22 year old dating a 17 year old..

What’s your opinions?

My brother is 22 and has recently started seeing a girl aged 17.

I don’t have a problem with it myself. I’m a female and I was 16/17 I dated a 20 year or, when I was 18 a 23 year old. When I was 19 I dated a 29 year old. (Clearly the relationships didn’t last very long 😂) but I’m now in a long term relationship and have kids with someone 12/13 years older than me.

She seems quite mature when I met her. My brother hasn’t had many girlfriends and he is quite immature regarding relationships it seems.

My family aren’t quite so keen but they didn’t seem so worried when I always dated older men? 🤣

I went out with a 22 year old when I was 17 for a few months. He was very respectful but got a lot of stick from friends and workmates. A lot of our dates were often in the pub with his family.

I would guess your parents are worried in case it turns sour and he ends up being accused of grooming her or similar.

Realistically it's not a huge gap, it just seems bigger when one of them is still at school. I met my now husband when I was 16 and he was 21, though we weren't officially going out until I was 18.

When I started going out with dp I was 17 and he was 22.... 12 years later and were still together.

Like your brothers situation I was probably more mature than my age and dp less mature than his age. So it worked out well for us, we seemed to meet somewhere in between and still do

All depends on the individuals. I met my first serious boyfriend when I was 17. He was 28. He waited until I was 18 before we became official. It was much harder for him than it was for me . We were a good match and I still believe he was an ideal first Boyfriend.

I was 18 when I met dh, who was then 23. We got together a year later when I was 19 and he was 24. We got engaged at those ages, and married when I was 20 and he was 25.....it's our 33rd wedding anniversary this year.
