Sick of Prosecco Cards/quotes

... I know Prosecco is nice but really is it that nice?

On Mother's Day more than half the cards seemed to relate to Prosecco / wine.... clothes have messages about Prosecco on, gifts.... it's just a bit overkill.

Prosecco - overrated - thoughts?

I wonder whether people actually do like it, or just drink it because it's "now"

For me, it's too bitter and dry (like Champagne which I also dislike) I prefer moscato d'asti as it's sweeter and easier to drink.

I'm fed up of all the gin, unicorn and mermaid stuff around too. It's just done to death now.

Musti · 12/04/2019 07:46

Nope I love it and did years before it became popular over here. I drink it more now though because it's more available and cheaper now.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 12/04/2019 07:50

good prosecco is and always has been lovely if you like a not too dryish sparkling white, which I do. the quality of what's forced on you nowadays is shocking though - just sickly fizz.

agree that English sparking is usually high-quality (but very much champagne money, so it should be). for decent, cheapish fizz the cremant du jura at aldi is good.

AlaskanOilBaron · 12/04/2019 07:51

It's so overdone and stupid.

TheoriginalLEM · 12/04/2019 07:57

Prosecco, gin, unicorns and llamas - the height of naff!! I like all of those things but not that much!!

Oh and don't forget the 💩 all over everything.

Fuck off

Mississippilessly · 12/04/2019 08:01

I love prosecco but I find all the merchandise so embarrassing. Particularly as most people who have about it actually have like one glass a year. It's so boring. 'Ooh arent we naughty'.

You never see an actual alcoholic with all this crap.

RestingBitchFaced · 12/04/2019 08:01

Agree! It's so tacky

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 12/04/2019 08:03

I like it well enough but don’t want to plaster my house with tat announcing my vices to all and sundry.

BlueSkiesLies · 12/04/2019 08:05

Cava or a cremant is much nicer for the same price

ethelfleda · 12/04/2019 08:08

YANBU. It’s the same with gin! I don’t get it either OP. I mean, I don’t mind a glass of Prosecco actually - or gin (although I’m more of a red wine drinker!) but all the shite you can buy relating to it drives me mad. Like those signs you can get for your fridge that day ‘warning - May contain prosecco’

Aeroflotgirl · 12/04/2019 08:09

Yes I agree, as if all women like drinking prosecco or Pinot Grigiot. On a night out, I am more up for the food.

NameChangeNugget · 12/04/2019 08:10

There’s obviously a market for it. Who though I have no idea?

I find the stuff to be pretty rank. It’s BTEC champagne

Biancadelrioisback · 12/04/2019 08:11

I like some of that stuff. Doesn't bother me that you don't.

shins · 12/04/2019 08:12

Yes re cava being much nicer. It's a load of bollocks, the idea that modern mums need prosecco to cope with their exhausting stressful lives. When I think of my grandmothers with their tiny houses and large families, staying up til 3am on a Monday to put the handwashed laundry through the mangle - all they had to take the edge off things was strong tea! I'm not a teetotaller but the relentless pushing of alcohol as a treat and reward is really dysfunctional and irresponsible.

AgentCooper · 12/04/2019 08:13

Oh it’s so lame. Good prosecco is a lovely thing, but why the fuck do folk need plaques and cushions and all that other crap?

BlueMerchant · 12/04/2019 08:15

Agree. It's pathetic. As an ex-drinker (as I like to call it- sorry) it really makes me feel ill when I see all the plaques, PJs etc. It gives the wrong message making drinking seem such a fun, vibrant thing to do when for some of us the reality of drink was so different and ruined our lives. Not all of us can stop with a few flirty prosecco's or wait until gin o'clock to have a drink.
I predict the next 'thing' will be rum and the unicorn will be replaced by swans!

ethelfleda · 12/04/2019 08:15

Can anyone recommend a good English sparkling white for me to try please? Red wine seems less appealing now it’s getting warmer.

ItsSomeKindOfWonderful · 12/04/2019 08:47

@ethelfleda I really rate Nyetimber x

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 12/04/2019 09:09

yeah, i'll second Nyetimber

codenameduchess · 12/04/2019 09:10

I had a conversation with a 9 year old who said when she was old enough she wanted to drink lots of wine and Prosecco because it's cool to get drunk.... her parents don't really drink but this shit is everywhere so that's the message kids are getting. It infuriates me.

Why do we need so much shit? Gin, Prosecco, shitty inspirational quotes - it's all crap. Surely as adult human beings there are interest outside of the latest fad alcohol. And freaking unicorns... it was cute for about a week, it's all gone too far

tinnitusqueen · 12/04/2019 09:12

Well don't forget to live love and laugh!Confused

JacquesHammer · 12/04/2019 09:12

About as tedious as the “Why Mummy Drinks” books.

Dull as dishwater

MulderitsmeX · 12/04/2019 09:15

I actually prefer prosecco to champagne (even the really good ones - i know im a heathen!!). But would only ever have 1 glass of either really, give me a really good red any day.

Totally agree it's just a fashion, my friends love to all get bottles whilst i get my own much nicer drink.

Have nevee actually had english sparkling so might give it a go

outpinked · 12/04/2019 09:17

It’s on a par with Live Laugh Love.

tinnitusqueen · 12/04/2019 09:20

I was curious about why mummy drinks but didn't want to spend the money. What happened in them? Shouty kids and more prosecco?

Also fed up of all that wedding tat, pick a seat not a side. Unoriginal.

And clothing that has ~mispelled~ French stuff written on it. Do you want to walk around paris in a shirt that says "I love liffe " or something equally daft.
