Just in Superdrug and seen that we now have the option of scented tampons. What the absolute fuck is going on??? How to make women even more paranoid than ever Angry

Hang on, I thought you “just” found these products in Superdrug? But now you are saying you have previously smelt users of them?

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 11/04/2019 15:39

“I’m just getting fucked off by these threads where we are criticising other people's choices.”

Well, I’m pretty fucked off to be red raw down there, because of the ‘choices’ of some tits in the san pro marketing dept. Where was my choice? No one asked me as a consumer if I wanted or felt like I needed this product!

Nicknacky · 11/04/2019 15:42

But yet you used it? You had the choice not to buy it, no one forced you.

And not everyone will have the reaction you did.

azulmariposa · 11/04/2019 15:44

I accidentally brought some of these, they didn't really smell of much tbh. But boy did they give me an itchy fanny.
Tampons help stop the period smell anyway, so idk why they need to be scented?

BettysLeftTentacle · 11/04/2019 15:48

Makes me itch just thinking about it Envy

Fluffymule · 11/04/2019 15:50

Do men have such things targeted at them I wonder?
Woman have stuff like 'Femfresh' vaginal wash, wipes and sprays sold to them, are there a comparable stand-alone products for penis washing for men? Handy wipes for their wallets, or testicle spray to keep them fresh and smelling melon fresh perhaps?
What comparable marketing messages are aimed at men to remind them that 'intimate smells' might need masking?

keepforgettingmyusername · 11/04/2019 15:52

'Well, I’m pretty fucked off to be red raw down there, because of the ‘choices’ of some tits in the san pro marketing dept. Where was my choice? No one asked me as a consumer if I wanted or felt like I needed this product!'

What? You had the choice to buy an unscented product.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 11/04/2019 15:57

The problem with these products is that there is absolutely fuck all 'fresh' about the scents, they are disgusting. And when that gets mixed with whatever the smell is that you are supposed to be covering up (which is usually nothing anyway) it's going to be vile.

When someone does a big stinky poo and then sprays air freshener and it mixes with the poo smell it smells even worse! I'm not saying vaginas smell of poo, but honestly, those synthetic fragrances do absolutely nothing to make anything more fresh. Who thinks of this shite I don't know and I honestly think that the vast majority of the sales of these products are women picking them up accidentally and not realising they are the scented ones. Because who wants their fanny to smell like a Magic Tree and get thrush in the process?

TheDarkPassenger · 11/04/2019 15:57

They’ve been around ages I used them when I was a teenager, I’d probs use them now if there was nothing else but I usually go for Asda’s own.

Doesn’t really bother me, seems everyone on here gets thrush just thinking about it but I don’t so can safely use them, if you cant, dont

pushingdaisies · 11/04/2019 15:59

As I mentioned in my post, I bought Aldi pads that I've used before and they were never scented, never had a problem with them and it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging that they are scented, I only found out when I opened them and they smelled really strongly. I still used them thinking it wouldn't be an issue but they gave me welts and I stopped using them and wouldn't buy them again now I know they're scented

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 11/04/2019 16:00

There aren't any. Well there might be but they aren't on the mainstream supermarket shelves. You don't see 'Testi-Fresh' alongside the deodorants and the razors.

StylishDuck · 11/04/2019 16:00

YANBU I had a terrible time with scented Always (incontinence) pads when I was heavily pregnant that involves a trip to A&E and an extremely inflamed vulva requiring antihistamines. The dr was horrified when he examined me. I'd never really considered what I was buying before in terms of scented/unscented but I will never ever buy Always again. DH has to stop me tweeting them about it to complain Grin Reminded me and my red mist rage that it probably wasn't a good idea to send them a picture!

bengalcat · 11/04/2019 16:00

Presumably there’s a market for it - what sanitary products women use is entirely up to them scented / eco friendly / moon cups - who cares

rosydreams · 11/04/2019 16:01

lol i remember years ago my sister accidentally bought scented tampons in the states.Apparently when in use you stank of floral it was the strangest sanitary product she ever used

poorbuthappy · 11/04/2019 16:02

Where's the equivalent product for the smelly penis?
Why doesn't society spend it's time telling men their genitals could smell better?

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 11/04/2019 16:06

Presumably there’s a market for it

Like I said, I reckon most of the sales are women picking them up, getting home and being like 'oh fucking hell I accidentally bought the scented ones AGAIN'.

Coffee2sugars · 11/04/2019 16:08

Nickynacky they sell lots of scented sanitary products, I presume they all smell the same... Strangely I don't go around smelling other women's tampons Wink

PCohle · 11/04/2019 16:10

In theory I don't object to the concept of scented tampons. I'm all for giving women choice and options.

I don't think used tampons smell great personally. I'm not sure that that's due to patriarchal oppression so much as my sense of smell.

I don't understand why scented san pro all has to smell so sickly and hideous though.

TheKitchenWitch · 11/04/2019 16:11

I assume men wouldn’t buy them hence there being no scented genital male products.
FWIW I absolutely loathe the way periods smell. Yes they do. And i have no infections etc. I also can’t use the scented stuff due to reactions but I wish I could.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 11/04/2019 16:15

Well no, I don't think anyone sniffs a used tampon and thinks 'mmmmm, delicious' (well some people might actually, but it's probably a bit niche).

But a used tampon smell is definitely not going to be improved by covering it with disgusting air freshener. Then it will smell of used tampon mixed with air freshener, yuk!

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 11/04/2019 16:20

No!!! I did not choose this!!!! I was already a regular buyer of the exact same product, they changed it without me knowing, the new ones arrived as per, with my weekly shop, and I didn’t even realise until I started to use them that they smelled nasty, I had no choice but to continue at that point, because ya know, mother fucking nature Hmm, it wasn’t until a few days in, that the reaction occured and it took weeks to settle. It was awful and so painful.

So get off your flaming high horse.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 11/04/2019 16:21

The things is men don't really care if they have smelly bollocks do they, same way that they don't care if they do massive smelly shits in public loos or fart in public (I'm generalising here a bit obviously). Woman are socialised to care more about this stuff.

starlingsintheslipstream · 11/04/2019 16:24

I belong to a few survey sites and occasionally get products to test. I had some Always last month and at no stage in their follow up questionnaire did they ask me about the scent which I thought was strange. They wanted to know about absorbency, length, fit but didn't ask about fragrance which was one of the major turn offs for me. I suppose some research must have gone into the scented pads originally but I wonder who they asked Confused.

Nicknacky · 11/04/2019 16:28

Not Aye, sure they changed the contents and not the packaging.

Barbie Of course men also are concerned with feeling and smelling fresh. Why wouldn’t they?
