Hi all

Posting for traffic.
My 17 year old DD has a chronic condition that means she is in constant pain. She has a lot of medication but nothing very effective.

I’ve seen CBD in Holland & Barratt & read up what I can ... does anyone take it with success?

I bought some (10%) because I've got arthritis and thought it might help with the pain. It didn't. However, after a couple of weeks I realised I'd barely touched my asthma inhaler. I was using it multiple times a day, and now I use it once or twice a week. Mainly if I've been to a friends house who has cats/dogs.

Yes , I have experience with CBD oil and have many friends who have used it with great effect. Their illnesses range from epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and it has helped two friends with poor appetite and sleep issues who had cancer. It is also good for controlling nausea.

Our oldest son had major surgery last year, and was horrendously allergic to the anaesthetic, and had some bad reactions to a lot of analgesics . He had no appetite and couldn't sleep due to pain, nor could he stop puking - for over 48 hours. The head of the ICU cardiac department at a major hospital told me to find some CBD oil, gave me the name of a supplier and stated the hospital used it in the cancer ward ( secretly) on a regular basis. We got it, used it isn the hospital , his appetite returned, he was calmer and could sleep. It worked wonders for him. Doctor expressed the frustration he and many of his peers felt against the current difficulties here ( Australia) re prescribing something that was effective in a number of circumstances.

Results depends greatly on who the distiller is, their level of experience in making the oil, and the strength of the product. If it is sufficiently refined it shouldn't taste bad at all.
We've found some of the best oils come out of Spain, but are pricey - and sold in doses of graduating strength. We still use it for my son, when he has pain recurrences and looses his appetite.

I have never heard of capsules as a means of delivery. Normal is more a concentrate with a dropper. I'd also suspect government authorised doses sold in pharmacies are far less effective than those that those that come from people with years in the marijuana industry. ( but I'm skeptical like that )

Thank you all so much for your posts.
I really appreciate hearing your views.

Seems like enough people have had positives to make it worth a shot.

I think we’ll give the capsules we have a go for around a month and see if that gives any improvement or at least no side effects, and then look to get some stronger if needed.

I’d just like to help my daughter get back to some level of normality.

Thanks all.

It helped a lot with my anxiety but I took a high strength one and took double the quantity that they said to take. I also slept like a log

Wineott · 10/04/2019 07:56

For those asking where to buy stronger online, my brother gets it from a site called cannadonia I think they do different strengths and products. I haven't used it myself so can't comment on the effectiveness

Ellabella989 · 10/04/2019 07:57

I got mine from CBD Brothers. It’s quite pricey (think I was spending around £40 per month) but it was worth it when it cured my anxiety

SpamChaudFroid · 10/04/2019 08:00

Simply CBD on Facebook mentioned upthread are much cheaper than most sellers of CBD. I wouldn't buy form H+B, they're v. expensive for low concentration.

I use 10% tincture and 30% in a vape. It's been brilliant for helping with sleep, which was all over the place, thanks to peri-meno.

VeepVeep · 10/04/2019 08:04

Hi, I've used it for sleep issues and tinnitus and I found it really helpful. But you must get a decent brand - my friend did tons of research - you don't want to buy off the shelf.

If you DM me, I will check what brand it is when I'm home - it's an organic source with different types and strengths.

It's def worth a try for pain, without question.

Slicedpineapple · 10/04/2019 08:08

I use it for a chronic pain condition (when I'm not pregnant) and have found I have to take less prescribed pain relief. I was also able to conceive after a long time of trying, after I had started taking 4/5 drops of CBD oil every day. I just use the one from Holland and Barrett.

