I think I was a bit of a strange child although maybe I’m not the only one.

One of my favourite things to do aged about 5/6 was to steal a bar of soap and some scissors, find a corner to hide in and shave wafer thin slices of soap off until there was nothing but a big pile of soap flakes. I got into trouble every time but it didn’t stop me.

Our family car had two rear facing seats at the back and if I was sitting there I used sit dead still and make blank-faced unblinking eye contact with the people behind for as long as possible. I think I managed it for about an hour once.

Once aged about 10 I set out to drink as much water as possible just to see how much I could drink. I managed a few litres (I’m aware now that I could have killed myself)

I brought a large dehydrated dead fish I’d found on the beach to show and tell at school when I was 7. Unfortunately it was the last day before the summer holidays and I accidentally left it behind. I think they had to get someone to come in in the end to deal with the terrible smell.

When I was 12 I coloured my entire face in with bright pink lipstick. It took about two days to get rid of completely.

Was anyone else a little weirdo? I think I’m pretty normal now btw!

Play with my shadow because it was my only friend.

diamondofdoom · 15/04/2019 18:49

I used to suck the flannel, my sleeves, my collar and my hair Confused

Ask my younger sister to 'play fight' when all I did was slap the crap outta her (we hated each other back then!)

Melted sweetie wrappers onto the lightbulb of my bedside lamp

'Trap' ants by making a triangle with both hands until they climbed on me and iI'd play with them

Unzip my coat, hold onto the bottom corners and flip them up over my head and jump when it was windy to see if I could fly Hmm

I would go out and play allllll day! In the woods, the 'muddy bit' (a bit near my house which was muddy), the park, the rugby club. I miss those days.

diamondofdoom · 15/04/2019 18:59

Also as a preteen we used to go 'pier plunging' in the summer of the tide was high enough - just jump off the pier into the sea. We'd also wait for a boat to go out and jump straight after as the 'water was warmer' Confused I'm surprised no one got cut on any propellers as we would jump immediately at it!

Also the first time I jumped I got such a shock at the cold water that I couldn't breathe, dragged myself up onto the step instead of swimming round to walk up and cut my knee open on the shells stuck to the wall. That was a sore walk home with my knee pouting blood, sick tied round it and salty water stinging it!

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 15/04/2019 19:19

Wehn I was about 6, my brother who was 10 would give me and my sister (8) permission to swear. We'd all stand at the farthest end of the garden and swear solidly for a few minutes until my brother shouted STOP! We wouldn't swear at any other time, and the worst thing we heard our parents say was 'bugger' or 'sod', but we really used to go for it!

IRememberSoIDo · 15/04/2019 19:20

I was telling my mum about this thread and she reminded me that I went through a phase of wanting to pee like a dog and would cock my leg and pretend to when we were out places. I did it one time standing behind a doctors receptionist as she was trying to book appointments for us and my mother was almost on the floor trying to keep a straight face whilst the unknowing receptionist cheerfully chatted whilst doing her bookings for her.

greenpop21 · 15/04/2019 19:27

I used to ask my mum to put my dinner in a bowl on the floor so I could eat it like a dog!!! Bless her, she let me for 3 days until I got fed up with it.

ItsHardToExplain · 15/04/2019 19:33

My brother and I had seen a programme about naughty kids that were pretty much neglected I think it was called Troublemakers?
We pretended we were friends of the main characters and made up names and backstories.
That wouldn’t be so bad but we used to tell everyone I remember asking my neighbour for food because my mum didn’t feed me and my dad was dead and that I had just done a burglary. My brother used to walk around with his fists out and an angry face ready for a fight. He scratched his own face to make it look like he’d had a few scraps already. We are only about 9/10 maybe.
In reality we had wonderful parents and a great childhood.
Shock

gggrrrargh · 15/04/2019 20:32

I would talk to my cuddly toys on a regular basis - ‘you can trust me, I promise I won’t tell anyone you are alive, please trust me, I know you can move’.

Then I would pretend to leave the room and dive back in to see if I couldn’t catch them that way. Never did.

JHaniver · 15/04/2019 20:41

Some of these have really tickled me, and reminded me of things I’d completely forgotten about. Children are fantastically weird.

Water biscuit spread reminded me of when I used to make giant Wotsits. I would suck the end of a Wotsit until it was soggy, get another one and do the same and then squash them together, then trying to add on as many as I could before eating it. Disgusting!

Rollindowntheroad · 15/04/2019 20:43

@Dimsumlosesum I would have been your friend!

LMAO at the recent posts.

tablelegs · 15/04/2019 21:12

I used to chew my hair.

I made up my own language that only me and my teddies knew.

