The speaker of the House of Commons has said today that he went to meet some schoolchildren and 'positively salivated over the experience'
AIBU to think this is entirely inappropriate? And gross?

I don't like the fella but he doesn't really eat children.

I've seen Bercow. He's much too small to eat a whole adult which is why he's limited to snacking on children.

What an extremely odd way of putting it. I assume he's saying he's looking forward to the experience, rather than he's hoping they'll be served up for lunch.

I think if you had to spend all day every day keeping order in Parliament the idea of half an hour with some children would make you positively delirious with joy and ecstasy. Which is undoubtedly what he meant.

He always uses unnecessarily flowery language - and I think that's what he was doing here. Innapropriate - possibly - but I'd say accidentally so.

I work with young people & if a colleague said this we'd be concerned.

It's the House of Commons. I think we should be concerned about all of them tbh.

I heard this. He wasn't salivating about meeting the children but about visiting the MP's constituency where he met the kids. The MP had complained about 2 Ministers visiting the MP's constituency without having the courtesy to inform him. The Speaker spoke about his visit. He used "salivating" as a lighthearted IMHO way of expressing how much he enjoyed the visit.

Because I think we all know what you're trying to get at and you're the one making it inappropriate.

But people say their DC are 'scrumptious', 'delicious', and 'ooh, I could eat them up'. Admittedly, it does make me think about cannibalism but I don't see how this is any different.
