To ask whether you can sing?

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 01:30

I can sing, but I don't, because I'm shy.
I sang once in public in a pub and apparently everyone was talking about me the next day (I was really proud to hear that). That gives me every sort of stage fright and fear of performance failure that you might imagine, so I haven't sung since.
I sound a bit like this woman when I sing...

So I can 'carry a tune' but I'm never going to set the world on fire!

My dd can sing, but not x-factor level, she's just good at carrying a tune 'I can get by' as she says herself.

Less about me.

I'd love to hear from any singers - I think it's a beautiful talent that you either have or haven't. Anyone who's a shower singer care to share?

@LimaLemur, thank you Smile

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 21:56

Bloody hell! He's brilliant Witchy! I get what you mean when you said that he has an unusual tone. Louis Walsh would be orgasmning if he heard him (sorry Louis). Just listening to the one you've posted, will see if I can see a video of him performing.

I can sing, yes. Nobody can bear to listen to me but I can certainly sing.

YesQueen · 12/04/2019 22:00

Nope. I won't even sing at a funeral/wedding/church type thing, I mouth the words
My gran sang and recorded an album and some singles

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:02

@Silverbangle he was 12 in that video,he has recently turned 13.

@Apoiads - thank you, there are quite a few videos on his music page from the last year. He should have his first EP professionally recorded in the next year or so which is so exciting for him. It's hard trying to fit it all in round school and sport etc but luckily he loves it and doesn't need much sleep Grin

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 22:04

The one question I'd ask Witchy, is does he have sinus/nasal problems? Only reason I ask is that dd has and sometimes she sounds like she has a blocked nose - she's prescribed Beconase, but refuses to take it half the time - but I can hear it in her voice when she hasn't taken it! So she'll be halfway through singing and I'll say 'you haven't taken your Beconase have you?' 'No.' Confused

Maybe a more expert singer might be able to touch on what I'm trying to get across.
He is brilliant though!

Will explore more of his page, so far I've only watched two and those with only a photo of him, but he's a handsome lad aswell! Bet he has all the girls in love with him! Grin

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:06

Apoiads - yes, at that point he did but he is on some new medication which is clearing it and helps massively. I notice it but mostly others don't even when I ask them.

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:07

Grin I think it helps with the girls! Unfortunately they are always older so I need to keep an eye on him lol.

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:09

I think there is a videos section on his page with all of them on.

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 22:11

I always was a sucker for a guy who could sing or play guitar! I'm sure he'll be very good! Looking at the page he's doing some gigs too! Well done little Witchy!

I just love to sing and my DH does too. He sings with a brilliant amateur choir and I play violin in an orchestra. We are expecting our first child later this year and I am looking forward to singing to and with him (once he is here, all being well).

My shower song is “Africa” by Toto.

cuppycakey · 12/04/2019 22:14

Yes I have earned a living as a professional singer.

Stomach ulcers burnt my vocal system so I can't do it now but I still sing better than most people Blush

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 22:16

I think he'll start to give it welly as we say in Ireland with time! You get the impression that there's a lot more power behind his voice than he's letting out!

Yes he's earning money now which is nice, plus all the showcase/charity ones which are fun for him. The paid ones are tough as are around 23/24 songs so quite full on. I hope he continues improving, he's achieved a lot in a year or two so when he is more confident etc then hopefully he'll be even better. More importantly at his age I just want him to enjoy it. It's lovely as he is very modest and blase about it all which means he will continue to work hard.

My mum met my dad when he was 19 playing in a band. He's a drummer and still gigs with my brother.

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 22:18

This is my shower song

It's a Bob Dylan song apparently, though I've never heard him sing it.

I sing it slower than this singer. Must look up Bob Dylan's version.

You are completely right and actually this last month he has started to do this. He just needed someone other than me to tell him and get him to do this and one of the producers he's working with did and it's made such a difference. I am looking forward to his next gig where he will hopefully put it into practice.

AventaRizon · 12/04/2019 22:19

I can't. The most frustrating thing is that I have perfect pitch, so I know I'm singing out of tune - but I can't help it!

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:20

My car song currently is Never Enough from The Greatest Showman, I sound pretty awful hence why it's my car song and not my shower song. Only on the motorway so no one can hear Grin

His new producer sounds excellent! I'll be watching out for him in the charts in 3 years time - I can say - I know that kid! Grin

Witchy... 12 years old! I've had a look through his FB page. Wow! Talented boy. Lovely vocals and plays guitar too. Love it! 😍

WitchyBollox · 12/04/2019 22:27

Grin he can to say 'I owe it all to Apoiads for giving me encouragement via my mum on mumsnet.' He will hopefully have some originals recorded in the next couple of months too which is the next major step for him.

SwayingInTime · 12/04/2019 22:27

I really can't at all. I can neither do or even hear accents very well though so I genuinely think I'd be impossible to teach. My sister and mother and I will all break into song with joy and gay abandon though and my musical husband and blooming chorister daughter find it fascinating. The key changes! The dissonance! They love it Grin. My middle daughter looks exactly like me but has the two things I always craved, beautiful curly hair and the voice of an angel, she's me MK2!

Apoiads · 12/04/2019 22:27

@NottonightJosepheen Lol, you're possibly the only person I've ever found to share my taste in music outside of Ireland (I'm presuming you're Irish). Also love Bob Dylan - he was my driving to work CD about 10 years ago. Maybe we just have great taste haha!
Going to youtube Maura O'Connell as it's not ringing a bell - that's not saying much though as I'm useless with names.
