Not as in won the lottery but as in it wouldn’t change your world beyond adult company and a bit of a life outside the house ?

Piano

Speaking for myself.

A small inheritance, saving a bit from when I did work, making a bit from moving up the property ladder, and my dh works.
We have low outgoings and are asset rich, low income.
Kids mostly grown up, and have gd.
We aren't Baby boomers, not that it should matter.

fblake · 02/04/2019 20:35

I would, but part time and it would have to be something I enjoy (say in a nursery or something). X

sausagepastapot · 02/04/2019 20:37

Yes I would, being at home all the time would drive me bonkers. I am self employed and love my job.

Would obviously reduce my hours massively though!

92AP · 02/04/2019 20:37

No, but id have to do something. I like baking so would probably just do a little part time home bakery thing.

Laura221 · 02/04/2019 20:37

I don't have too and I do work. I enjoy it.

I wouldn't work where I am now, no. But I would have to do something.

MissMogwai · 02/04/2019 20:41

Nope, I would be out of my current job like a bloody shot.

Although I'd want to do something a couple of days a week, such as studying or volunteering. The rest of the time I'd swan about like Lady Muck Grin

pouraglasshalffull · 02/04/2019 20:42

Yes, but I'd drop down to part time

Jessgalinda · 02/04/2019 20:42

What's kind of rely mean?

Actually, it doesnt matter.

No, I wouldn't depend on someone else for my sole income.

ginyogarepeat · 02/04/2019 20:42

No. But would definitely volunteer for a charity that's close to my heart a couple of days a week.

HarrysOwl · 02/04/2019 20:44

OP, I'm guessing it's rental property income? Not that it matters really!

ASauvignonADay · 02/04/2019 20:46

Yes. 100%
I love work and find it hugely fulfilling

upinastar · 02/04/2019 20:46

I would still work. I love my job though. If I was in a job I didnt love I could quite happily stay at home and not work as I enjoy my spare time too.

Kim82 · 02/04/2019 20:47

There is no chance in hell that I would work if I didn’t have to. I have done a few stints at not working when the dc were younger and I loved it - I had a full 16 months with all the dc at school before my youngest was born when I was at home and didn’t get bored at all. I’m back to working 5 days a week now and that’s my life until retirement in 28 years time. 😭

SimonJT · 02/04/2019 20:49

I would leave my current job, but I would still work, not only do I need the structure for my mental health, it is also important to teach my son the importance of hard work.

I once took seven months out of work to travel on my then boyfriends tour, while it was great to have time together, the lack of structure was awful.

AnyFucker · 02/04/2019 20:50

I could retire this year but I won't. I am going to take "flexible" retirement instead. I love my job. It gives me satisfaction and is a big part of my identity. I have learned so much from it, and still do every day.

Groovee · 02/04/2019 20:51

Yes. I love my job and the joy it brings me. Plus the idea of being at home with dh fills me with dread.

Greenlegobox · 02/04/2019 20:52

My mother was a SAHM. Everyone would have been better off if she was working. We were bored at home and she was very frustrated and lonely. And angry. Our relationship has never recovered.

chandylier · 02/04/2019 20:52

Oh, I can only afford it because my husband died

BirdieInTheHand · 02/04/2019 20:53

We could survive happily on my DHs salary but I like the extra money my job brings in (especially because it's several times what he earns).

I'm not interested in having to budget, skip holidays, worry about the DCs future.

mrsm43s · 02/04/2019 20:53

Hmm, depends on circumstance.
Didn't need to, but had to live frugally without a job - I'd work
Didn't need to, but could be supported by DH - I'd work and retain financial independence (part-time hours, but still keeping skills up to date).
Didn't need to as financially independent - family money/lottery win/investment portfolio/reached a stage in life with good pension and savings and could retire early etc - No, I wouldn't.

BirdieInTheHand · 02/04/2019 20:54

I also enjoy the work and the people but mostly, frankly, I enjoy the financial rewards.

SurgeHopper · 02/04/2019 20:55

Not a feckin chance matey

gubbsywubbsy · 02/04/2019 20:56

I don't and I do ... dh has a great job but I get bored . I've just started a minimum wage school hours job and a lot of my friends can't understand why .. there is only a Certain amount of coffee mornings and cleaning etc you can do before you go stir crazy .
