To be offended by valeters?

I’m feeling a bit offended.
Saw an offer on Facebook last minute this morning for a valeting slot at 9am.
Saw this right at the last minute and did the school run and dropped it to the valeting place.
Was due to pay £50 instead of £80 for a full valet in and out.
They called me to ask me to collect the car as they refused to do the valet because there were toys in the car and car seats on the back seat and a buggy in the boot.
They said that their job is not to pick up things in the footwell and they just hoover the floor, so any toys on the floor would get hoovered up?
I would say there was maybe 10-15 little toys on the floor, think happy meal toys, a few books, a few comforters that the kids like on long journeys.
I feel like an absolute minger now, and that they think my car is too dirty to clean.
They said they can take car seats out if necessary (as I said how was I meant to walk 2 miles home with 3 car seats and a toddler), but still insist that they won’t pick anything up off of the floor.
Is this common practise? I’m sending my husband to collect the car, as I’m too embarrassed to go myself.
The man on the phone sounded a bit awkward and said it was too cluttered to clean so I need to book it in again when it’s empty.
I’m thinking that for £50 they didn’t want the challenge of my car. Bet I wouldn’t have been turned away if I was paying the full £80.

£50! Wow. We pay £20 here for a full valet. Would always pick the rubbish up and empty the boot though.

Steamedbadger · 28/03/2019 13:28

Apart from anything else, if they do the picking up they are are opening themselves to accusations of losing, breaking or even stealing things (yes I know you're talking about McDonalds toys etc but suspect it's their general rule)..

purpleboy · 28/03/2019 13:28

That's expensive, I pay £15 in and out for a full valet!

Baxdream · 28/03/2019 13:28

Let's not forget a lot of cheaper valet places are staffed by children and adults being exploited

littlejellybaby · 28/03/2019 13:28

It’s not a tip though. It was approx 10 little plastic toys. It would take less than 60 seconds to pop them in a carrier bag and carry on.
There’s no food trodden into the carpet, or raisins stuck to the floor. There’s no crisp packets, or sweet wrappers.
It was 10 or so little plastic toys!

£50 is expensive! Hence thinking spending 60 seconds picking up toys would not be a biggy.

£50 is expensive and they could easily just pop the toys in a bag. I wouldn't expect there to be big bulky bags in there but a few toys would take 2 minutes to pick up and should be no trouble for that price.

OP: AIBU?
Everyone: yes
OP: NO IM NOT THE OTHER PLACE BLAH BLAH BLAH

Hiddenaspie1973 · 28/03/2019 13:32

Its like having a cleaner at home.
You need to pick up stuff before they clean.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 28/03/2019 13:32

And is it "10 -15", "approx 10" or "10 or so" toys?

littlejellybaby · 28/03/2019 13:32

When my husband gets back later I am going to time exactly how long it would take to put them in a carrier bag.
Even at 2 seconds a toy that’s only 40 seconds.
I just think it’s a cop out and for the discount price they couldn’t be arsed to do it.
I can almost picture what is on the floor.
It’s 2 toy trains, a bus, a car, 2 bing books, a toy telephone, 3 comforters and probably 3 happy meal toys from the weekend.

littlejellybaby · 28/03/2019 13:33

Well I’ve just counted and it’s 13 items! For the PP who said I was being vague!

Unanimously agreed that YABU, and yet you still think you're in the right.

littlejellybaby · 28/03/2019 13:35

Not unanimous. There’s at least 2 people who would expect toys to be picked up!

SparklyMagpie · 28/03/2019 13:36

If It would have taken then 60 seconds to pick and bag up then why on earth did you not do it

ZeroFuchsGiven · 28/03/2019 13:38

Of Course YABU and I think you are minimising how much crap you have left in the car.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 28/03/2019 13:39

Your usual company sound lovely but an exception to the norm. I'd empty my car for a valet service, you're rather impeding them otherwise. It is like tidying up for your cleaner.

"Even at 2 seconds a toy that’s only 40 seconds. "

Then why couldn't you do it?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 28/03/2019 13:43

13 toys PLUS books PLUS comforters. That's a shitload.

BlueJava · 28/03/2019 13:45

YABU, I always empty our car of items such as large bits of rubbish, books, toys, etc. Otherwise how are they meant to know whether it's actually rubbish or not? I leave it empty to give them a clean sweep through. Price sounds reasonable too.

buzzbobbly · 28/03/2019 13:45

Is this actual valeting or just the guys in the corner of DIY store and supermarket car parks?

The former I'd expect them to scoop up loose toys; the latter, no.

hanahsaunt · 28/03/2019 13:46

We have a monthly car valet service that comes to our office car park. It is absolutely your responsibility to leave everything clear, ready to clean. Given mine don't do the boot, it's not a big deal to pop car seats etc in there.

Bringbackthestripes · 28/03/2019 13:47

Not unanimous. There’s at least 2 people who would expect toys to be picked up!

havingtochangeusernameagain · 28/03/2019 13:48

OP I'm with you. £50 and they couldn't move a few toys?

We've had our car valeted locally for about £15. And they did a really good job. Our car was tidy so they could just clean it but I think for another £35 they could move a few things out of the way.

Bet you're the type to leave shit smears for the cleaner to sort too

What a truly offensive, nasty comment. And for the record, I don't have a cleaner. I clean my own rubbish up. Do you like hiding behind internet anonymity?
