paying postage for boden returns.

I've just returned some boden stuff from the Sale - some for a refund, some for an exchange. I had to pay £9.35 to return them and the cost of delivery was £4.00 also. I'll probably be charged postage again for the exchanges. Next don't charge that much!
Not pleased.

Make sure if you ever buy anything from Boden that's on a "free returns" promo (e.g. viw Mumsnet!) that you save the returns label; then you can return other stuff for free using the old labels. I've never paid for returns doing it this way, and the delivery is usually free too!

Spockster · 12/07/2007 12:55

...and I don't THINK you pay delivery charge for exchanges, even sale ones...

cornsilk · 12/07/2007 13:00

Excellent tip Spockster!

Companies are allowed to make you pay returns postage if their terms on the site say so (as long as the goods were not defective).

LadyMacbeth · 12/07/2007 13:32

I agree that it's pretty rubbish having to pay for returns, especially when it's a mail-order company that charges a lot for its clothes, e.g. Boden.

I ordered a dress the other day from Debenhams in the Sale... it was too big so they arranged for a courier to collect it and for another to be sent out - at no extra cost! I was really impressed by their efficiency.

DobbyMOO · 12/07/2007 14:09

I queried this with Boden last year and they said their clothes are so heavily discounted at sales time that they can't afford to pay return postage. My feeling is that if they didn't send me about 10 copies of the same farking catalogue every season they would be able to afford to! Once bitten twice shy - I only order what I'm 99% certain I will keep it at sale time, and have been known to order stuff pre-sale when they're doing free delivery and free returns so i know whether it will fit me and re-order once the sale starts

SimplySparkling · 12/07/2007 15:01

I have done that too, cornsilk. I have three tops to return and the sailor skirt that I ordered. The double layer white top looked cheap and nasty. The two vest tops were very disappointing. The armhole gaped hugely at the front, pointing sideways in a triangular fashion. Not a good look. The vest tops I had a few years ago were fab. I sent back a white t-shirt some months ago as I hoped that would have been as good as ones I'd bought previously. Not so. You could see Boden written inside the garment on the back through the fabric. I wrote on the returns label that the garment would not look out of place on a market stall. I should apologise to market stall holders everywhere, I'm sure. Sorry.

Anyone else disappointed with the quality of the items received? Dd loves most of hers which is something.

cornsilk · 12/07/2007 16:00

Yes I wasn't blown away by the quality either. I doubt I'll be ordering stuff from the sale next year.

I don't think I'll be buying for myself from Boden again. I spoke to a friend earlier who had bought 3 skirts, some tops and a pair of shoes and she has sent most of it back. It cost her £11. She thought the quality was poor and she is a regular customer. I think I'll ring them to register my displeasure and ask them to take me off the mailing list.

Okay. I live in the sticks so need mail order clothes company recommendations. Any suggestions?

P.S. Sorry for the hijack.

We have regular photoshoots in our house (we rent it out as a location) and the catalogue shoots are always such a con. The clothes are pinned back to within an inch of their lives and altered in lots of other ways. The stylists are always complainng about what a dreadful cut the clothes are. If something can't look good on a size 10 6ft tall model without major alteration then what hope does the average person have?.

chocolatedot That's why my skirt looked nothing like the photo in the catalogue!

DoubleBluff · 13/07/2007 12:51

Chocolate dot you must have a fab house...

brimfull · 13/07/2007 13:06

chocolate dot-dp tell us more, are the models all foreign with real poncey names?

cazzybabs · 13/07/2007 13:09

WOW chocolodot - is your house by the sea...it is all very trendy inside and no doubt tidy!

chocolatedot · 13/07/2007 14:26

Not really - it's big, rambly and full of original unpainted and crumbling panelling. The entire top floor is a disused artists studio which we could never afford to do up and then one day a friend who is a photographer happened to see it and proclaimed it to be the perfect backdrop for fashion photography (and lads mags stuff!).

It really gets on my goat though the manipulations of the clothes, particularly for catalogues. They are usually pinned to such an extent that the model is literally unable to move once they have it looking like they want it. My advice is never to buy anything, particualrly jackets, that look like that they are really sharply tailored. Also, the mmoedls are usually ludicrously young. Even if the clothes are aimed at the more meture woman, the models are gnerally 16 or 17. My 7 year old always insists they play ball games with him in the garden.

DoubleBluff · 13/07/2007 14:56

Wow, do you make them snacks or do they just drink wate and eat lettuce?

ApuNahasapeemapetilon · 13/07/2007 15:04
