Salivating over meeting children-gross

poshme · 27/03/2019 14:05

The speaker of the House of Commons has said today that he went to meet some schoolchildren and 'positively salivated over the experience'
AIBU to think this is entirely inappropriate? And gross?

I don't like the fella but he doesn't really eat children.

lexiconmistress · 27/03/2019 14:18

I've seen Bercow. He's much too small to eat a whole adult which is why he's limited to snacking on children.

pigsDOfly · 27/03/2019 14:22

What an extremely odd way of putting it. I assume he's saying he's looking forward to the experience, rather than he's hoping they'll be served up for lunch.

Whatever, he's an odious little man anyway.

EstrellaDamn · 27/03/2019 14:22

Only if you're looking to sexualise what was meant as an innocent statement Confused

Chouetted · 27/03/2019 14:24

I like children myself but couldn't eat a whole one.

He didn't mean it seriously!

BlackSatinDancer · 27/03/2019 14:28

That was very unfortunate terminology to use. I bet he's mortified.

onalongsabbatical · 27/03/2019 14:46

I think if you had to spend all day every day keeping order in Parliament the idea of half an hour with some children would make you positively delirious with joy and ecstasy. Which is undoubtedly what he meant.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 27/03/2019 14:50

What a fantastic response !

NCforthis2019 · 27/03/2019 14:54

Wtf?! What is wrong with you that your sexualising it?! Get a grip op. You know what he meant - not the best choice of words but I find you talking about it even stranger.

wigglypiggly · 27/03/2019 14:55

I think he was just joking, why do people always have to see something badConfused

AdamNichol · 27/03/2019 14:57

Language gap between the plebs and the parliamentists

DarlingNikita · 27/03/2019 15:13

Oh, he's just gushing a bit and trying to be funny at the same time. Fuss about nothing.

CatCatDog · 27/03/2019 15:14

He didn't salivate and masticate!

KurriKurri · 27/03/2019 15:18

He always uses unnecessarily flowery language - and I think that's what he was doing here. Innapropriate - possibly - but I'd say accidentally so.
If your job is essentially roaring, braying and making other upper class noises (and controlling other noise makers) then you probably start spouting all sorts of shit.

HeritageCarrot · 27/03/2019 15:18

He’s a strange little chap

poshme · 27/03/2019 15:20

I don't think talking about it is strange. I think it was an inappropriate thing to say.
I work with young people & if a colleague said this we'd be concerned.

OP posts:
ineedaknittedhat · 27/03/2019 15:23

It's the House of Commons. I think we should be concerned about all of them tbh.

StitchingMoss · 27/03/2019 15:23

I work with children too but this is nothing to get worked up about Hmm.

Or are you trying to claim he’s a paedophile?

ShitAtScarbble · 27/03/2019 15:28

What very peculiar thought processes you have OP. Care to explain exactly how you made the leap? Because to my way of thinking yours is extremely unhealthy.

RevokeRemainRebuild · 27/03/2019 15:28

I heard this. He wasn't salivating about meeting the children but about visiting the MP's constituency where he met the kids. The MP had complained about 2 Ministers visiting the MP's constituency without having the courtesy to inform him. The Speaker spoke about his visit. He used "salivating" as a lighthearted IMHO way of expressing how much he enjoyed the visit.

TheQueef · 27/03/2019 15:28

What does salivate mean to you Poshme ?

Beeziekn33ze · 27/03/2019 15:29

OP - unecessary oxygen of publicity

user1473878824 · 27/03/2019 15:31

Please explain exactly why it's 'inappropriate'?

Because I think we all know what you're trying to get at and you're the one making it inappropriate.

Klopptimist · 27/03/2019 15:35

But people say their DC are 'scrumptious', 'delicious', and 'ooh, I could eat them up'. Admittedly, it does make me think about cannibalism but I don't see how this is any different.

ColeHawlins · 27/03/2019 15:37

Bizarre thing to say.
