To take my daughters phone off her at bedtime

My daughter throws a hissy fit because i take her phone off her at bedtime. She's 12 and goes to bed about 10 during the week for school and i usually take her phone off her about 30 mins to an hour before that so she can have downtime. She moans all the time at me that her friends are allowed to stay up later and have their phones all night. At the weekend i let her stay up til about midnight but again i take her phone off her and she takes a major strop and sometimes cries. Does anyone else experience this?

A circle device sounds like a great idea. I will have a look into that.

Thanks for all your replies, she's my oldest so this is my first time experiencing this. She is sensible to a point but if she gets messages from her friends through the night then i know she would be nosey enough to pick the phone up. She has on occasion left her phone on and the amount of notifications she gets is unbelievable. She's in 1st year at high school and i want her to get into a good routine for the years ahead and set the precedent for her younger sisters when they get to that age. I know sometimes it can just be her hormones that she gets upset easily (i know what i can be like at that time of the month) but i just wondered what the majority of other parents done when it came to tech at nights as it seems my DDs friends are allowed to just do what they want.

Keep going. We have literally the same battle with my 12 year old DD. The rule is hand it over at 9 or it is lost for a week.
I am more flexible on school holidays and Friday nights but other wise it's gone. I have 3 DS too and to be honest it genuinely wasn't an issue with them. They switched it off and went to sleep. My DD however is addicted. I have her phone by my bed and I usually switch it off, my on the nights I forget I can be awoken by messages pinging at all hours
