AIBU to think of you won millions, you’d still need a purpose in life to sustain mental health?

I’ve thought about it a lot, I think a year of mad spending and then I’d need to actually “do” something.

I think I’d start a dog rescue centre (ran from my massive country house!).

I’ve also thought about property development and perhaps renting out houses to struggling people to help them turn things around (teen parents, homeless etc)

I would sleep an awful lot more.

And probably go on some long and very expensive holidays exploring as many countries and cultures as I possibly could.

I would take ds with me to explore and hire a tutor to educate him so he didn't miss out on the basics (maths and science mostly).
I would pay for him to learn whatever language /musical instruments /sport took his fancy, any and all of them.

I would invest a good chunk of the money so it kept growing and we could continue in this manner until we got bored of it.

Then I would retire somewhere warm and sunny with nice food by the sea, and pay for my mum to do the same. Actually no, I'd pay for my mum to do that first before everything else. And my dad.

forsucksfake · 03/04/2019 09:57

Fund research for the incurable disease my cat has. I have two ideas/leads I would like to see pursued.

Animal rescue work.

Start an ethical fashion company.

Make my sister's life very comfortable.

Travel.

Wallsbangers · 03/04/2019 10:24

Travel.
Have daily yoga lessons (when I'm not travelling obviously)
Work with charities to help provide money and opportunities
Buy our local children's centre a load of new toys
Study for an MA

bluechameleon · 03/04/2019 10:25

I would do something working with children with additional needs - perhaps run museum workshops or set up a playgroup? I'm currently a teacher in a special school and love being with the children but not all the additional work and pressure that goes with it.
My other dream is a children's bookshop with a cafe and little play area. We could do lots of story times, book clubs and activities. I could employ enough staff so I wouldn't have to work crazy hours. But I might work my way through my winnings pretty quickly this way, I know independent bookshops struggle a lot.

Coffeeonthesofa · 03/04/2019 10:27

Would need to win a lot, travel first to wherever I fancied.
Then i’d buy a big estate in Scotland with one large house and some smaller ones ( or build them). Invite family to come and live in the smaller houses so that we could be close to each other without having to live together. Open the large house as a children’s home, specialising in teenagers, obviously employing staff to run it but be involved. I would build an indoor swimming pool as it would be the one thing I would love if I had enough money, but would feel better if everyone could use it. Have horses, workshops, vegetable plots etc on site, for the young people to be involved with. Offer low rent premises, maybe barns or build some small commercial units, to small businesses that were willing to employ some of the young people once they left education.
Offer ongoing supported accommodation for the teenagers so that they don’t have to fend for themselves once they reach 18.
Train as a counsellor.

YAmILikeDis · 03/04/2019 10:35

I had to go private to get me and my DD diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. There is barely any provision on the NHS and it’s so important to me.

Lolly34h · 03/04/2019 10:37

I'd open my own little cafe with a table that homeless can sit at and be fed for free. I'd also buy at least 5 houses to help teen moms and young families.
I'd also travel with my children and show them the world because I've never been able to take them anywhere outside of the UK

Megan2018 · 03/04/2019 10:40

I'd Event - which would mean buying more horses.

I always wanted to take up Eventing seriously but never had the time or money - so if I won the lottery I'd buy myself a small string of horses, decent lorry and have a proper crack at it.

I'd also have a full season hunt subscription. The stuff of dreams for me!

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 03/04/2019 10:48

I'd hire a French/Swiss mountain guide and bag some of the harder 4000m peaks in the Alps.

I'd also finish my uni work in peace, set up a renewable energy company, take in rescue chickens, and plant a 1000 acre deciduous forest.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 03/04/2019 10:49

(the chickens could live in the forest)

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 03/04/2019 10:49

((along with some goats and donkeys))

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/04/2019 10:50

I'd not do anything with the money for a while, especially if it was a mega big win. I'd be tempted not to even tell DP for a while!

I'd send friends money anonymously. I wouldn't want them to feel beholden to me.

I'd buy as many cheap flats and houses as I could buy and equip them with dog cages, cat beds, hutches etc, then hand them over to WomansAid and MansAid. I'd want them to be 3 or 6-month respite homes for people leaving DV with pets. And also for homeless people with pets who couldn't take them into shelters.

Pinkcat231 · 03/04/2019 10:51

I would start a charity and make sure donations were actually used to help people, no huge salaries/wasting on expenses...

I’d buy homes for friends/family that can’t get on the property ladder.

Plus private healthcare and loads of travel for me if there was any money left!

Devonishome1 · 03/04/2019 10:53

I’d move house to get away from the plonker next door.

womandear · 03/04/2019 10:54

Start a Foundation in my home city/country and give money to local causes, fund uni scholarships for w/c kids from there, fund women filmakers and create a cross community sports programme. I'd have a grand old time running it.

FookMeFookYou · 03/04/2019 10:55

Quit work, rent out my house, take my kids out of school and travel the world luxury style

HalfBloodPrincess · 03/04/2019 10:55

I’d open an autism assessment centre and fund as many children on the nhs waiting list as I could.

PhilomenaButterfly · 03/04/2019 10:55

Shop. Eat.

Thatsnotmyotter · 03/04/2019 10:56

Run triathlon training camps and pregnancy and postnatal exercise classes/retreats from a lovely farmhouse.

I'd also seriously consider fostering.

womandear · 03/04/2019 10:57

I'd also fund supported housing or extended stay at foster parents for kids who leave care at 18 and are thrown into the world on their own til they're 25.

Idontbloodybelieveit · 03/04/2019 10:57

Easy. I'd buy a Ferrari , a speedboat and a helicopter and probably waste the rest

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/04/2019 11:00

I would sell everything and move into a hotel with a nice view of the Pacific then carry on my business in a more amenable location.

When I got board I would move hotels or move countries and start again there

BonnesVacances · 03/04/2019 11:00

I'd renovate crumbling houses that weren't economical to renovate. I'd also set up a charity to provide practical support for people with severe ME, like Macmillan but not just for those with cancer.

Hotterthanahotthing · 03/04/2019 11:01

Finally decide where Inthe country I would like to live with the limits off.
Do sums, howuch income do I need? How to invest it to get that income and what charities do I give the excess to.
Stop worrying about my DDS future.
Not tell anyone.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 03/04/2019 11:05

I fantasise about this all the time! I would not tell a soul till the money was in my account, then I'd put £1,000,000 (or maybe £10m) into my mum's bank account, and I'd be like 'Mum is it OK to borrow some money?' and she'd open her banking app and I'd watch her shit herself

and hopefully not have a heart attack
