Would you let the council know that someone was committing disability benefit fraud?

I'm conflicted.

This is a family member, I don't want to give to much away. I've changed username too.

I have no experience of benefits (apart from child benefit)
This person is claiming to be disabled to get their rent paid BUT are subletting their house out to multiple people ... they are making a considerable amount of money.

I won't lie, I don't like this person and it grinds on me that they are so smug and boastful about what they are doing.

Do I just ignore? Or tell someone?

Yes, I say report the housing fraud. Subletting would only be a problem if they are recieving help with housing, or if they are on ant means tested benefit such as ESA which would be affected by income. If you report it someone will chase it up, and if they do receive hb the allegation would be looked into.

By the sounds of it they aren't actually commiting doubtful disability fraud. They could be commiting Hb fraud but nothing you've said hints towards disability fraud. I would advise against mentioning their disability or disability fraud, unless you have more information. I work for DWP fraud as admin and I hate inputting the doubtful disability. Some are so short sighted I could weep. Things like 'people can make sandwiches for the legion so should work' or "he goes out drinking' or 'he can go for a run each day'. Having worked on PIP I know how cruel the processes can be and how hard it is to get PIP. So unless you have proper proof they are commiting disability fraud don't mention it. You have a good reasoning for mentioning the housing, which could affect Hb or Means tested Benefit. It has no impact on disability so don't.

I hate hate hate disability allegations. They are almost always ignorant, short sighted, judgemental, bitter and stereotype claimants. What's worse is we have to put them on the system and potentially cause even more stress to what is likely a vulnerable person

Absolutely report. And the good thing is he will be monitored in the future so anything that crops up in Dwp/HMRC with his name on it will be closely scrutinised.

OP the only issue I can see is housing benefit fraud, by all means report relative for that I hope they get caught .

Raspberrytruffle · 05/04/2019 19:36

Plus it's also taking up a house that another person could desperately use if he isn't actually living there

Prove it

Shadesorsunnies · 05/04/2019 19:52

slipperywhensparticus The OP doesn’t need to.

OP you can report anonymously online here

Absolutely would report any benefit fraud - scams like that make it difficult for genuine claimants to be taken seriously. Taxpayers money is not there to be pilfered by scammers.
