To wish the CBeebies presenters would stop singing?

Oh my ears!! This trend of under-rehearsed random songs, written on the back of a fag packet, sung live by the ones who really can't sing and that puppet thing, has to end.

Sadly CBeebies house is no longer the escapist haven of musical joy it once was - but a torture chamber for my soul. Whatever happened to high standards? Where's the quality control? What happened to EDITING.

Sigh.

Be careful what you wish for.

The DC might end up avid fans of every shitty Disney kids' show - or, more likely, the one that actually makes your teeth bleed.

I cringed at toddler TV c. 2003. Oh, how I wished DD was still little a few years later when she discovered The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (although I gave it airtime due to Carlton from Fresh Prince obviously needing to pay his mortgage), That's So Raven, High School Musical on constantly and, worst of all, her absolute favourite, The Twatty Fucking Wizardy Twats of Twatty Fucking Waverley Twatty Place. I fucking hated that twatty fucking show more than any other. And then she started talking at me the way they spoke to their parents. With the fucking accent to go with the attitude.

I HATE Justin Fletcher’s to make matters worse, where I live he is a local celebrity and is in the professional pantomime EVERY year! The first half is usually ok, but the second half just turns into the Justin fletcher show! I swear, it’s the same script just a different title. And he is certainly no Prince Charming!!!!

Apologies- end of ‘off topic’ rant!

LordPickle · 10/04/2019 17:38

I'll take CBeebies singing presenters any day over 10 minutes of adverts between cartoons on every other kids station.

DIZZYTIGGER87 · 10/04/2019 18:01

My years of youth and children's work have given me the ability to ignore most annoying songs. Although if I ever have to stop and listen I cringe...more so because it makes me wonder just how bad we sounded at children's clubs 🙄😳

However as my 20mo DS loves dancing around to them, I figure it works for the chosen audience?

Lizzie48 · 10/04/2019 18:31

I quite agree. My DDs used to be constantly saying, ' I want that for Christmas.' Grin

DuggeeHugs · 10/04/2019 18:41

The singing in baby club is ok. It's the NUMBERRRRRS NUMBERRRRRS song every morning that takes sleep deprivation to an even deeper level of hell

Moralitym1n1 The tracksuit guy's a Geordie not a bloody Scouser!
And you do realise stereotypes, in various forms, are the basis of most of comedy?
Are we not allowed to laugh at ourselves now? I bet you lot are fun at parties!

KC225 · 11/04/2019 08:14

Seeline Thank you for that breakfast treat down memory lane. Hale and Pace and the 'we know a song about that don't we.....'. I had forgotten about that - bloody funny

Biancadelrioisback · 11/04/2019 08:25

@Aquilia I am a Geordie. I have not seen this character. Now all I want is to see this character! I love when people try and do Geordie stereotypes!

SlimGin · 11/04/2019 08:32

I do cringe at the presenters especially during 'numberrrrs' which is musically designed like a car alarm. I always think they must go out of a drink after CBeebies bedtime and get pissed.

I can't stand how Milkshake presenters have to have such high energy. I loved Milkshake as a kid so must work, but it's so extreme and really annoying.

Moralitym1n1 · 11/04/2019 08:43

@Aquilla

Oh fk you're right! I don't know why I said Scouser (apart from 18 months of baby related sleep deprivation).

Still believe stereotypes like that wouldn't slip through on adult TV though; as for laughing at them, maybe if they were FUNNY. But his characters aren't funny, they're dated and laboured and cringy and unfunny. It's inflicting out of date, piss poor, low quality, offensive to some people, cringey, bargain basement shit on kids cause they can get away with it with kids. The kids just watch it, it goes over their heads and they don't know any better.

NorthernRunner · 11/04/2019 08:46

I’m really not a fan of CBeebies and thankfully my daughter isn’t either. She quite likes Milkshake on Chanel 5 and whilst they do some awful butlins type singing and dancing, it’s for about 60seconds and fairly infrequent.
I do think children’s tv presenters are required to be insufferable.

Moralitym1n1 · 11/04/2019 08:49

No they're not, they used to be (the basis of poor quality comedy). I can't think of one (good) comedy show that relies on stereotypes.

Laugh at ourselves? I dunno, maybe if they do an Ulster Scots northern Irish parody/stereotype, I'll see if I find it funny .. in the meantime I don't find panto dames, Geordies in tracksuits, men in drag etc funny (esp since none of his plots or lines are funny).

But my main point is that it's piss poor quality shit they're taking advantage by broadcasting on kids TV, should we not expect better for them.

Oh and cheers for the "you must be fun at parties!" line, a MN classic that never gets old. With that originality maybe you should write for Justin Fletcher.

@NeitherNowtNorSummat01

I avoid justin by travelling further to Basingstoke. I love gigglebiz thoughSmile

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 11/04/2019 09:40

He doesn't write Gigglebiz.

LoadOfUtterBoswellocks · 11/04/2019 09:40

I like Rapids Johnson as well, actually.

Minai · 11/04/2019 10:07

I quite like the songs they do that are pre-recorded like the shapes one but when they do random singing in the bits in between the programmes it’s really annoying. Especially Evie, she grates on me so much! Disclaimer, we watched far too much CBeebies when I was heavily pregnant with back problems a few months ago so it now irritates me much more than it should

floribunda18 · 12/04/2019 09:33

YABU. I saw tiny bits of the Disney channel and other kids TV channels when my two were small and thanked my lucky stars that CBeebies was the worst I had to suffer.

LittleAndOften · 12/04/2019 12:26

This is so funny. I thought my thread had sunk without trace after 24hrs and forgot about it. I've suddenly came across all these comments! Grin

I take the point about adverts. We flit between CBeebies and Prime (for Paw Patrol, Fireman Sam etc) so don't watch any adverts. I imagine I've got that to look forward to when DS starts to take control of the remote.

Confession time - I've always liked Justin! At least he can hold a tune...

I look back nostalgically to the days when Gdd (still only nearly 4) was happy with CBeebies and Peppa Pig.

She now wants to watch Barbie Hair Salon and similar ghastly American crap on my iPad. (My fault for letting her watch anything on it in the first place.)
Often I tell her I forgot to charge it, but will admit to giving in now and then for the sake of a bit of P and Q.

As for the endless ads for garish plastic trash on other channels, give me CBeebies any day.

MoonriseKingdom · 12/04/2019 12:47

I like Ryan - he’s so smiley and enthusiastic ... but his singing is dreadful. Cat is the only one I would choose to listen to but my children like all the songs. My 2 year old DD really loves Andy and his various adventures!

NobodysBlackerThanMe · 12/04/2019 12:52

CBeebies is our go-to channel. There's no ads, no garish, Japanese cartoons dubbed into English. The live shows are superb (aoart from Thumbelina, a rare mis-step), and Justin is such an all round entertainer. They could do with having an Irish presenter though.

LittleAndOften · 12/04/2019 13:04

@MoonriseKingdom I agree. Ryan, Ben and new Evie very enthusiastic but should be relieved of singing duties.

@NobodysBlackerThanMe I agree, CBeebies is vastly superior to most other kids TV. I just wish they'd be a bit more discerning about who gets those lead vocals!
