Louise/Louisa

My DH and I are expecting a baby girl at the start of May and I was wondering what anonymous opinions are on the aforementioned names.

I like French names but also simple and traditional names and I think Louise/Louisa kind of hit both of them (moreso Louise being a bit more French)

I know I should have posted in baby names but there is more traffic on here. Happy to listen to anyone else suggestions too...I find it quite hard to name this baby.

Really don’t like Louise. To me it’s sounds like a whingey name. I put it in the same category as Wayne, Dwayne, Laura, etc. Lou is okay. I much prefer other suggestions like Clara, Clemi, Natalie, Nicole,

Really bridgetreilly?

First I’ve heard. I rarely see Luisa floating around or seen it here and I worked for an international exam institute based in the U.K. Probably depends on country and region. I haven’t seen the name at my son’s nurseries either. Maybe it’s becoming popular now. Never met a Louisa/Luisa, but see Louise and Jennifer a lot. Jennifer was quite popular in the 90’s in North America and early 00s. Not sure of its popularity here in the U.K. though.

I like Clara, Clemi, Elodie, Eloise, Lois, whilst Louise is a nice enough name it's a bit boring, there are lots of Louise's in their 40's now

IncrediblySadToo · 17/04/2019 11:04

Louise isn't the sort of name which dates

Oh yes it does! 🤣 Right along there with Sarah, Jennifer and Mandy!

Louisa is nice
Eloise is nice
I loved Isabella when having my DD
And Nicole

Hobbesmanc · 17/04/2019 11:12

Hmmm Louise is a bit my generation (forties) and I always think of Lou Beale when it's shortened. I like the spelling Luisa- Luisa Bradshaw White played my favourite character on this life (after Anna of course). What about Lucia which sounds very classy and European.

Other lovely french sounding names would be Clemence, Cecile, Fleur.

I'm another 80s baby with the middle name Louise. A close relative also had it so I've passed it on to baby DD as her middle name.

I LOVE Louisa and had a twinge of envy I didn't think of it for DD's first name.

HBStowe · 17/04/2019 11:39

Both very pretty!

NoSauce · 17/04/2019 11:43

To me Louise was the middle name filler of the 70’s and 80’s much like Rose, Grace and May is today. It’s ok though.

Piffle11 · 17/04/2019 11:44

I've known women with French heritage who are called Elyse, Solene, Collette, and Delphine, all nice. I prefer Louisa to Louise. I too am a child of the 80s and know a lot of Louises, although I guess as they will all be late 40s/early 50s now, you will be ok!

blackteasplease · 17/04/2019 12:24

French woman I've known are Amelie, Aurore, Clemence, Juliette, Miriam, Camille, Elizabeth, Genevieve, Pascale (unisex I think). Can't think of any more!

daisypond · 17/04/2019 12:30

I quite like Louise but I prefer Louisa by quite a bit. Eloise is too fussy and fancy.

JumpingFrogs · 17/04/2019 12:50

I have a teenage Louisa. I love it, and she's very happy with it. We sometimes call her Lulu as a pet name but her friends all call her Louisa. Haven't met many others over the years.
