And we live in the South West and hardly use any water (not on a meter).
I feel like using loads now!

How much do you pay and which area?

Thanks everyone. We are only 4 and live in a 4 bedroom house. Will have a look at the Wessex water website.

We're a family of four, using quite a lot of water I think and pay £50 a month on a meter.

RubyRedBerry · 03/04/2019 09:45

I pay roughly £320 a year. i'm not on a meter, i asked for one but i'm not allowed as i have 2 water supplies, so they gave me a 'light users' price. it use to be around £500. My parents pay around £250 a year metered and my nan pays around £160 a year on a meter.....£920 a year is ridiculous!

Ingurr · 03/04/2019 09:48

We're with Yorkshire Water £911.78 pa. I don't think we would save with a meter as Water is £369 and the rest is Sewerage, surface water and standing charges £542. I assume the other charges are payable even on a water meter.

Unclebuck3 · 03/04/2019 09:52

I moved to the south west from London and nearly passed out when I saw the water rates! We asked for a meter but couldn’t have one installed due to an awkward layout. South West water then dropped us down to a cheaper tariff, about 600 a year from 900.Ex Dp then moved out for a year and I qualified for the water care tariff so it’s now about 450. Ex moved back in 2 months ago after losing his job to illness and becoming homeless. I know I have to tell them he’s back but I really don’t want to pay so much money Sad

Tensixtysix · 03/04/2019 09:52

Mad isn't it? The wettest parts of the UK pay the most!

Are you South West enough to be in one of the areas that has to pay extra water rates to cover tourism? Or is it Council Tax? Or have I imagined that entirely?

womanhuman · 03/04/2019 10:01

Ingurr, the sewerage is based on use too, so it will still be less with a meter.

Plus, you get a year to go back to not being metered if you want.

Tensixtysix · 03/04/2019 10:10

Had a play around with their online calculator for water usage.
Even with high usage, it still comes out £300 cheaper!
Wow!

Blimey, I'm quite grateful ours is only £202 for the year. Not metered.

Ingurr · 03/04/2019 11:47

Thanks womanhuman, I'll have a look on YW website.

VioletCharlotte · 03/04/2019 11:49

I'm on a meter and I pay £60 a month (3 adults, 3 bed terrace). I thought that was normal, but from the responses here it sounds like this is quite high.

thesunwillout · 03/04/2019 11:53

South West water, most £££ in the country.
I pay £50 a month, metered, two people. No baths, short showers, w machine on probably 3 to times a week. Small 2 bed home.

It's ridiculous

Littlemissdaredevil · 03/04/2019 11:54

I’m with South West Water which is meant the charge the most in the country and I pay £47 a month (which has gone up loads). We are a family of three but toddler DD has a bath every night and it feeling like the dishwasher and washing machine is constantly on!

Prometheus · 03/04/2019 11:57

We recently moved house and our meter readings have shot up from using around 410 litres per day (average for a family of four) to using 610 litres per day!!!!! We have no new appliances and take the same number of showers. Gutted. We must have a leak but no idea how to find out and rectify it.

Timeforabiscuit · 03/04/2019 12:00

South west water need to pay more due to the massive coastline and the low population which would spread the cost - i remember as a graduate it nearly bankrupted me and dp when we started being low paid employees. Now we are in the midlands I consider my water bill as cheap!

Really think that a water premium should be paid by visiting tourists, or that water should be nationalised - we are a small island which you can cross in a day!

DieCryHate · 03/04/2019 12:06

@Prometheus if you call your water company and explain they should be able to talk you through how to check for a leak. They can then send round leakage inspectors and get it sorted for you.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 03/04/2019 12:06

Prometheus - could your shower be more powerful? Your bath bigger?

thecatsarecrazy · 03/04/2019 12:19

We pay £60 a month s.w water

hopelessbusiness · 03/04/2019 12:31

Mine's £850 for me and 2 teenagers (Cornwall). Can't have a water meter as I have a shared supply and this is SW Water's 'preferential rate'!!
Ridiculous, and financially crippling.

MissPinkCakeyBun · 03/04/2019 12:41

Wessex water here too (Yeovil) they are the highest rates in the country.
Contact them today and get a water meter fitted ASAP. We have one and it saved a 1/3rd Confused

JuniorAsparagus · 03/04/2019 12:46

Ours is £480 (unmetered) for a four bed 2 bath house. I am not going to say where in case they read this and put ours up!

Janedoughnut · 03/04/2019 13:38

I thought you were going to say that you're with Yorkshire Water as that's similar to what I've been paying.

I had a meter fitted in February and the bloke that fitted it estimated the monthly cost would be about £30 a month as there's only 3 of us. Although 2 are soap dodging teenage boys so I'm hoping it'll be less!

Numptysod · 03/04/2019 13:47

Does that include sewage
My water and sewage is £750
