not sure about liverpool & job interview

So I have another job interview - no.4 - and it's in liverpool, but the flights have just doubled - I'm an idiot I duuno why I didnt just buy them last week when I found out. Thing is, should I still go. I have to pay for them myself. It will cost about 270 euro to go and come back, including parking & a taxi. The thing is, I'm not even sure about liverpool. Would you move there. I have a teen daughter into drama/musical theatre, and a budding footballer 10 year old ds. WWYD. Would you go.

I live here!

Football and drama/musical theatre are two things you can be guaranteed to find here. It’s a great city, loads going on, and a good hub for getting to other areas.

Where is your interview?

NoBaggyPants · 15/04/2019 10:38

Liverpool is great, there's lots to do for adults and teens and transport links are good too.

Where are you coming from, have you looked at flying to Manchester instead?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 15/04/2019 10:39

I mean in the city rather than company!

ForalltheSaints · 15/04/2019 10:41

There are plenty of drama opportunities in Liverpool for children and young people.

Ceci03 · 15/04/2019 10:41

thanks! I've never been there and dont know anything about it except ds supports LFC lol. Just checked and tehre's a flight to manchester that lands at 7.35am. that gives me 2 hours to get to liverpool city centre. am I cutting it too fine.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 15/04/2019 10:43

no! the airport is about 15 minutes outside the city centre!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 15/04/2019 10:46

I wouldn’t go to Manchester. The trains are normally ok but you can’t guarantee it, plus it’ll probably cost you a fair amount. You defo can’t drive it’ll be a nightmare at that time of the morning.

NoBaggyPants · 15/04/2019 10:47

There are buses and trains direct from Man airport to Liverpool, you don't need to go into Manchester, that take around an hour. You'll be fine (assuming the flight is on time, but that's a risk wherever you fly to).

Bigearringsbigsmile · 15/04/2019 10:48

fly to liverpoll!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 15/04/2019 10:49

where are you flyying from and when?

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2019 10:51

You are talking in Euros, are you coming from Ireland? Have you considered an overnight ferry?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 15/04/2019 10:52

I'd totally move to Liverpool. So much to do. Such an interesting city. And the people are genuinely lovely.

Have you looked at flights the day before and staying in a Premier Inn overnight?

NoBaggyPants · 15/04/2019 10:52

The trains are fine on that route, and so frequent that if you miss one you just get on the next.

It's £23 for an anytime return.

How much is the air fare to Man?

Ceci03 · 15/04/2019 10:57

that would save me a good bit. it's only 22 for a flight to manchester and 134 for a flight to liverpool... going back from liverpool is not too bad though so I might fly back from there. I did check the boat but I'm a terrible traveller. could see about premier inn but the flight the night before is just as dear. good to know that it will be a great place to move though - makes me think it's worth it!

Waffles80 · 15/04/2019 10:57

There are frequent trains that early to the city centre. Could the place where you’re interviewing push it back by an hour or so?

LittleRedMushroom · 15/04/2019 11:24

You will be cutting it fine with 2 hours - let's say you land on time, it will take you about half an hour to get out of the airport, 10- 15 minutes to walk to the station and wait for the next train, 20 minutes into Manchester, about an hour to get into Liverpool and then however long to your interview.
There are direct trains from the airport but they only run hourly and still take about and hour and 15 minutes to an hour and half to get there.
I don't think 2 hours is long enough.
Try booking from an incognito browser - it could be cheaper as there won't be cookies telling them you've already searched which means they put the price up.

Liverpool is a wonderful city. I’m a Manc, lived in Leeds for many years and now I work in Liverpool and live on the Wirral. I love Yorkshire and will retire there, but Liverpool is a great friendly place to live and bring up a family.

You can get here from Manchester Airport in 2 hours on the train, but it will be rammed at that time of the day, so be prepared to stand.

If you had applied for a job at our place (you haven’t - we have no vacancies at the moment) and you rang to explain the plane situation I would definitely swap the times around to be sure you could attend.

Clear your cookies and browsing history and look again

QueenEhlana · 15/04/2019 12:11

Agree with @BarrenFieldofFucks - clear your cookies and search again. It look from another device. This is a well know tactic of the airline companies and travel agents, putting the price up every time you go on to check.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 15/04/2019 12:17

Liverpool is magnificent and your children would find plenty to nurture their separate interests.

Your suggested itinerary is certainly not impossible but, honestly, if you can travel the day before it would make your interview day far more relaxed.

Bowchicawowow · 15/04/2019 12:20

If your dc are into drama and football you couldn’t pick a better city to live in. It is an amazing place to live in.

mememe2019 · 15/04/2019 12:39

Sounds like you are coming from Ireland. I really wouldn't risk the Manchester flight as it will take time to exit the airport etc and trains can be unreliable. Is there any way you could come the night before or on the night ferry? Check out sailrail it is really cheap - you could you bring the kids as walk on ferry passengers and catch the train. They would love Liverpool. It is a fantastic city. You could drop them off in Albert Dock and they will be spoiled for choice of things to do.

However, I would say I moved to the UK from Ireland 20 years ago and with Brexit etc I wouldn't dream of doing it again. My children were born here and are too settled here now to uproot them but I would not do it now. I am assuming its not for a University job as they would pay expenses but if it is - pay particular attention to quite how strapped the Universities and Further Education colleges are now and it is only going to get worse.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/04/2019 12:40

I love Liverpool and would move in a heartbeat if it wasn't for work. Spending most of this week there and I can't wait!

Toddlerteaplease · 15/04/2019 12:41

Some lovely B&B's in Hale Village close to the airport.

mememe2019 · 15/04/2019 12:43