MaroonFlame · 10/04/2019 08:13

THC is the component that actually helps pain, appetite and sleep etc. But obviously it’s very psychoactive and can be addictive. CBD will barely touch you, especially if it’s a small dosage. There should be legal, small dose THC oils available on prescription for severe issues and illnesses, it would really help a lot of people

My story with cbd oil is a good one .... in 2016 I was diagnosed with gallstones.... I was put on the waiting list at the time it didn’t really hurt that much I could take paracetamol and that would do the trick ! Fast forward to 2018 I became seriously ill with a gallbladder infection I was kept in hospital but they refused to remove the nasty gallbladder because off the infection ...... I was finally discharged and put on a cocktail off painkillers.... I’m not a pill popper and I was worried I was taking far to many painkillers , so I did a hell off a lot off research and found a company called CBD brothers .... I wasn’t hopeful at first but then one night I had a horrendous gallbladder attack I took a cbd capsule and 15 mins later I was pain free!!! 😮 I was amazed as even morphine didn’t take away the pain ..... so my gallbladder was seriously diseased and finally a surgeon scheduled for it to be removed .... by this point I was getting attacks 7 times a day and cbd was the only thing that kept me functioning.... I continued to take cbd right up until my surgery day!! So they took me down for the operation (keyhole) .....when I was back on the ward the surgeon came to see me and told me my gallbladder was bad and was near rupture-in ..... I was discharge some day later and and the doctors where amazed how well I was .... I continue to this day to take cbd oil I never get sick I hardly ever get a headache and it keeps me bright eyed and bushy tailed!! I’m trying for a baby this year and I will continue to take cbd because I believe it does wonders .....x

My, extremely conservative and traditional, dad swears by it. Bad back, bad hip, bad knees at 85, but has dramatically improved since taking it.

SweatyUnderboob · 10/04/2019 17:26

I’ve been experimenting with it as I’m all for alternative medicine. I’ve had a few for my vape and and the edible one from Holland and Barrett. I so wanted it to work but all I got were stomach cramps after using the dropper to put some under my tongue. I think the quality varies massively as everyone is getting on the CBD train lately.

I won’t write it off yet but atm seems like emperor’s new clothes / or a grown-up rescue remedy.

domton · 10/04/2019 20:35

I have lupus and tried it to manage the joint pain that comes with it. No luck for me, but some people with similar swear by it. Nothing to lose by trying, I'd try anything really, within reason, scientific or not.

TurquoiseLagoon · 10/04/2019 21:27

I was going through a very difficult time emotionally. Had a bit of a meltdown, couldn't stop crying. Dh gave me some cbd and it calmed me down immediately. That doesn't sound like much but I don't want to go into too much detail. But I was in a bad place and it instantly calmed me

TheseThingsAreFunAndFunIsGood · 10/04/2019 21:33

Try CBD brothers. My dad (late 70s) takes it for COPD and chronic back pain and it's revolutionised his life - I wrote about it on another thread on the same subject on here long ago. Good luck for your daughter Flowers

bbcessex · 15/04/2019 22:41

Thank you for sharing your experiences. We are about 5 days in with the capsules now - doubling up with no side effects.. can’t see any huge results in pain yet but her mood seems to have lifted (not the goal but a positive effect).

will keep trying and upgrade to a stronger type in a few weeks.

Thanks again everyone.

UPDATE 😎😎😎

hello all.. just wanted to let you know that we’ve had a few days away with our daughter and she’s been like a new person.

She’s been taking 2 CBD capsules a day for I guess about 9 days.. her pain is less, she’s been able to join us for (short) walks and been out for meals.

She has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and is often unable to go out for days.. it could certainly be a coincidence but her mood has changed, she feels positive and has just had so much more energy (still prob only 20% of a typical teenager but that’s a huge improvement on before).

She’s also had the first of a series of Vitamin B12 injections - 5 more to come over the next 10 days.

We’re going to continue with this bottle of Holland & Barrett CBD capsules until it’s finished then move on to a higher strength oil as per all your fabulous recommendations.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to share your stories. We’ve had the best week with DD in a long, long time.

Thanks for coming back op. Which brand did you go with in the end?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 19/04/2019 14:01

Don't you think the vitamin B12 injections are the more likely reason your daughter feels better?

Dizzywizz · 19/04/2019 14:05

Yes, when did the injections start in relation to this improvement?

Greensleeves · 19/04/2019 14:12

If you use it in vape, does it smell of weed?
