Children Sitting on laps

Have NC

At what age do you think is deemed not appropriate for children to sit on laps? Be it same or different gender?

I just had my sister ask me this as niece sitting on uncles lap and I was horrified that she could be implying anything weird. There is absolutely no concerns regarding brothers actions (he works with children and has all checks etc) plus just a super great guy!

My niece is very comfortable with him (she is under 10) I kept my cool and said didn’t think anything to worry about but when do you think this should stop? If ever?

My SIL used to sit on her father's lap when she was about 20. I was new to the family and thought it was a bit Hmm at the time but she grew out of it eventually Grin.

When the child feels uncomfortable as in shy or simply just doesn't want to, it will naturally stop.

Our DS (nearly 16 and way bigger than me) still tries to snuggle on my lap. He positively leaps into DHs lap and his Uncles!

DD is (nearly) 21 and likes a cuddle with her Dad.

So long as the child is happy then I think it’s fine.

Unfortunately we seem to live in a society where every man seems to be suspected of being a pedophile.....

Name changed for this.

I see nothing wrong with children sitting on laps of family members for as long as both are comfortable with it. It is rather lovely.

However, on my 10th birthday my GF made a pass at me resulting in family going NC with him. My Uncle, defending him to my mum, said that I was sat on GF's lap and was "all over him" the day before. I've never quite forgiven him for saying that.

I was a child. I was very comfortable and it should have been fine for me to see on what was then my dear GF's lap. My uncle made me feel it was my fault GF made a pass at me (although obviously I know now it wasn't).
