And we live in the South West and hardly use any water (not on a meter).
I feel like using loads now!

How much do you pay and which area?

I’m in the NW I pay £41 a month for myself plus a teenager on a meter,

I should move back to N.Ireland no water rates plus a lot lower council tax

HotChocolateLover · 04/04/2019 08:27

As soon as I saw that amount I knew it would be south west water! I used to live in that region and it was £88 per month for 1 adult and 1 child in a 2 bed flat!! Moved regions now and it’s £41pcm for 3 adults in a 3 bed house.

Turquoisetamborine · 04/04/2019 08:34

We are in the area of Northumbrian Water and have a meter. We live in a three bed semi, four of us and have a large garden to water. We pay £37pm

flowerstar19 · 04/04/2019 10:54

OP, we are also with Wessex water and recent switched to a meter, as it was crazily expensive - you get two years to decide if you want to stay on the meter and if it costs you more in those two years on the meter than you would otherwise have paid they will refund the difference! Not had our first metered bill yet though...

Biker47 · 04/04/2019 11:02

About £20 a month for 2 people, on a meter.

losingfaith · 04/04/2019 11:11

Pluses and negatives re meters. My mil bless her has dementia and a live in carer. She is on a meter and her water based on her current usage southern have estimated £867 for the year! It's a combination of not turning taps off (we've tried everything - she has always been like that) and the sheer amount of washing that needs to be done...

clarrylove · 04/04/2019 11:15

We are with Severn Trent and on a meter. Family of 4 in a large detached 5 bed house and water /sewerage works out at £1 a day.

Gedge77 · 04/04/2019 11:36

Thats a lot. Ours is 400 a year. On a meter 5 people 4 bed house. Thames water.

FluffyBumps · 05/04/2019 00:01

My 40 odd quid a month for water rates is over 10 months I think.

I refused to even look at houses with water meters in when we moved house a few years back. 5 adults in our housr and they way we live I would hate to be worried about useage. Also my elderly Grandmother had to fight for repairs to a leak right on the border of her land/public highway for months. The underground leak only discovered after a 900 quid water bill received. It was such a nightmare to resolve and so distressing for her.

I don't waste water but we like to wash our own cars, windows, grow veg and do gardening etc. I do use water butts but also rely on the garden hose.

Gth1234 · 05/04/2019 00:32

Get a meter. It won't possibly be that much. We had an underground leak for a period and it was only costing what you pay.

Indie139 · 05/04/2019 19:23

Thats high! I pay £280 a year

daftgeranium · 05/04/2019 19:54

If you voted Tory, then you deserve it, they privatised the water companies.

It’s disgusting for it to be that amount, I wouldn’t go onto a smart meters, or water meters, I don’t see why as the quality of the water in hard, just looking into your kettle says it, all,

BackfightTerri · 09/05/2022 17:07

Hi everyone all changes on watergate are gone beyond jokes, we need to stand together on these charges, I wrote to Thames waters who are owed by Kemble Water a consortium of investors led by Australia bank Macquarie the biggest investors are China who owes Thames Water (£2trillon) pounds YES THAT IS CORRECT…. I am in debt but happy and pay Thames water what I can afford to paid, it’s not that they can cut off the water supply or restrict your water supply, people don’t realise that they not pay taxes, if they did they wouldn’t be need for water rate changing, the still end up with billons in their pockets

fussychica · 09/05/2022 17:14

We're in the south west, have a meter and pay around £270pa. Sounds like you would benefit from changing to a meter.

CeeJay81 · 09/05/2022 17:17

I think what's ridiculous is that water rates vary so much across the country. South West I hearnis partially expensive and also Wales where We live. We pay £59 a month. Yet people in London pay a lot less.

Crikeyblimey · 09/05/2022 17:31

We are in the NW and pay £17 a month. On a meter. There’s only two of us during term time and three in holidays. I’m frugal / or rather not wasteful with water but that’s for environmental reasons rather than cost necessarily.

TenoringBehind · 09/05/2022 17:51

£652 per year. Midlands, Severn Trent water. Meter, 4 people.

Ejk1990 · 09/05/2022 17:53

I'm in the south West and pay 360 a year for a 4 bed. It actually reduced by a few pound this April.

We have have baths and use a dishwasher most days.

bloodywhitecat · 09/05/2022 17:54

£15 a month, no sewerage charges though

Chaoslatte · 09/05/2022 17:58

Definitely get a meter, we are with Thames water on a meter and pay £15 a month!

What? So because you live in an area where there is a lot of chalk in the soil, something the water company have no control over, you are paying more for your water in protest?

Allthe4s · 09/05/2022 18:04

Wow that’s loads. SE and £35 pm, no metre. 4 beds but 3 people.

If it makes you feel any better my council tax is ridiculous and just goes up and up. Between council tax, home energy and water it’s about £8k running costs per year now without any other essentials like insurance - let alone the mortgage, food and fuel.

TimBoothseyes · 09/05/2022 18:16

I'm in the SW. 2 of us here and we pay £16pm on a meter. Before I had it put in (before DP moved in), I was paying £35 pcm.

knowinglesseveryday · 09/05/2022 22:26

I wouldn't use a meter. I think they end up costing more for most people
