To have a sick day tomorrow (car related)

Hi. We're a 1 car family and rely heavily on my car and I'm the only one able to drive. Passed my MOT 2 days ago. Car wasn't pulling right and engine management light was showing orange. That cleared after MOT, service and £480 lighter but its still not pulling right. It feels really heavy and no power.

We rely heavily as my son goes to special school and its not particularly close. I promised my youngest son we would go football this weekend. 90 miles one way. Looks like will have to catch 2 trains now if we do go.

I'm pissed that it "passed" it's MOT (I have the certificate) I don't want to go back to where it came from I think it needs a Vauxhall specialist but the closest is 12 miles away which will mean no work if I go tomorrow.

AIBU to be pissed about my car and have a sick day.

YABU to ring in sick because of that.

Mot is literally only to check that it's safe to be on the road. It will not diagnose faults. YABU there.

Surely it's an annual leave/ unpaid leave day rather than a sick day?

I don't think i would take a sick day but I'm just pissed at the minute. We rely heavily on the car. If not I'll have to get it in Monday at a specialist. I can't exactly drive it 180 miles round trip Saturday with my 4YO

MOT is just a check of visible parts like brakes, lights etc, not a diagnostic fault find I am afraid.

Either way, I wouldn’t pull a sickie if that’s what you mean, no. Could you ask for a half day AL?

It's a sick day to sort my sons transport out. Its not like I could nip out and drop it off really as its too much time away from site as I'm on 6-2 tomorrow. Ideally want the car back by Saturday but only a Vauxhall specialist could do that I imagine at short notice. I have no annual leave days left this year (April-April)

The job of an MOT isn't to diagnose faults.

Local garage should be able to diagnose it? I drop I e die. The night before and leave the key in a secure keysafe my garage has.

No hols left, then unpaid leave, that's what I'd have to do. YABU to take a sickie, I do sympathise about the difficulty of it all, but if we all threw a sickie in similar circumstances, it'd be v v unfair on colleagues.... Sorry!

You are not sick so you can't take a sick day. It would need to be unpaid leave.

Can't you book the car into the garage after you finish at 2? Also how does your son get home if if you're in work?

Just to add, if it is diesel google whether it might be the egr valve, especially if you don't do a lot of motorway or long distance driving. They can get stuck with carbon which can be cleared sometimes just by hard driving or sometimes with fuel additive (£20 ish). It will make for a sluggish car that will randomly lose all power.

My ford did this a few weeks ago, I'd put my foot to the floor to accelate and it would do it soooooo slowly and would lose acceleration randomly, I drove like it for 2 weeks then took it in on my 2 days off to be fixed, back within a day as it was the glow plugs

How do you know it needs to go to a specialist? What did the MOT garage say about the fault?
