To call NHS 24/111

StormcloakNord · 09/04/2019 20:47

Sorry, posting for traffic.

DH thinks I should call 111 I am unsure.

Short of breath, fast heart rate, chest feels heavy like I cant quite get a proper breath, I'm dizzy when I stand up and feel quite faint. Also got a slight headache.

Aside from this theres no pain, I'm not cold/clammy and I dont think I'm going to die any time soon at least. I might be able to get a GP appointment tomorrow but more than likely will be towards the end of the week.

Genuinely unsure, would hate to be dramatic & call 111 and waste a whole bunch of time.

Glad you have got yourself seen, hope you are ok OP xx

Kahlua4me · 09/04/2019 21:20

You won’t be waiting hours at a&e with breathing problems, will be seen straight away.

They would rather you went in now and then discharged than left it too long and ...

CoffeeRunner · 09/04/2019 21:28

Apart from the fact that I work on an acute medical ward and would be concerned if a patient had your symptoms, I have also had them twice myself.

Both times I went to A&E. Once was a panic attack & I felt like a fool. Once was a pulmonary embolism.

You need to check.

StormcloakNord · 09/04/2019 21:29

Husband taking me to the hospital now, should get there in about 10 minutes. I'm sure it'll be nothing but better safe than sorry!

I've got a long term chest condition OP (Costochondritis) but my GP has told me to always go straight to A & E when I get sudden chest pains, just in case.

I've had to go in 3 times in the last year and I've always been seen right away, had an ECG within minutes of arriving. Luckily when that's always normal, I then get sent back to the waiting room to wait in the queue for bloods to confirm. Don't panic about a long queue, trust me.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/04/2019 21:30

Good luck Flowers

Kahlua4me · 09/04/2019 21:31

Glad you are going in now, it is indeed better to be safe than sorry.

Wishing you well.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 09/04/2019 21:32

All the best , hope it’s nothing too serious Flowers

ThelmaDinkley · 09/04/2019 21:37

Glad you are on your way OP. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Gertie75 · 09/04/2019 21:40

Glad you're being checked out Flowers

YeOldeTrout · 09/04/2019 21:40

Update us on what the visiting HCP says (Dr? Nurse?). Hope you feel better soon.

ShesABelter · 09/04/2019 21:43

Hope you are okay.

Nixen · 09/04/2019 21:44

Glad you’re going in. Always better safe than sorry with breathing difficulties

Claw01 · 09/04/2019 21:45

A woman came into my GP surgery the other day, while I was waiting, with similar symptoms. GP refused to see her and told her to go straight to A&E.

It’s not dramatic or OTT. You’ve made the right decision.

Good luck

ThorsMistress · 09/04/2019 21:48

Your definitely doing the right thing OP

Hope your ok

StormcloakNord · 09/04/2019 21:50

I am okay! Heart, blood pressure, temp etc everything was checked and I'm okay. Blood count being checked as they reckon I could be anemic as a result of long/heavy periods for years!

Feel silly but husband is happy I went and at least I know it's nothing serious!

Thanks everyone!!

Glad your getting checked out. Hope it is nothing serious

Claw01 · 09/04/2019 21:53

That was quick!

Don’t feel silly, even if anemia, you were feeling dizzy and faint and needed to be seen today.

OneOfTheGrundys · 09/04/2019 21:55

Glad you’re in the right place op.
Loss of consciousness/struggling to breathe/serious, agonising pain are my a&e go tos.

DH was diagnosed with a terminal illness last year... main symptom was slight breathlessness on a dog walk and mega snoring. He had stage 3 heart disease caused by a bone marrow disorder.

This won’t be you op... his case is vanishingly rare but breathlessness always wants checking.

Hugs tonight.

CherryBlossom23 · 09/04/2019 22:01

Glad it's nothing life threatening OP! Now that you mention anaemia I had almost all of those symptoms too when I was severely anaemic. It's an absolute pain in the arse but iron tablets will sort you out in a few weeks.

MidsomerBurgers · 09/04/2019 22:06

You were triaged, seen and posting on here within 10 minutes? Really?

StormcloakNord · 09/04/2019 22:25

@MidsomerBurgers

I live in a rural(ish) part of Scotland so things happen pretty quick here, I'm also one dual carriageway and a few turns away from the hospital so didn't take us long to get there! It's not a city hospital either it's a small town hospital so (luckily) very quiet.

OP posts:
Collectingcpd · 09/04/2019 22:27

OP, you’ve had an ECG and they are doing a troponin (because you had chest heaviness)? Obv I’m not there, but as an A&E dr I couldn’t possibly say there was nothing wrong in the time it’s taken you to get there and check in.

ABC1234DEF · 09/04/2019 22:28

I presented at A&E in a large, busy hospital (only A&E for about a 50 mile radius due to other hospitals closing their A&E departments overnight Hmm) with chest tightness and shortness of breath recently. I checked in at reception and noted the sign saying a 4 hour wait. I was called through to triage before my bum had even touched the seat.

StormcloakNord · 09/04/2019 22:29

@Collectingcpd I have no idea what any of those were! She first asked about my symptoms, then she put a clip thing on my finger and said my heart rate was okay and I had 100% saturation(?), then she listened to my breaths through a stethoscope and listened to my heart, then took my blood pressure and and my temperature then looked at the back of my throat. She didn't seem concerned at all!
