AIBU to think of you won millions, you’d still need a purpose in life to sustain mental health?

I’ve thought about it a lot, I think a year of mad spending and then I’d need to actually “do” something.

I think I’d start a dog rescue centre (ran from my massive country house!).

I’ve also thought about property development and perhaps renting out houses to struggling people to help them turn things around (teen parents, homeless etc)

I'd donate lots to women's refuge's and do a lot of charity work, whether that was overseas or in my country.

I'd get a big plot of land or join a community garden and garden a lot.

I'd go on holidays obviously Grin and see the world.

I'd do absolutely loads of things!!!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 03/04/2019 07:57

After lots of travelling I'd do voluntary work.

I did some years ago when the DC were young, before I went back to work - I loved it!

The people were lovely and from such a wide variety of backgrounds (from your retired teachers through to people on community service) , always someone interesting to talk to.

Also, as it wasn't paid work, it somehow felt stress-free even though I worked hard and gave it my all.

Plus of course the charity benefits which, in turn, means people benefitted. In my case it was a local hospice and I volunteered in the commercial side of their fundraising

reallybadinterview · 03/04/2019 07:59

I'd make anonymous donations to people randomly too. Just drop £5k in their letterbox with a note and hope it was someone who needed it. I don't know why....hahaha. I think I'd find it hard to decide where to donate to (as I'd want to donate to more than one place) and I like the idea of helping out people directly without a big fuss.

Write

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/04/2019 08:02

Plant a wood.
Create a community orchard.
Set up a small charity supporting disabled local children.
Visit family more.

HJWT · 03/04/2019 08:05

Go toy shopping for the children's hospitals and donate to cancer research without a doubt if I won big that would be first thing on the to do list!

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 03/04/2019 08:05

I'd move to Menorca, buy a specific farm there which is on the coast so has its own beach. I would live as self sufficiently as possible. So my own crops, organic meat, solar panels etc

I'd possibly run it as a retreat for friends and family who could come to switch off from the toxic modern world. Help on the farm, swim, cayak, fish, walk, whatever they wanted to do.

Make it a bit like Centreparcs with lots of self contained chalets dotted about and you have to leave your car and walk everywhere.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 03/04/2019 08:05

I would paint every single day, in my specially-built art studio.

I'd teach free art classes in the evenings and at weekends.

I'd go in to schools and offer free yoga and mindfulness therapy for children.

I'd travel and take the DC out of their schools to travel with me as frequently as possible.

I'd start a cat sanctuary next to my art studio.

Cwtches123 · 03/04/2019 08:05

I would open a residential supported living facility for adults with autism / learning difficulties. There would be a hotel and cafe run by the residents where they would be supported to have jobs.

easyandy101 · 03/04/2019 08:13

Sell our flat, buy a camper van, drive around from place to place climbing

Probably also get a massive drug habit

maddening · 03/04/2019 08:15

Have a baby

PregnantSea · 03/04/2019 08:15

Travel a lot. Learn some more instruments. Do another degree. Set up a charity and be actively involved in it. Rescue some animals and hire someone to help look after them. Write a book about being absolutely minted.

Ah... Imagine such a wonderful life.

SimonJT · 03/04/2019 08:16

I would like to do something that would support lone parents, particularly lone fathers, it’s a really lonely situation to be in, so anything that could alleviate that would be beneficial.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 03/04/2019 08:18

Spend a lot of time in my garden (I do already but I'd spend even more!).

Go travelling round the UK; so many places I haven't seen and it would mean that DH and I could take the dogs with us as well. Probably a camper van?

Be more active and spend more time exercising, cooking from scratch and taking time. All of the things that currently get squeezed out because they are time consuming.

Go back to Uni and finish my degree.

formerbabe · 03/04/2019 08:18

Go to one of those diet/fitness bootcamp things.

azulmariposa · 03/04/2019 08:21

Do my masters (planning on doing that anyway!) then go on to do a phd.
I'd be an eternal student 👩🏻‍🎓

64632K · 03/04/2019 08:23

I would buy lots of homes across the Country and house our homeless war heroes. Set up homeless dormitories to support the homeless back into housing and work.
Set up schools and safe houses for women, children and men in India and Africa

MsSquiz · 03/04/2019 08:25

I'd donate a lot to the hospice where my DM died.

I'd also open a beautiful little tea room, somewhere with a gorgeous view, where you can just while away the hours eating wonderful cake with endless tea and coffee, enjoying the peace. It was always my DM's dream to open a cafe/tea room and it became mine too growing up

malificent7 · 03/04/2019 08:26

I'd buy a bit of rainforest and set up an eco hotel somewhere like Costa Rica with tours around the forest...etc.
It would be next to the beach.

WonderTweek · 03/04/2019 08:27

Quit my job. Get husband to quit his. Move back to my home country, buy a cottage and a bit of land and potter about for the rest of my days. Obviously make sure our parents, siblings and best friends were ok too. Travel if we felt like it. Nothing too extravagant, I'd quite happily fill my days with walking outside, fishing, reading, working out, playing with my son and spending time with my husband. Maybe get a dog. Grin

evilharpy · 03/04/2019 08:31

Do a maths degree. Spend time in a Gaeltacht and become fluent in Irish.

ALemonyPea · 03/04/2019 08:31

I'd go back to school, do some part time classes, both educational and fun ones.

I'd volunteer to be a driver for a local charity that drives cancer patients too and from hospital appointments.

Squickety · 03/04/2019 08:36

I would also open a dog rescue centre. And hopefully employ people who've had a tough hand in life (e.g. homeless, ex-prisoners etc) to help get them back into work. I'd have a really nice cafe there as well.

bridgetreilly · 03/04/2019 08:58

I would buy the house I grew up in, do a massive renovation job and then open it as a retreat centre.

Ellabella989 · 03/04/2019 09:02

If I won a huge amount then I would open an animal sanctuary and would also love to open a food bank as there isn’t one in my local area even though there’s a fair amount of deprivation. I would also go back to uni and do a masters and I would love to learn another language fluently too
