....As microwaves are made of metal inside why can't you put metal things inside them when you are cooking something?

and if you have a silly question please ask it to make me feel less of a fool! Grin

The visions and sounds before sleep are called hypnagogia. I get them when I'm stressed.

IncrediblySadToo · 17/04/2019 17:38

Wow - who knew?! Apparently I have ‘Exploding Head Syndrome’. I had just assumed no one else had heard the noise or hadn’t registered it. I do it fairly frequently...so it’s interesting to know it’s ‘a thing’

Hypnojerk frequently.

Eye/eyebrow twitches -when I’m very tired

I’m a photic sneezer too.

No meds Claw.

brizzlemint · 17/04/2019 17:52

No meds here either. Stress, yes, meds - no.
Thanks for the dental explanation, fascinating.

Thanks for giving the name for these hallucinations catburglar.

I googled hynagogia, interesting. I was quite a nervous child and was bullied at school so I imagine, in my case, it was stress related too.

Claw01 · 18/04/2019 13:01

That’s interesting too, my son suffers with anxiety and was being bullied at school. He was really stressed at the time, hence the sleeping meds. Maybe it wasn’t the meds, but stress.

pintsizedblondie · 18/04/2019 13:16

Put butter in boiling water to stop it boiling over. I got told that tip by a friend's now ex bf who was a chef and it 100% works.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 18/04/2019 13:24

I have a thing that's odd; I can always smell when someone is unwell. It started when the DC were small and I could smell whenever they were about to get tonsillitis or ear infections and over the years it's stretched out and I can smell other people's illness, too, often before they know they're unwell. My best friend gets a really different smell around her like an aura when she's about to have a migraine. A very close friend had a serious illness several years ago and in the days and weeks leading up to it being discovered she'd had a scent about her that I'd mentioned to her; she was entirely baffled when her illness was found. I only tell people I know well, though, because I assume it would freak them out.

DH says it's an evil gift to have because I'm like a harbinger of doom, but I have no idea how it works.

brizzlemint · 18/04/2019 13:24

I hope your son is having a better time at school now Claw

Putting a bit of oil in pasta to stop it sticking together doesn't seem to stop it boiling over so I wonder what it is about the butter that works?

OP posts:
Claw01 · 18/04/2019 13:28

He is, thank you brizzle this was years ago.

Yes how does butter stop it?

MsChicken · 18/04/2019 20:26

Fudgebrownie - that's amazing. I remember reading something about a woman who could smell Parkinson's disease accurately but I think it was just the one condition.

MillieMoodle · 20/04/2019 20:11

It's taken me ages to come back to this thread but @mrsmorton thank you for your explanation about dental records. It's fascinating! So how do they find out who your dentist is? What if you've never been to the dentist?

@pigsDOfly YES! I had this as a child but I haven't had it for years and years. I was quite a nervous child too so maybe some sort of anxiety.

Claw01 · 20/04/2019 23:18

Millie I would assume, dental records are only used, if a body cannot be identified visually. So kind of they think they know who it is, it just needs confirming? Ask relatives who dentist is?

If you had never been to a dentist, this could be quite identifiable, as most people have?

My really silly question is, can I use my Visa card in Athens? (I have only been abroad once before, apologises!)

HoppityChicken · 20/04/2019 23:20

Yes you can! There may be transaction charges however.

Claw01 · 20/04/2019 23:54

Thank you Grin

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 21/04/2019 08:57

claw you can, at cash points and shops that have card payments set up, but they will charge quite a bit.

Claw01 · 21/04/2019 11:55

Thank you, I will make sure I take cash!

pigsDOfly · 21/04/2019 13:12

Interested to know I'm not the only one MillieMoodle.

My mother also had it as a child - don't know anyone else who had though, although I must admit haven't asked many people - and I imagine she was also a bit of a nervous child, so yes, I suspect it is anxiety related.

brizzlemint · 21/04/2019 13:14

I used my debit card in a cash machine on Mykonos without having charges.

How do you pronounce 'banal' ? bane-l or ban-al?

OP posts:
TinselAndKnickers · 21/04/2019 22:48

Logic says ban-AL but also bayne-all Sad depends how whoever I'm with says it. Machu pichu like scone- SCON.

MAYBE bayne - all.
