to spend my money on this?

I hate my teeth. I've always hated my teeth. I've just left an emotionally abusive relationship and am going through the 'let's reinvent myself' stage. I am looking to have composite bonds put on my top and bottom teeth costing about £1800. Once the house is sold I'll be receiving around £6000. I want to put this towards buying my own place, but really, really want my teeth done...

Do I:

A) get my teeth done and continue saving

Or

B) just put it in savings and try and buy my own place a little sooner?

I have a 5 month old son and whilst we have a place to live and a rather lovely roof over our heads, it's hard to put my cosmetic wants first in this situation...

AIBU to get my teeth done?

I would put the money into the house then pay your dental work on finance. Most places offer this so you could have both the house and the teeth!

Geminijes · 29/03/2019 12:16

Spend it on your teeth!

I have a composite bond on my two front teeth as they were slightly chipped and I was very conscious of them. The dentist did a fantastic job and I have never regretted the cost.

It's teeth from me too! It will be absolutely life-enhancing. Imagine looking into your mirror and cracking a huge smile - and feeling joyful!!

If you can get a zero interest credit card deal you could put the cost on there & not dip into the savings.......

Nurseornot · 29/03/2019 16:00

Do you have savings for emergencies? I would definitely prioritise that.

I would also suggest house then teeth. Houses are assets, and I remember the price of houses going up at an insane pace where we lived when moving from London to Essex. The initial houses we could afford, we could not afford in the matter of months. Right now would be a good time to buy because all the uncertainty around Brexit has made houses stagnate, although this time won't last long and the house prices will shoot up again. You may find you can afford much less of a house in 6 months time by the time you save the money. Your friends may also get annoyed eventually with you being there, every relationship has its tipping point imo. They may think you could afford doing your teeth and getting your house naively, not thinking that you doing this cosmetic work will force you to stay at their house much longer. I wouldn't risk it.

I had cosmetic dental work and I was able to pay per month after putting down a large deposit upfront- is this an option for you? Might help spread the cost

CSIblonde · 29/03/2019 16:06

I paid £500 deposit then the rest in monthly installments for my teeth with Smilepod. Do it.

ILoveBray · 29/03/2019 18:15

OP do your teeth, I just had composites on my and I'm so pleased with them and wish I had done them sooner (have included a picture, my teeth were a mess before!)

How many teeth are you doing? I did 4 and it only cost £340. £1.8k seems really expensive!

AnnabelleLecter · 30/03/2019 09:29

ilovebray your teeth look lovely.

waterbunnies · 30/03/2019 12:40

@ILoveBray I was quoted for all visible upper and lower teeth, so about 15-20 teeth but may be less as haven't had the consultation yet. Your teeth look ace! They're so straight. I'd love teeth like yours 😥

I'd get my teeth done. It'll help your confidence hugely.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 30/03/2019 13:07

Get your teeth done on interest free credit and continue to save.

Meandmetoo · 30/03/2019 13:11

Getting my DC a stable home of their own as soon as possible would come first over something cosmetic. 100%

At a push, I'd go for your suggestion of getting a couple done, but....I dunno........ wouldn't feel right to me or very responsible. For me it's not much different to hearing that someone has blown money on a car when their home is full of damp/mould etc.

ILoveBray · 30/03/2019 13:20

waterbunnies Ahh OK that works out about right then if you're having more. It could be that you end up having less as the top 6-8 teeth are most seen when we smile, the lower teeth aren't as important. I decided not to do my lower teeth to keep costs down as they can't really be seen.

I would still say do it though. I am so happy with the results and annoyed at myself that I spent so long unhappy with an aspect of myself I could change so easily.

AnnabelleLecter Thank you!
