To take pork scratchings to work?

I am forced to eat low carb. When I got pregnant I had gestational diabetes, and after I gave birth I lost over 7 stone. I am about to start a nursing program and I know nurses are unable to have meals all the time, but I need to eat little bits or else I get a sick feeling. I can't eat large meals at once either, because I would feel sick. Would it be weird to take pork scratchings to work with me as a snack? They are low carb, but a small amount can make me feel full. I feel bloated/off with nuts or other low carb snacks other than like cheese I guess. AIBU to take pork scratchings to work? I'm just not sure if people would find it gross or something. I had a friend who used to get really offended by the sight of beef jerky.

The smell makes me feel a bit ill, but I'd just avoid where you were eating them for a while. Tuna does too, so I avoid the canteen when that's on offer!

Are you going to be walking around eating them? You might smell quite strongly then, which might not be ideal for ill people.

Have you talked to the hospital about getting some reasonable adjustments in place?

Are you going to make your own? Tom Kerridge has a fantastic recipe, if you are interested.
Nothing wrong with taking something into work that works for you.

Yummy pork scratchings! The best ones are the Black country ones that come in the black and clear packet - scrummy!!

AppleKatie · 10/04/2019 10:53

They are the original pub food surely? So the opposite of anti social?

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 10/04/2019 10:56

I used to work with a woman who used to heat up her left over Kedgeree in the microwave in our tiny staff room!

Pork scratchings will be fine Smile

The smell wouldn't annoy me but I'd be plotting how to kill you and get away with it because of the noise. I'm not fun to live with though 🙂

Now I want pork scratching, damnit! Looks like I may go and find some during my lunch break....

PregnantSea · 10/04/2019 11:10

Just eat the pork scratching. People can come and tell you if there's some reason why it means they aren't able to do their jobs effectively whilst you eat them...

Yanbu
Some of us at work are low carb
I take in hard boiled eggs and a chicken carcass.
My colleague has brought in mackerel, hearts and sometimes liver.
People will be jealous of the scratchings

I take in hard boiled eggs and a chicken carcass.

What, the whole carcass? Why? Confused

TooOldForThisUrgh · 10/04/2019 11:21

Pork scratching are life!

Halloumimuffin · 10/04/2019 11:31

I didn't even realise they were low carb...which makes sense...I'm starting low carb this week so I will have to invest in many bags! You are so NBU.

Junkmail · 10/04/2019 11:34

I have seen nurses eating all kinds of odd things on shift when I worked as a nurse (not that I think pork scratching are particularly odd?) so I honestly wouldn’t worry about it! You need to stay fuelled.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 10/04/2019 11:58

Arnt they seen as similar to minging crisps in public.

They are definitely not my choice but then you probably wouldn't like my hummus etc.

I'd much rather you eat your disgusting pig skin them next to me in spite of the noise than bloody stinking egg or some foul smelling soup and I'm a non meat eater!

Crack on and get them eaten!

Siameasy · 10/04/2019 12:07

What, the whole carcass

An edited carcass. I cook a bird and eat some and wrap up the rest in foil and bring it in. I share it with my colleagues rather than take it home.

BummyKnocker · 10/04/2019 12:08

One of the few joys of low carb is eating pork scratchings with no guilt.

Enjoy them.

polarpig · 10/04/2019 12:12

YABVU because they only belong in the bin but if you like them and promise not to eat them within 100 miles of me then of course YANBU Grin
