to ask if you would do this commute?

22 mile drive (each way).

Is this too much? Some people are telling me not to think about it, as it would wear my car out quickly. I currently drive 15 miles (30 mile round trip) a day.

I do a 26 miles each way. Good run is under an hour more normal is an hour and 10 there, an hour and 5 home. You have to be zen about it, but actually doesn't other me. I chose to move out if my home city to be with DP.

Depends on traffic, one way for me 22 miles takes 30 minutes, opposite direction and less than 22 miles takes more than an hour

I do that every day. Pretty normal commute where I live. Cars are meant to be driven!

I do 35, takes 45 min, and is totally fine.

Depends on traffic, and what type of roads, I do 30 miles each way but all dual carriageway and takes about 40 mins on a normal day. If I had to travel in rush hour or across a city then I wouldn’t want to do it

22 miles is literally nothing. My commute is 6 miles each way but I wouldn't bat an eyelid at 22 miles. My max would be 50 miles each way.

Always done 30 one way, takes anything from 50 to 90 mins. Do find it stressful though.

I would do that without a thought if it was a good route. If it's 22m and takes 30 mins no problem, if it's 22m and takes 90mins (as it would near London) then no chance.

It means around 10,000 miles a year in mileage but that is only 3,000 more than you're doing at the moment. So the 3,000 is negligible if you're not worried about mileage right now, if there was a job 3 miles away then maybe it would be a consideration though.

Other considerations:

1. is there a chance for more flexible working from home which would mean you're in less
2. How long would you like to stay in the role (how much do you want the job)?
3. Is there anything better that you'd rather hold out for?

Why would it wear your car out? Do you only drive in first gear?

Agree with poster above - if it's a nice run no probs. Wouldn't want to do it through a city!

I do 20 miles every day, good traffic its less than 40 mins, bad traffic around an hour and a half max. It's not too bad, pretty much the only peace I get to myself!

This has to be a joke. I have commuted 75+ miles each way at times. My school run is a 12 mile round trip, which I do at least twice a day, sometimes more often.

Unless you live on the Isle of Man. In which case, according to my Manx friend, anything over 20 miles needs an overnight stay.

I do 80m round trip.

22 miles is about the same distance as my town to my county town and a lot of people in my town do that commute every day

I do 28 each way so around an hour and a half each day. I do car share which eases it.

I personally wouldn’t. I turned a job down in the next city (about 25 miles) as I felt like it would impact on my children too much. They offered me the job but based in the building 10 mins away instead so I was lucky I guess! The few times I’ve headed up to the other place I’ve experienced the stress of the traffic and getting into the city and I’m so glad I didn’t go for it for that reason too!

52 mile round trip for me. No problem at all.

I lived in the USA. 22 miles is considered just around the corner
But seriously depends on the types of roads and how heavy the traffic is.
22 miles sitting in gridlock on the motorway or doing winding country roads in the dark is beyond what I would be able to manage.
I don't see much difference in terms of wearing your car out.

I do double that each way...I'd be delighted with a 22 mile commute.

My DS will be going to a secondary school with a longer commute.

Depends on the journey. We live about that far from central London-there’s no way I’d want to drive into central London every day!

22 miles on straightforward clearish roads with plenty of parking the other end is a different matter.
