£160k in 2015, 3 bed new build terrace, well it was built 5 years before we bought it but still would call it a new build.

We saved up to put a 10% deposit down as we didnt want to get involved in help to buy loans.

In 1975 we bought our first home, a three bedroom detached house for £9,000. We had to sell everything of value we had for the deposit. We lived with deck chairs and no carpet in the living room for a year. We were aged 23/25.

2 years ago 3 bed semi detached with garage and large garden £117000. We got an inheritance from dh great aunt which paid for the deposit and the house was owned by dh dad so we got it for less than it was worth. We were very very lucky and extremely grateful

1971, £3250, Keighley Yorkshire, OH wouldn't pay an extra £250 for central heating though!

newtb · 05/04/2020 17:50

Forgot house price inflation was massive. 2 or 3 years earlier, our ndn bought their 30s semi for £3000. Yes, prices trebled in 3 years.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/04/2020 17:50

2 bed maisonette with garden in Wembley, £48,000 in 1987. Now selling for £340k.

I moved in with no bed, fridge or washing machine. Slept on the floor for the first 3 months.kept milk on outside windowsill (winter).
I loved it - it was all mine. I was 24. Smile

39,500 brand new 3 bed semi in Lincoln in 1995

BlowOnMySackbutt · 05/04/2020 18:36

£32k, 5bed, 3 reception rooms, huge Victorian villa in Plymouth. 1986. It was before they expanded the airport so things were cheaper then. It remains my favourite house.

lynzpynz · 05/04/2020 18:48

70k in falkirk, 2006 and I saved up 10% deposit despite at the time the bank trying to throw a 125% mortgage at me with no deposit?! On 15k wage at the time and running a car. Hard at the time, lived on beans and toast but a worthwhile investment now as stood me in good stead for subsequent purchases. Now on 3rd home, joint purchase with hubby 3 bed semi which was 205k.

Randomness12 · 05/04/2020 18:52

£90,000 in 2009 for a two bedroom flat with private garden in Kent. £5k deposit shared between me and my boyfriend (now husband) We got it right in the midst of the recession, had 4 mortgage offers withdrawn and it took just over a year from offer to keys but it was worth it - we’d also initially offered £120k but the value nosedived so we benefitted there.
