Not in my rooms with carpet just bathroom.
Only if they have heels on.
I got some new flooring about 8 weeks ago and every time before a night out my friends go in with heels on ...I've noticed heel marks all over the floor now :-(
Aibu to say can you take the heels off?

That photo is awful. I'd be fuming.

EscapeAnywhere · 01/04/2019 17:23

Given that I'm not at all offended

Keep telling me how not offended you are and how stupid I am. It adds so much thread value. Grin

doIreallyneedto · 01/04/2019 17:26

@billybobandsue - it is only a few friends or friends of friends who gather at mine for drinks before going out

If they're friends and you point out the damage already caused, I'm sure they won't mind. I originally thought you were talking about black marks that rub off.

Alsohuman · 01/04/2019 17:26

Fucking hell @Escape, you could have a row in an empty room.

Personally I don't want to look at anyones feet or smell them. Neither would I wish to catch anything.

I had thought it's shoes off houses that don't clean as much as they won't feel it's dirty whilst shoes on will clean regularly. Interesting how we all perceive others.

I think the etiquette should be to let your guests know if you insist on shoes off.

doIreallyneedto · 01/04/2019 17:31

I never said you were stupid. Difficulty understanding words or reading does not necessarily equate to stupidity.

As you seem determined to ascribe feelings and emotions to me that I don't have, I was merely clarifing the meaning of the words I used.

user9000 · 01/04/2019 17:33

Just ask them to not wear them in the bathroom. If they get in a huff about it they aren't very nice.

EscapeAnywhere · 01/04/2019 17:34

@doIreallyneedto great. Let's be friends.

I promise I won't take my shoes off if I visit.

Sunonthepatio · 01/04/2019 17:35

It is your house, so your rules. Of course YANBU.

user9000 · 01/04/2019 17:36

These threads are always very strange. As a non-UKer I have never had anyone not take off their shoes at the door. I think most countries are like that?

I also don't understand why UK houses have no built in closets but that's a discussion for another day!

SilverySurfer · 01/04/2019 17:42

What if member of family has a pee, misses the bowl, you don't realise and insist on visitors taking off their shoes to enter the hallowed halls of your bathroom? Not a chance.

What is the new flooring? If it can be damaged by a person briefly entering and leaving, you have bought crap flooring.

doIreallyneedto · 01/04/2019 17:42

@EscapeAnywhere - great. Let's be friends. I promise I won't take my shoes off if I visit.

Grand. And I'll take mine off if I visit you.

doIreallyneedto · 01/04/2019 17:43

And just to clarify, clarifing should be clarifying 😊

PatchworkGirl · 01/04/2019 17:47

I go barefoot outside when I get the chance. I usually have shoes with me though.

I wonder what shoes off people would ask me to do if they knew this...

Shoes on here unless you want to take them off - I don't mind either way. Because our floors are for walking on (and uncarpeted).

Tunnockswafer · 01/04/2019 17:50

That looks like one person whose heel has worn through - maybe a wee nail sticking out.

doIreallyneedto · 01/04/2019 17:50

@PatchworkGirl - I wonder what shoes off people would ask me to do if they knew this...

That could cause a very messy head explosion 😱

PatchworkGirl · 01/04/2019 17:51

Back to the point of the thread - I wouldn't mind at all if I was asked to remove shoes from practical reasons (floor damage). Though in this case I would wonder (inwardly) why you bought flooring that can't stand up to being walked on. Surely looks come second to function with flooring?

PatchworkGirl · 01/04/2019 17:52

@doIreallyneedto I know! I'm tempted to start a thread about it, just for fun...

Jenb2104 · 01/04/2019 17:53

I don't allow shoes upstairs at all so I think you're perfectly reasonable to ask. At the end of the day it's your house, so your rules.

Tunnockswafer · 01/04/2019 17:54

Cover the floor with bath mats when your high heeled friends are due around.

DemelzaPoldarksshinerrefiner · 01/04/2019 17:59

Patchwork you’d be given a new pair of socks to wear at mine. I live by a Cornish beach - i’m ready for awkward buggers ! 👡 Grin

moofolk · 01/04/2019 18:00

Shoes off at the door.

moofolk · 01/04/2019 18:01
  • Run away OP, run like the wind whilst there's still time!!

Or pick something less controversial to ask about; maybe Israel/ Palestine ?*

Or toilet brushes?
