Louise/Louisa

My DH and I are expecting a baby girl at the start of May and I was wondering what anonymous opinions are on the aforementioned names.

I like French names but also simple and traditional names and I think Louise/Louisa kind of hit both of them (moreso Louise being a bit more French)

I know I should have posted in baby names but there is more traffic on here. Happy to listen to anyone else suggestions too...I find it quite hard to name this baby.

Léopoldine was the name of Victor Hugo’s daughter.

Fun fact!

I absolutely love both of them.

Louise was a ubiquitous middle name when I was growing up, but IMO it's much too nice to be confined to the middle.

I think many people will think Louise is dated though.

Happyandglorious · 16/04/2019 22:26

Are Elodie and Camille French?
Think so..
2 of my favs

Neolara · 16/04/2019 22:27

I love then both.

helpagirlout1 · 16/04/2019 22:27

@DramaAlpaca

I always think Louise is a name that doesn’t date...plus I love the name Lou. I do agree with you that other might think it’s a bit old fashioned.

sharonwilkinson1965 · 16/04/2019 22:27

Napoleon

helpagirlout1 · 16/04/2019 22:28

Napoleonelle...since it’s a girl @Sharonwilkinson1965

Refilona · 16/04/2019 22:29

Eloise is nicer imho

phoenixrosehere · 16/04/2019 22:29

Love Louisa

Not a fan of Jennifer though.. way too common.

Hungrymamabear · 16/04/2019 22:31

French women I've known have been Rochelle, Raquel, Emmanuella, Marie, Dolly, Emmeline, Genevieve, Matilde, Rebecca, Lucille, Georgia

BloodsportForAll · 16/04/2019 22:31

Louise isn't the sort of name which dates. Neither is Louisa. I'm a Louise. I know lots of Lou's, I hated my name as a teen but that was nothing to do with the actual name itself, whatever name I had I would have felt the same about. Eloise is nice, I've a friend with that name. I know a Luise, a Luize, and the only thing I dislike about Louise is it being double barrelled with things. Thank god Louise doesn't end with something which 'May' can be tagged onto the end of.

What about Lulu?

BloodsportForAll · 16/04/2019 22:32

oh and congrats (I do this a lot, missing the obvious) x

bridgetreilly · 16/04/2019 22:33

Baby names gets plenty of traffic, btw.

I prefer Louisa to Louise. I would not go for something more distinctively French unless you actually are French.

DavetheCat2001 · 16/04/2019 22:35

Louise is a beautiful name.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/04/2019 22:36

I think of Louise is a bit 80s for my liking. Not offensive though.

PercyGherkin · 16/04/2019 22:37

Manon - I love it and wished we had used it but with no connection to France it seemed un peu prétentieux...

Sewrainbow · 16/04/2019 22:37

In would have had either if I'd had girls I think my mum wanted it for my th when he was born 40 years ago too

bridgetreilly · 16/04/2019 22:38

phoenixrosehere

Lots more baby Louisas than Jennifers at the moment.

GinZing · 16/04/2019 22:39

I was also going to say Eloise.

Also
Clementine
Nicole

sharonwilkinson1965 · 16/04/2019 22:44

Nah cos it's gender neutral init

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 16/04/2019 22:48

Louisa is lovely. Eloise as PP have mentioned is a nice alternative.

Mytupenceworth · 16/04/2019 22:50

I love the name Louise, it's my daughter's name! I hadn't even considered it when pregnant but it was so right for her.

To me it's a strong name, completely timeless.
