Salivating over meeting children-gross

The speaker of the House of Commons has said today that he went to meet some schoolchildren and 'positively salivated over the experience'
AIBU to think this is entirely inappropriate? And gross?

Have you seen the clip of him actually saying it? When you see the clip it’s pretty clear that he’s taking the piss out of the MP who was complaining.

Considering the official record of Parliament is Hansard, which, famously, is not an archive of video footage, maybe he should tone down the silliness?

Or maybe there's nothing wrong with the odd moment of levity in political public life? Or is it the only profession in which any form of banter or humour is disallowed? How odd.

I went to the House of Commons with DS and his class when he was in Year 6 and we happened to be there when the Speaker passed through on his way to the afternoon session. The guide moved us to the front as he said Bercow is a huge proponent of children going to the House and taking an interest in politics. He dud certainly nod and smile towards us.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 27/03/2019 22:27

What I'm essentially saying I guess, is that he likes children and feels its important to foster an interest in politics, not that there's any impropriety.

Not this week. I've lost all my sense of humour about Parliament this week.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 27/03/2019 22:27

Damn you autocorrect, and your mockery of spelling and punctuation!

EstrellaDamn · 27/03/2019 22:33

Oh me too @ColeHawlins me too. But I actually think Bercow has been quite marvellous through this whole hellish period.

Not to the point of salivating but marvellous none the less. Wink

EstrellaDamn · 27/03/2019 22:35

That's great @DanielRicciardosSmile

If there's ever been a time where we need to encourage an interest in politics from kids of even very unlikely backgrounds it's now. And by unlikely I basically mean NOT ETON.
