Difficult choice. I like Wooden Heart for its twee cutesiness, and Kentucky Rain and It's Only Love for their drama. But I think my favourite is Always On My Mind. Perfect realisation of what could have saved a relationship, in song. The Pet Shop Boys and Willie Nelson versions just don't cut it for me.

The Las Vegas era was very showbiz but it produced some powerful songs. On the whole, I prefer it to the late fifties/early sixties songs and those from the films. I'll make an exception for Wooden Heart Wink.

Water forgotten about that one, those lyrics Yy the laughing version of are you lonesome tonight.

Giggorata · 18/04/2019 20:15

Jailhouse Rock
Or Hound Dog

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 18/04/2019 20:18

If I Can Dream. Will be played at my funeral.... my favourite.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 18/04/2019 20:19

Oh that version is great isn't it hassled? So funny. I remember hearing a radio dj play it by accident when he was after putting on a serious song and the DJ was all like "erm, well, I don't know where that weird version came from". It was like Elvis pranked him from beyond the grave.

So good to see other fans on here.

M faves change but always go back to:

Suspicious minds, for the fade out/comeback.
American trilogy for the sheer full on but sincere drama
Hound dog just because
The wonder of you because my mam had the single and we both loved it.

Serin · 18/04/2019 20:21

Burning love.

dottycat123 · 18/04/2019 20:21

It's easy for you, not well known but beautiful. Just to lower the tone I had one of 'those' dreams about Elvis, he was wonderful !!!

Threeminis · 18/04/2019 20:21

So hard..
Always on my mind
Are you lonesome tonight?
In the ghetto
Don't cry daddy - there is a version which his daughter sings alongside a video with him

My granny's favourite was Wooden heart so that has a special place in my wooden heart

And there is a live version on My Way which brings me to tears every time I watch it.
My Way Don't cry Daddy

Flyingaddict · 18/04/2019 20:22

I just can’t help believing.

foxyknoxy30 · 18/04/2019 20:23

Burning love

Threeminis · 18/04/2019 20:24

Totally forgot about the laughing version. It's brilliant

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 18/04/2019 20:25

Question for all you fellow Elvis lovers: a guy wanker I used to know was always of the opinion that liking Elvis was a lower class activity. What do you say to that?

granof3 · 18/04/2019 20:30

Marie’s the name. His latest flame.
My favourite Elvis song ever.

granof3 · 18/04/2019 20:32

A much underrated and not very often heard track.

Mummyoftwo91 · 18/04/2019 20:32

Are you lonesome tonight, my nan loves Elvis so we listened to it a lot growing up, makes me emotional just hearing his voice sometimes

HaventGotAllDay · 18/04/2019 20:35

Can't help falling in love
American trilogy. (I had my dad's old 45 of that- my dad is an obsessive Elvis fan)

He (Elvis, not my daddy!) was also, when young, the most beautiful man on the planet. Officially.

Hassled · 18/04/2019 20:37

Harold - by lower class, does your wanker friend just mean uncool? Elvis has never really been cool. And he's never been highbrow - there was no clever wordplay or hidden meanings. And yes, he was from the poor South - was there snobbery at the time he first emerged? I don't know.

Mrsjayy · 18/04/2019 20:42

Elviwas indeed very beautiful.

IndigoSpritz · 18/04/2019 20:42

Harold. I think Elvis Presley had a broad appeal. His repertoire may have been favoured by chanteueses in working men's clubs, but then so was Sinatra's, IYSWIM.

PissOffPeppa · 18/04/2019 20:49

In the Ghetto
Love Me Tender

PissOffPeppa · 18/04/2019 20:50

He (Elvis, not my daddy!) was also, when young, the most beautiful man on the planet. Officially

Absolutely

HeartShapedBox · 18/04/2019 20:52

"In the ghetto", with "always on my mind" a close second .

Sarahlou63 · 18/04/2019 20:56

Not an actual Elvis song but "Walking in Memphis" takes me back to visiting Gracelands and a two night stay in Memphis. Wonderful place, wonderful city.

CurlsandCurves · 18/04/2019 20:57

The wonder of you was our first dance at our wedding.

On one of our first dates we went to a karaoke and DH sang Burning love. Watching him sing that seriously did things to me 🥰

When i was a child my mum played me the comedic version of re you lonesome tonight. If you’ve not heard it, you need to. Elvis is singing and then for some reason sings the line ‘do you stare at your bald head and wish there were hair’. Rest of the record is him in absolute hysterics. It’s just so funny!

PookieHook · 18/04/2019 20:58

Nick Cave does In the Ghetto far better than Elvis.
Love me tender was the best song Elvis ever did
