AIBU?

To ask for a partial refund on baby clothes bundle

Hello,

So I bought a bundle of clothes on ebay listed 'Newborn 0-1 month'. It was a bundle of 13 and they have just arrived and 5 of the 13 are 'Tiny baby'. I have already have a tonne of donated tiny baby stuff and there is no mention in the listing that the bundle included 'Tiny baby'. I am new to this whole Mum thing, but in my mind Tiny baby was different to Newborn. If I kne almost half would be tiny baby I wouldn't have bought it.
Would you request a partial refund, or should I just let it go?

I think you are better off buying multipacks of babygros new than trawling through bundles. You can get them very cheap new and theyll be the right size.

@englishdictionary I think there is a typo in your original post - "retiring" instead of returning?

I couldn't resisit opening the thread as the preview says
"AIBU to ask for a partial refund on baby....."
How could I resist?

We had to get Amazon next day service as DC came early and rather than the 7lbs we expected he was just over 5lbs. Was in a borrowed outfit till they arrived. Donated them to the baby unit to help out anyone in a similar position so likely they will sell well if you want to.

Return the whole bundle OP. Or just take it in the chin and sell the tiny baby stuff on or donate it to someone who has had to suffer a prem or underweight baby.

I know it feels like it right now, as it's one of the few things you can control about pregnancy and newborns (the planning) but just take a step back and recognise it's not a big deal.

Oh and Tescos own brand baby grows and vests are the best out there for the money. The quality of their vests is exceptional for the cost. We've washed and stored them all should we ever have baby #2.

@englishdictionary - I didn't understand the question about partially retiring the clothes. I meant to say question, not point in my post - apologies. I was wondering about asking for the partial refund for the clothes that I would not use (the 'tiny baby' baby grows), which I could then send back.

I had to buy tiny baby for my 4lb4 baby. Newborn drowned her.

I’d just ask for a refund as the items are not as described. They will then have to cover your return postage.

'Tiny baby' usually means premature. My Gdd has baby dolls - normal sort of doll size - that came in a bundle with 'tiny baby' clothes that fit them perfectly.
So no, I don't think you're B at all U.

@Pocamiseria Grin that is hilarious! I feel my post is even more boring now!

And yes I see the typo now - that is what threw me!

I wouldn't. The way is see it is tiny baby is size up to 1 month which technically comes under 0-3

Just put it in the charity pile.

My totally average sized baby (7lb 5oz) needed tiny baby at first! Not prem, just petite.

I think it's fine to contact the seller and say some of the clothes in the bundle aren't as advertised since they're the wrong size, and could you return them in return for a partial refund. Can't predict what their response will be and they may ask you to return the full bundle but worth asking. Or as pps have suggested you could sell on the clothes you don't need. For me it would depend on what % of the bundle is unsuitable and how hard up you are for money - if only a small amount of items are tiny I'd just donate/sell on rather than going through the hassle.

Typically, tiny baby is suitable for babies up to 5lbs, so not at all the same as new born, which can be anything up to 7lb to 9lb, there is a huge difference. The description was misleading, of course you wouldn't have bought them if you knew the true size so I would mention it to the seller if you want something back for them.

Tiny baby is smaller than newborn .. my prem baby wore tiny baby when he was born and was 3lb odd .. not much use of you have a 8/9 lb baby . I agree with you .

My 8lb baby needed tiny baby clothes!

Yeah it's not as described. Tiny baby is well just that for tiny babies. Usually they are for babies about 6lbs and newborn stuff I'd say is more like 8lbs so can be big difference.

Ask to return them all or if they would prefer to offer a partial refund you would consider that.

They've already paid say £3 postage and it will cost them the same for you to return them as eBay will make them pay. So if you return them it will cost the seller £6. I'd ask for £5/£6 refund. You paid £14, 5 are no good to you it works out about £1.08 per item.

Op when are you due? How big is baby measuring? I'd prob hold on to them for now and then either pass or sell them on, or donate them to your hospital if you have a NICU

I get your point about paying 1/3 over what you would have per outfit but the £4 refund will be swallowed up in postage costs

I would just follow the official e mail rules and advice on this one 1) e mail the seller and explain why you are not happy with the item...try to resolve it with her before putting in an official return request. 2) if that does not work put in a formal return request explaining why item was not as described. The buyer then has to accept your request or challenge it. I doubt they would challenge it as they don’t have a case to really....Then they can make you an offer of what to do. But if they accept the return then they also have to pay the postage....it’s all in the e bay rules. You should be able to get it sorted quickly. I would just say though....both my babies were under 7lbs and I had nowhere near enough tiny baby stuff in...ended up buying loads more. So if you think you might have a wee one then it still might be worth keeping it and relisting if you don’t use

My baby was 7 pounds 9 and DH and I are both tall, I had to go and buy tiny baby things, he's short... Also tiny baby in some brands (next) is the same as newborn or up to one month in others

I would say that tiny baby could well for into the newborn category so wouldn't bother, especially as it's not a huge amount unless you're returning the lot and paying £4(ish) postage so it's probably not worth it.

For what it's worth mine were 6lbs 15oz and 7lbs 2oz at 40/41 weeks and they both wore tiny baby for the first month so they're not just for prem/tiny babies.

Reastie · 15/04/2019 17:48

Worth n email to the seller to see what they suggest. I agree they could say it would be for a newborn and refuse to do anything, but equally tiny baby is a distinct and different size from newborn size and definitively a lot smaller. I’d be annoyed if I were you too. See what they say and if they refuse chalk it up to experience.

I had something similar. I'd never bought second hand clothes before. Saw a bundle on Facebook advertised as 18-24. Over half was 12-18. I couldn't be bothered to say anything.

I've bought dd clothes for her baby in sizes tiny baby, newborn and 0 to 3 months and tbh sizing seems to depend on the store rather than the size stated. So today I bought her a couple of babygros from Boots sized 0 to 3 months and they are tiny in comparison to the early baby ones I bought from M&S. Apparently M&S tiny baby is 6.5 pounds and newborn is 7lbs so very little difference in size. I think you could ask the seller but I would imagine that she would ask you to return rather than refund.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/04/2019 17:55

I’d expect the seller to want the whole bundle back and cancel the entire transaction rather than split them. So it depends whether you think the items you want to keep are worth £14.

Thunderspuds · 15/04/2019 17:58

Does the seller even do returns? It'll say in the listing, but some private sellers don't. Often you have to pay the return postage so in my experience it's often not been worth it when I've returned stuff.

I would email the seller, explain the problem and see what they suggest.
