To ask what we can do to keep 2 under 4s happy when stuck in a hotel in cold and rainy ibiza?

Not having a great time. Have picked the worst week ever for our only 'sun' holiday this year. Really not helped by seeing the pictures of the whole of the UK basking in glorious sunshine Grin

So we are in windy and wet ibiza. No change forecast until the day we fly home Confused. Stuck in an apartment with a 3 year old and not quite walking 15 month old (who wants to hold hands and walk endlessly in and out of the bathroom). We did try and brave the pool yesterday but it was far too cold. Anyone have any ideas? DH is talking about trying to get an early flight home!

Can never trust the weather in April/May in Spain. Just seen some footage from Benidorm on Facebook, looks awful there as well.

Try for a flight home if you can and head for a beach here, it is glorious.

Hollowvictory · 20/04/2019 10:20

Even if weather wasn't bad if you've chosen a hotel with unheated pool in April in ibiza you need wetsuits.

tablelegs · 20/04/2019 10:23

Hotel aura in port de torrent has an indoor pool. Not sure how far it is from you.

It is attached to the holiday village which you can get day passes for and a day pass for the water park (waterpark charged extra ontop of day pass) has kids club, crèche and you can stay until 6pm. Includes the buffet.

One thing we enjoy doing with small children in poor weather abroad (and we've had lots of experience!) is heading to the nearest large supermarket/hypermarket & pottering around. There is usually a children's trolley or basket on wheels for the 3-year old to push & a little cafe nearby or in the supermarket. You can look at the fish on the fish counter & buy them each a little treat (& 🍷 for you!)

Another thing is to see what local buses/trains are running & just go for a ride. Always exciting for little ones & you will get to see a bit of the local scenery!

I do sympathise though, these days can be hard work, to say the least.

Dont spend money on flights home unless theyre super cheap.
Play games have an adventure? Does it matter if you get wet? Have a hot shower when home.

Maldives2006 · 20/04/2019 15:59

It’s due to improve on Tuesday Ibiza is a beautiful island hide a car and go and explore!!

PutyourtoponTrevor · 20/04/2019 16:22

My sister's in tenerife and it's glorious, wall to wall sunshine in the south

booellesmum · 20/04/2019 16:29

Enjoy the cafes, buy colouring books for the kids or go to a toy shop.
We have been in Majorca with the kids when the weather has been dreadful. They put on jumpers and pac a macs and played in the rain.
Pre kids we went to Ibiza when it was their worst summer for 50 years - rained for a fortnight and the hotel flooded. We had a great time exploring different areas on buses.

CupcakeDrama · 20/04/2019 16:32

This is why I was only considering hotels with kids clubs for when I book a holiday

youarenotkiddingme · 20/04/2019 16:37

Feel your pain. I once went to costa de sol with 5yo ds in April. Weather was shocking. Only positive was that we stuck because of the ash cloud and had an extended holiday in the actual sun!

We visited zoos and aquariums. Hiring a car is a great idea.

youarenotkiddingme · 20/04/2019 16:43

My friend in Costa Blanca has actually said they are scared because of the flood there Shock
Mind you - weather is meant to turn in uk next week.

weebarra · 20/04/2019 16:52

I was in Mallorca with my mum and 6 month old DS for a month 11 years ago. We had to stay as DF and DH we're coming out too.
Not much help to you but I'd avoid the Balearics in April!
Waterproofs and warm clothes!

LibbyJeffries · 20/04/2019 17:00

I'm in Spain too. It's shit

Yogagirl123 · 20/04/2019 17:13

What a shame, I wouldn’t pay extra for flights home though.

Are there any shops nearby, local toy shop for colouring books, cards games, stickers, magic painting, lunches out, make a camp.

Hoping the weather changes for you earlier than forecast 🌞

Canary Islands are good for all year round sun, as others have said a bit early in the season for Balearic Islands.

youarenotkiddingme · 20/04/2019 17:28

Canaries also have rains this time of year.
And floods.

Believe me - 6 years of living in Tenerife and it always took me by surprise every year!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 20/04/2019 19:26

We were in the Costa del Sol at the beginning of April. Sunny but coooold! We had the electric blanket on at night. When it rains in Spain it's biblical.

Is there a cinema showing English films? Shopping centre? I know, not ideal but be warm and dry.

AnOfficerAtLeastOneRankHigher · 20/04/2019 19:55

Thank you all for the suggestions and sympathy! Sorry to those of you who are in the same cloudy and soggy boat as us. We do actually have wetsuits for the kids but it's still too cold - I walked the youngest into the splash pool and he promptly turned on his heel and walked back out Grin

Seriously, lessons well and truly learnt about holidaying in April! We spoke to the rep today and there is a nearby hotel with very small heated indoor pool which we can pay to use, so keeping that up our sleeve. As some of you have said, fortunately the kids don't care, it's just harder work for us...

Former ibiza holiday rep here, there's not a lot to do when it rains in afraid, as it's not a year round resort the facilities to Methodists happy in the cold don't get built.
I used to feel as sorry for anyone travelling low season. April/may/Sept are so hot and miss with the weather

sashh · 21/04/2019 06:33

PutyourtoponTrevor

How is that relevant? The OP is in the mediterranean, your sister is off the coast of Western Sahara.

Teateaandmoretea · 21/04/2019 07:37

Yes holidays in places where the sun shines when the weather's poor, it isn't like the UK which is geared up for shite weather and you can always find something to do.

Sorry you've had a bad holiday, only a couple of days left, like others I wouldn't pay £££££ for another flight for the sake of such a short time.

Hollowvictory · 21/04/2019 14:16

I would not keep the heated pool up my sleeve, I'd go every day if the weather is poor.
Chalk it up to experience, with preschoolers you can holiday any time so can avoid the poor weather generally

AnOfficerAtLeastOneRankHigher · 22/04/2019 09:04

HollowVictory we have to pay full all inclusive rate to use the pool and we don't have the money to do this every day. And as for term time holidays I work in a school, so sadly we cant go away whenever we like Sad

OP posts:
Hollowvictory · 22/04/2019 09:31

Oh gosh that does make using the pool expensive 😭 has the weather improved at all? May half term is usually a good bet

JeezOhGeeWhizz · 04/05/2019 15:06

What happened OP? Did you stay or go home?
