IKEA sofa?

Champagnetaste · 19/04/2019 21:09

I have seen a lovely sofa in IKEA. For both the 2 and 3 seater it’s less than 1k.

Aibu to think this won’t need replaced within a year? I previously worked for a very well know sofa company so I know that even if you spend a lot of money you aren’t guaranteed quality. But it just seems too cheap

I was at IKEA last week and thought they all looked a bit pants ‘in person’, despite looking nice online...

Which one are you thinking of?

DH and I bought 2 klippan sofas when we moved in to our apartment in 2009. They cost £117 each and we were only supposed to be here for a year and didn't have much money to spend on furniture back then.
We're actually still in the apartment 10 years later (long story, desperately trying to move) and the sofas are still going strong. I've got throws and loads of pillows on mine. In fact 99% of the furniture in here is ikea and it's all still fab

Love our Ektorps. Have a 2 seater from freegle and a 3 seater for £20 from eBay. Bought plain white cotton covers and dyed them. No idea how old they are, but very comfy and way under £1000.

EyeDrops · 20/04/2019 08:27

Ours is 2 years old but looks great still, and when I wash the covers looks practically new again. It's a pale colour and we have a 3 year old so it's doing well!!

DoubtOfTheOrdinary · 20/04/2019 15:04

We bought a second hand ektorp about 3 years ago and it's still going strong - don't know how long the previous owners had it. I think we paid about £50 for it. White washable covers, so if they get stained we just bleach them - the covers are still pristine.

Rach000 · 20/04/2019 20:37

We had an Ikea sofa in our first home. It lasted well. Was quite firm as that was the style but didn't dip etc. The covers did look a bit gruby after a few years but they were light cream. But they could be taken off and dry cleaned or replaced if needed i guess. So liked it, only reason we got rid was because we moved and it was too big.

DivisionBelles · 20/04/2019 20:53

We have an Ikea Ektorp corner chaise in grey, cost about £600 and a couple of Ektorp armchairs bought on EBay for less than £100. I bought new covers for the chairs to match the sofa. Had them a year, and they still look as good as new.

Putting flat pack sofas together was interesting and DH had our usual flat pack fall out. I'd buy Ikea sofas again in a heartbeat.

I’m currently sitting on my five year old ikea sofa that was under £500 and it looks like new.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/04/2019 21:05

Our Ektorps are nearly 9years old. They have moved country twice, been in storage for two years, moved twice within the UK. They have survived our kids from newborn to 8years old. They have been slept on, had stuff spilt on them, survived ill people. I think they may be indestructible.

Darkbaptism · 20/04/2019 21:08

My 2 Ektorp sofas are 5 years old and they are still really comfortable . I changed the covers recently because I was so sick of the red, it’s great to be able to refresh a room so cheaply.

NoBaggyPants · 20/04/2019 21:11

I had a Stockholm for ten years and replaced it last year with a John Lewis one. The Stockholm was still going strong, wonderful for sitting and sleeping. The JL one has no support and the cushions have lost their shape.

I miss my Stockholm! Keep looking at them on ebay in case the people that had mine list it!

Roomba · 20/04/2019 21:11

Still using the leather IKEA sofa (can't remember the name sorry) I bought in 2009. Looks pretty much as good as new, just as comfy, no sagging or anything at all. The more expensive one I also had from elsewhere is in a shocking state in comparison.

tokirara · 20/04/2019 21:12

Our IKEA klippan going strong as well after 10 years, two house moves and a toddler!

Latenightreader · 20/04/2019 21:15

My ektorp three seater is almost nine years old and still really comfortable. I had new covers last year but that was to change the colour rather than because the old ones were tatty.

Justanothernamechange2 · 20/04/2019 21:16

We have the tidafors and love them! Theyre well used and even been slept on a fair bit with no issues.

foxessocks · 20/04/2019 21:18

We got a sofa and armchair from house of Fraser about 18 months ago for about £1000 - they looked lovely for about a week Angry long story short they are covered in water marks. We don't really know why and house of Fraser didn't want to help.

Anyway, we have decided they are making as cross just being here so we are going to get an Ikea sofa and armchair (washable covers!) and be done with our old ones. So glad to hear people have good things to say as I'm understandably anxious about buying new sofas now!

wonkylegs · 20/04/2019 21:22

We've got an IKEA Sofa in the playroom
It gets jumped on, climbed on and bashed by 2 boys. It's been sicked on, had drinks spilled on it and the covers washed well with a bit of stain remover, in the washing machine.

It's 6yrs old this summer and is still in fab nick. It was well worth the money.

Not as comfy as my V.v. Expensive multiyork one but slightly better than my John Lewis one.

IdaDown · 20/04/2019 21:24

I’ve got a corner Karlstad (discontinued). 11years and still going strong. Washable covers.

There’s loads of companies now that offer new covers and legs for current and old models.

notso · 20/04/2019 21:36

We're just replacing ours after 11 years. One has a saggy seat but the other is in good condition. If it wasn't for the fact we've moved and need something bigger I'd only be replacing one.

countrygirl99 · 20/04/2019 21:41

We bought a sofa bed in 2001. Still going strong and regularly used for visitors.

ChristmasFluff · 20/04/2019 21:42

I hate IKEA with a passion, but it's sofa that we bought as a cheap option (because we assumed it would die of cats anyway) lasted WAAAAY longer than the one I have now, that is existing only under a barrage of throws and quilts

EskiVodkaCranberry · 20/04/2019 21:43

I hate ours! We're moving and it is not coming with us! Ours is a grey corner sofa bed thing, it's uncomfortable, nobody ever sits on the long bit as it's like a park bench. It's about five years old and I can't remember it's name. Covers aren't removable which didn't help. Honestly I've never hated a piece of furniture more!Blush

reallybadidea · 20/04/2019 21:44

Going to go against the grain and say that the cushions on ours were sagging within 18 months. The guarantee isn't worth the paper it's written on because they just say it's 'normal wear and tear'. I won't be buying another.

KatharinaRosalie · 20/04/2019 21:45

My Grönlid is fabulous. The covers have been washed and tumble dried numerous times due to young DC spilling things and drawing on it, and sofa looks like new.

StrawberrySquash · 20/04/2019 22:18

I have a Kivik, chaise attached to a two seater. £700 all together. TBH the chaise started to sag withing about a year. The rest of the sofa has been finr though.
Had a Klippan. That I found uncomfortable, but they are v cheap.
