We've had the holidays and been back for 4 days and now have Easter weekend.

We aren't religious so don't really do anything special apart from Easter eggs. As it happens my parents are coming round for dinner and drinks, but thats as we haven't seen them for a while as we've been away rather than it being Easter. We've had a fairly relaxed Friday and Saturday, with a wander round a local village yesterday, and just in the garden today and dd has gone to a gig and sleepover tonight. No plans for Monday either.

Candlesonthetable · 20/04/2019 20:42

We do a fair bit at Easter, decorate the house, bake simnel cake, go to church Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday (for the church Easter egg hunt), and on Easter Sunday. We have family over on the bank holiday and do our Easter egg hunt then - poor DCs have to wait an extra day but they do get a special Easter breakfast with chocolate. We also do a lot in Lent with daily activities. We hide a plastic egg everyday in the house with a story and a prayer inside it, the children love looking for it. Sometimes I'm tired and 'forget' about the egg, but the children remember! Each of the Sundays in Lent we light a candle as a sort of count-down to Easter Sunday. This gets less impressive as Lent goes on and the evenings are lighter! We also do lots of crafts - mostly to do with eggs.

As Christians this is a big festival for us and so there is a lot of fun had but we try and relate it back to our faith as well.

weegiemum · 20/04/2019 20:42

Easter supper at church on Thursday.

Stations of the Cross Friday. Then, as it was such good weather and dh was off we had a barbecue!

Saturday has been quiet, dc all out at work/friends etc

Sunday is church in the morning and roast dinner in the evening though it's going to be quite hot for a roast!

Monday we've no plans as yet. Great!

Butterymuffin · 20/04/2019 20:44

Lots of travelling here and there is a downer. I like the chance to relax. One day of visiting is ok. What have you done previous years? Can you agree to alternate years visiting your parents on the Sunday, and have Monday chilling at home?

WatchingFromTheWings · 20/04/2019 21:03

I'm working.

DreamBeaver · 20/04/2019 21:05

The80sweregreat agree Easter is a bit like Christmas with less hassle. Lots of chocolate, roast dinner, relaxing with rubbish tv but not lots of presents and preparation like Christmas. Love Easter.

Butterymuffin used to be guilted into going to inlaws for the whole Easter (hsbing to arrive Friday and leaving on the Tuesday) every year which I started to resent. The guilt and demands from inlaws started to ruin Easter to the point I wouldn't look forward to it any more so decided to stay home and relax. Also one of the inlaws that gets invited is a bit of a nasty bully and puts a downer on any inlaws get together for me. Might sound bad I invite my parents for Sunday lunch but it's just for the one day and my dad helps cook the dinner and there is no family guilt or drama and I now look forward to Easter. Sorry that was a bit long and rambly

Pottered about at home today, parents and pils over tomorrow for lunch and egg hunt.

Rolling eggs tomorrow as well plus walk on the beach

Monday we are going for a nice day trip to a different beach.

Ffsnosexallowed · 20/04/2019 21:06

We were both working on Friday and will be working on Monday. Today we went to friends for BBQ. Tomorrow, normal Sunday, except we'll go and roll eggs somewhere at some point

DreamBeaver · 20/04/2019 21:08

The beach and bbqs sound nice

Loyaultemelie · 20/04/2019 21:15

Egg hunt tomorrow then lunch out.
Monday picnic and let the kids loose for awhile probably involving a playground.
Tuesday meet my DPs at a castle and a bite to eat. I have limited participation in these events with a broken knee this year but will do my best

reefedsail · 20/04/2019 21:23

We're teachers so it's always part of a longer holiday.

However, Friday I worked. Today and tomorrow is sailing all day for DS which means we hang about on shore. Monday I will wash sports kit, try to force DS's play lines into his head and rue not being more organised for the start of term.

user1493413286 · 20/04/2019 21:26

We don’t have a set tradition; sometimes we see family and sometimes we don’t. Now with DC we tend to do an Easter egg hunt on the Sunday though which is nice.

coffeeagogo · 20/04/2019 21:32

Easter Sunday is always mass at 10am, a walk if the weather allows and family dinner (DM & partner, DB, SIL and DN - I am hosting as DB did Christmas) and any randomer than any of us know and has no plans/family. This year we went camping for a couple of days but we had to be back tonight by order of DD9 is “I want to see my family at Easter” so I guess we have a full blown tradition on our hands
