Current house was £90K back in 1995. We've since extended it quite a bit and it's now worth upwards of £480K

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 09:18

£140k in 2005 in south east market town
It was a 1 bed flat
I think I earned around £15k a year at the time and my then boyfriend earned a bit more
We were 20 and we took out a 97% mortgage

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 09:19

We sold it 5 years later for £185

Changedmyname84 · 04/04/2020 09:19

240k in 2009. I was 28 so was hubby.
Deposit was £60k. £15k from parents the rest astonishingly I saved I also paid the stamp duty and conveyancing fees.

I also put £20k towards our wedding that year!

I worked in sales I think in 2009 I was on £70k - I should have stuck with it!

PieceOfMaria · 04/04/2020 09:23

34k in 1984. It was a brand new 1 bed flat about 30 miles from London.

I’ve just looked on Rightmove and they are around 175 to 200k now, in the same street.

PieceOfMaria · 04/04/2020 09:24

We afforded it with a 100% mortgage, the same as everyone in those days.

Tunnocks34 · 04/04/2020 09:27

2018 - 3 Bed detached in Manchester. House was on the market for £220k but the owners wanted a very quick sale. We were really cheeky and offered £185k which surprisingly they accepted. Parents gave us £5,000 towards deposit and we paid £4,500 ourselves for 5%

£450,000 4 bed in 2015.

Busybusybust · 04/04/2020 09:31

3 bed terraced house in Teddington, 1976, £14,500. Sold 3.5 years later for £44k. Now worth almost £1m! Crazy.

SimonJT · 04/04/2020 09:32

£750k 2019 two bed flat in North London

The other similar sized flats in the building are quite a bit more expensive, this one had been completely trashed so that hugely reduced the price. There is no way I could have afforded to buy it if it had been decent inside. The landlord who owned it paid £150k in 1999.

nikosmum2010 · 04/04/2020 09:36

100% mortgage on 3 bed house bought for £208k in 2007. Now worth £400k.

NaToth · 04/04/2020 09:36

Three bed terrace for £13,500 in 1980. I worked seven days a week for a year to save the deposit.

Sleepyquest · 04/04/2020 09:38

£238k in 2017. It hasn't increased in value at all

Methyl · 04/04/2020 09:38

$900K Australian dollars: two bed inner city townhouse in Melbourne. $200k deposit of savings and sold shares.

HennyPenny4 · 04/04/2020 09:40

33,000 pounds in 1983- sold it for 34,000 6 years later when we moved.

mogtheexcellent · 04/04/2020 09:49

202k in 2010. Ex council 3 bed semi in village cul de sac. Built in the 50s we have a utility room and huge garden plus the box room is twice the size of my friends new build box room. It was valued at 340k last month. We paid 50k deposit 150k was mortgage with repayment at 920pcm. Inheritance has meant we now only owe 46k and pay 320pcm. Not too bad but really want to move to neighbouring village where the same house would be at least 80k more. We could just afford it but not the stamp duty and fees on top. Annoying.

crispysausagerolls · 04/04/2020 09:55

1.25m 2019 mortgage with large deposit from savings

Mummyshark2018 · 04/04/2020 10:31

£246k in 2007- south east expensive city. I was 24, dh was 30. My first house, his 3rd. Still here, though we've recently extended.

Penners99 · 04/04/2020 10:39

£60k. 3 bed detached farmhouse with huge garden 1992. Sold in 2019 for £375k.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 04/04/2020 10:40

1996 3 bed semi £59995. A 30 min commute from London.

We took out a 90% mortgage having saved up for the deposit for about 18 months. We were earning about £14k a year each back then and had both still been living with our parents. I was 26 when we completed the purchase.

It wasn't the struggle it would be for a young couple starting out now.

geojojo · 04/04/2020 10:40

2013, £205k, 2 bed terrace

AJTracey · 04/04/2020 10:42

Clifton OP? Very nice!
250k on the south coast 2010

Changedname78 · 04/04/2020 10:42

@PieceOfMaria 100% mortgages are great, if you can get them on your wage...
average wage round here approx £25000.
Average house price approx £300000.
Most lenders only offer 4 x salary. Impossible

Macarena1990 · 04/04/2020 10:43
