10,000 on standby in case of Brexit disorder. Wtf?

No. No no no. What are we allowing to happen? This prospect is appalling. I feel utterly powerless to say or do anything to alter the craziness gripping our politicians. I believe some of them welcome the prospect of disorder to reinforce that their way is the only way that would prevent it. I absolutely despair and only hope reason will prevail.

We have a veneer of civilisation. If things go bad, massive economic shock, medicines running low, food prices skyrocketing, see how fast we become Rwanda or Yugoslavia. Skyscrapers and cars don’t mean shit when things go extremely pear shaped.

Even people who once wore a suit to work will be out rioting when they can’t get insulin for their kid or can’t get enough food. Hell I’ve seen people get angry when their WiFi goes down for five minutes

Oh for heavens sake what hyperbolic silliness. Civilization didn't crash into anarchy in the seventies when there were three day weeks and power shortages and we had no bread and petrol for a week. People grumbled stoically and got on with it. I'm a remainer but this silly scaremongering isn't helpful. We might have delays in out of season salads and fresh foods but we have basic stocks for a few days.

There is enough insulin and other meds. Plus its unlikely that we will just be allowed to crash out by Europe. So much foolish crap coming from both sides feeding an already shit stirring media

aintnothinbutagstring · 04/04/2019 12:34

Err, it's the NHS that have increased stock of body bags amongst many other medical goods, probably not because we're all gonna die so don't get too excited, more likely because their current supplier of body bags is in Europe as are the suppliers of many medicines and medical goods. Just like in the past, the NHS had stockpiled masses of hazmat suits to prepare their staff for pandemic flu, and that hasn't happened yet.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 04/04/2019 12:41

Thats your Tommy Robinson acolytes, giving it large.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/04/2019 15:43

The Mandibles anyone?

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/books/2016/may/08/the-mandibles-lionel-shriver-review-biting-near-future-satire

Of course the big irony is that Shriver, author of a book that captures so well people’s fears for the economic shock of a no-deal brexit, hates the EU.

Jessgalinda · 04/04/2019 15:46

I have just asked my sister and her DH, both Police Officers, I showed them this thread and they both laughed!

Either they are idiots or not police officers.

Childrenofthestones · 04/04/2019 15:48

If they are such useless twats as they were in the London riots we had better hope for rain when we eventually leave(or don't as the case may be)

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 15:50

Thank you, Hellenbackagain for a few sensible posts amongst all the 'panic.'

BarrenFieldofFucks · 04/04/2019 16:09

Loving the fact that the laughter of two apparent random police officers should be a more reliable source here 😂

IceRebel · 04/04/2019 19:20

Indeed, very reliable those apparent police officers. Although perhaps the laughter was the nervous type. Grin

HelenaDove · 04/04/2019 20:13

Except the 70s was fifty years ago AND in a different century so maybe ppl expect more progress and not regression?

fwiwinamechanged · 04/04/2019 23:10

From one of my fave fb pages....Smile

10,000 on standby in case of Brexit disorder. Wtf?
Whatafustercluck · 04/04/2019 23:20

Nonsense. When this is all over we'll have a nice cup of tea, apologise profusely to one another and our European neighbours and never, ever speak of this again.

hellenbackagen · 04/04/2019 23:22

what seen that on fb too! 😆

Whatafustercluck · 04/04/2019 23:25

Damn you Hellen I've been exposed. Rather a nice placard I thought.

HelenaDove · 04/04/2019 23:26

In related news James Cleverly has just been appointed Brexit Minister.

WattdeEll · 05/04/2019 00:15

I’ve already had a mooch around my Tesco local to eye up what I’d loot when the looting starts. Just to be prepared, like the walk around on supermarket sweep. Wink disclaimer: Girl Scout, be prepared and all that, unlikely to actually loot.

colouringinpro · 05/04/2019 00:21

hobbes no. There aren't enough meds.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/brexit-no-deal-nhs-epilepsy-bipolar-medicine-stockpiling-a8855131.html

My dcs dad needs one of these to stay alive.

People fight to get black Friday bargains.

You really DON'T think they'll fight when there are shortages in food and medicine. Which there will undoubtedly be.

If you're not worried about the prospect of no-deal then you are lucky to be so ignorant.

Gth1234 · 05/04/2019 00:24

There's always 10000 on standby. The biggest problem is the remainder need not accepting the result. A second referendum would be ok, but the question should be May's deal, or no deal.

hellenbackagen · 05/04/2019 00:33

Is there bollocks always 10000 on stand by!

IceRebel · 05/04/2019 06:29

There's always 10000 on standby.

I would love to see the evidence that supports this claim. Hmm

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/04/2019 06:57

The thing is, there aren’t ‘extra’ police officers. They are everyday PCs having their leave cancelled, shift lengths extended etc. Of course they are available at all times. This ‘plan’ has been put in place but it happens all the time for different things.

Jessgalinda · 05/04/2019 07:21

They dont put police officers on notice of cancelling leave all the time.

Nowthenforever2019 · 05/04/2019 07:27

My husband's force have cancelled all leave and their rest days will also be cancelled if necessary. There are no more police, just the current ones completely overworked and not properly rested. It's a recipe for a disaster. Bloody Theresa May. She cut police officer numbers as home sec in the first place

Jessgalinda · 05/04/2019 07:32

Nowthenforever2019 to be fair, they did this back in 2001 during the Bradford riots. My brother was knackered.

That wasnt TMs fault

TuftyBum · 05/04/2019 07:41

I can't imagine there would be riots and unrest though.
wasnt it 51% or thereabouts?
so that leaves a lot of remainers who wont riot

There will be a certain type of person who wants to riot and they will join either sides protests looking for trouble. Look at the 2011 riots, some people used the death of Mark Dungannon as an excuse to riot.