Smotheroffive · 15/04/2019 21:21

I did the rose thorns to rhino thing too Grin

....and the moulding of slices of bread into cubes..why cubes though specifically Hmm

My DC use to do a lot of things on here too.

The making 'perfume' gathering all my bottles and filling with flowers that went mouldy and stank

Trying the scale the stairs top to bottom without touching the stairs! I would run shouting in distress over and over at the sounds of bodies falling down the stairs!

I made lots of dens over ironing boards and backs of sofas, as did mine, and in wooded areas too.

Used to keep trying to eat a strawberry-shaped frgtanced soap. Repeatedly!! Couldn't get my head around why it didn't taste like strawberry too! I was very young though.

Used to swing off my curtains (repeatedly ripped them out of the wall!)

Make ice creams floats.

Made lots of mud 'food'

My DC seemed to have inherited that one too, they would take my plates and whatever dishes they could steal out unnoticed and use to serve their yummy mud 'food' offerings on.

Making weetabix into patties and forming it into shapes and then slicing it to eat Confused why?

I remember a sibling using a crystal lighter as a hammer and smashing it!

I did the playing horses thing too, making jumps, can't remember if I was horse or rider, more of an all in one type affair.

Had ddogs that I 'trained' to be my team of huskies to race me up and down our close on roller skates!

user1470225104 · 15/04/2019 21:23

These are brilliant Grin

I once cut all the hair off our cat when I was 4.

I told all my friends that I was actually Matilda and they believed me!

I used to keep woodlouse and cut them open to get their "babies out their tummies" Sad

I had a pet money spider who I took with me in a McDonald's happymeal box to the circus and it died, I cried.

I used to put my cat in the doll seat on my bike and ride around with him in the back.

I used to wait until my sister was asleep on the top bunk, stick my feet through the slats and then send her flying into the air by pushing my feet up.

I was a very strange child Blush

kenandbarbie · 15/04/2019 21:26

Cut a hole in the net curtains to look out (why didn't I just open them? Hmm)

kenandbarbie · 15/04/2019 21:27

Oh yeah - wrote my dads name on the table cloth so he'd get in trouble off my mum not me Wink

Smotheroffive · 15/04/2019 21:29

Another flannel sucker here.

One of my DC was convinced they could lift a chair they were sitting on into the air!

I did have fun watching them try!

BikeRunSki · 15/04/2019 21:38

Cut a hole in my sister’s soft toy panda, to “take out its appendix”. When I got in bother about it, I cut up one of my mum’s blouses to make a patch....

mizu · 15/04/2019 21:38

I used to take dry pasta spaghetti and climb to the top of the tree in our garden and suck it ConfusedConfused

My sister once made my mum a necklace out of tampon inserts that she'd found in the bin ConfusedConfusedGrin that only happened one time of course.

Shutuptodd · 15/04/2019 21:39

Eat pva glue.

Put salt in milk and drink it.

Carve pictures into soap.

MissClareRemembers · 15/04/2019 22:00

Made ‘firework displays’ for my Playmobil figures by squirting water out of washing up liquid bottles.

BertieBotts · 15/04/2019 22:14

I remember pushing my feet up in the bunk bed as well. We had various games around this, I can't remember now, one was something to do with a treasure map.

OopsOhNoZHM · 15/04/2019 22:18

@greenpop21 I did the ‘dog bowl dinner’ too 😂 and for sliding down the stairs it was a duvet for me.

I pulled the tail off one of my chipmunks 🐿
It was a complete accident, we used to let them out of their 6ft cage to run around while the cage was cleaned out and I was certain our big German Shepard was going to catch one as he’d jumped the gate. The chipmunks all scrambled and the one I decided to try and protect was the one running up the side of the cage which actually would have been fine if I’d let it 🤦🏼‍♀️🙈 so I grabbed hold of it and it slipped through my fingers but I managed to grab it’s tail, and technically I just held on and it did all the pulling 🙊 but I ended up with the fur and skin in my hand and the bone dropped off a few days later. Think I was 5/6yo.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 15/04/2019 22:18

I used to eat all the bubble bath bubbles..
I also used to make up convoluted imaginary games with made up friends and siblings (usually I would boss them all about / be the teacher).
Another one I still sometimes do is play about with words in my head, making anagrams of the letters, or pronouncing them backwards. Blush

OhMyDarling · 15/04/2019 22:21

I do that too coldtatty... do you do the same with car number plates??

coco2891 · 15/04/2019 22:27

@TigersRoll I used to collect woodlice in match boxes and give them to my mum 😳 then one day a really old frayed one gave birth to hundreds of little ones on my hand and I can't even look at them now 😷
