To take pork scratchings to work?

NoHolidaysforyou · 09/04/2019 20:11

I am forced to eat low carb. When I got pregnant I had gestational diabetes, and after I gave birth I lost over 7 stone. I am about to start a nursing program and I know nurses are unable to have meals all the time, but I need to eat little bits or else I get a sick feeling. I can't eat large meals at once either, because I would feel sick. Would it be weird to take pork scratchings to work with me as a snack? They are low carb, but a small amount can make me feel full. I feel bloated/off with nuts or other low carb snacks other than like cheese I guess. AIBU to take pork scratchings to work? I'm just not sure if people would find it gross or something. I had a friend who used to get really offended by the sight of beef jerky.

It's not your problem if other people don't like them. I can't stand loads of things (fishy-smelling stuff and baked beans mainly), but I wouldn't expect people not to eat them near me.

You are not being unreasonable to take pork scratching anywhere in my opinion.... but I'm aware I may be in the minority

Rainandclouds · 09/04/2019 20:21

I love pork scratching!

Giddyuppp · 09/04/2019 20:21

I genuinely didn't realise you shouldn't eat them around people? People also don't like egg sandwiches and the such but doesn't stop people having them for lunch and nor should it.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/04/2019 20:22

I would take them.

recrudescence · 09/04/2019 20:22

Perhaps take them to work in a plain wrapper and sneak them into your mouth surreptitiously? If anyone challenges you say they are savoury quinoa clusters.

Switsy · 09/04/2019 20:23

I wouldn't think it's gross but i might throw my stapler at you if you made loads of crunching noises.

BeanTownNancy · 09/04/2019 20:24

I'm 8 months pregnant with gestational diabetes... And now I want pork scratchings. Damn it.

I find them repulsive but I wouldn't try and stop someone else eating them (unless they were eating right in my face with their mouth open). I assume you'll be eating them in a common area not a quiet office space so I say munch away!

DitheringBlidiot · 09/04/2019 20:27

I don’t mind the smell but I’d throw you out a window before I had to sit and listen to you eat them.

NaughtyLittlePassport · 09/04/2019 20:28

Just take them. The myriad of smelly fish lunches that get heated up in the coffee room (also NHS) and no one cares.
Can't see a problem with them. You won't be allowed food on the nurses station usually so will need to work it where to stash them.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 09/04/2019 20:28

I love pork scratchings!

minisoksmakehardwork · 09/04/2019 20:29

Hell no yanbu! There are so many worse things to eat in communal spaces (and I'm a great lover of fish as well as pork scratchings).

Devonishome1 · 09/04/2019 20:35

That’s made me want some now! I’ve not eaten any for years.

Satwatchinganotherswimlesson · 09/04/2019 21:04

If you have a health issue that requires you to eat regularly make sure occupational health are aware. They will make sure adjustments are put in place to allow you to eat regularly throughout your shifts. I love a pork scratching!

AirBiscuit · 09/04/2019 21:15

Pork scratchings should be available for free on the NHS. They solve all known illnesses. Much better than juice plus and other airy fairy so called super foods

rickandmorts · 09/04/2019 22:05

I'm NHS and most likely a terrible colleague Grin. I stick anything in the microwave; curry, Chinese, pizza, fish etc. Or at least I did when I had time for lunch Sad. But I'd say crack on with the scratchings!

givemesteel · 09/04/2019 22:36

Well, I think they're a bit 'vulgar' so I would probably judge you a tiny bit... They remind me of darts players.

If I had to eat them for the reasons you say I'd probably eat them in the loo so no one saw.

Giddyuppp · 09/04/2019 22:40

You'd actually sit on the toilet at work and eat them? Grim.

Flowersinthedungeon · 09/04/2019 22:45

nobody would bat an eyelid in our (nhs) staff room. some one had mussels in garlic sauce the other the dayGrin

Grin

I love that you are so stuck up that you would eat something sat on the loo rather than be seen to be common!!! Are you Hyacinth Bucket made flesh?

WheelyCote · 09/04/2019 23:07

Nurses are already onto pork svratchings.

Theyres a brand that dont look as gross as some narly ones....cant think of the name. Might help people stop being offended. Ive never come across it though.

My boss has a thing about bananas...sends her sick. She thinks theyre gross...

NaughtyLittlePassport · 10/04/2019 09:45

Not vulgar, trendy. Low carb innit!

Ratonastick · 10/04/2019 09:50

You’d have a serious issue in my workplace. I’d last about 3 days before losing my cool and stealing them when you weren’t looking. Keep them about your person at all times.

Wallsbangers · 10/04/2019 09:51

I love them. They might be low carb but aren't they covered in salt?
