Moved to the US from the UK. Love it here and wouldn’t move back but there’s quite a lot I miss! Battered sausage, chips & curry sauce is a constant craving. I miss pubs, fry ups and the National trust. I’m also sad that I now can’t join the WI Grin

Where did you move to & what do you miss?

OP posts:

I'm in London. There is no battered haggis anywhere.

SadSadSad

It’s not a geographical thing but now I am wife and mum, I miss being mummied, looked after and not having to lift a finger. I’m so tired!

PenCreed · 26/03/2019 15:54

Also in London. Soft water, views of hills and people knowing what I mean by the all-inclusive term “juice”.

NeverHadANickname · 26/03/2019 15:55

I'm in the same as you op and miss those also. As well as things like pasties, can't get nice savoury pastry most places, and also beef crisps.

BlythesEyes · 26/03/2019 15:58

I'm on holiday ...I'm missing toast

Chocolateisfab · 26/03/2019 15:59

Local accent isn't Geordie and my dc talk awful!! Missing my lingo!!

MinesaBottle · 26/03/2019 18:04

The sea!! The river just isn’t the same (am in London). Soft floury baps. Being able to walk everywhere.

Stinkytoe · 26/03/2019 18:07

I moved to Singapore, I also missed battered sausage and chips and Yorkshire puddings and Fanta that wasn’t toxic orange coloured.

Needadvices · 26/03/2019 18:17

I m in the uk . I miss proper summers, vegetable and fruits that taste of something, people not ignoring you when you try to start a conversation at the playground or something, decent seasides, mountains, seeing the kids play with other kids at the playground instead of having all the other kids being followed step by step by their parents, families out and about after 5 pm, Gp s that give the impression of knowing anything about medicine ....are just a few i can think of.

Snuffalo · 26/03/2019 18:19

@needadvices what paradise are you from, then?

Needadvices · 26/03/2019 18:22

Where all of the above is normal 😁 no need to get offended, my country is not perfect and neither is the uk

Sweetbabycheezits · 26/03/2019 18:25

Critter we should arrange a mail swap! 😁 I'm an American in the UK. I've been here years and years, so I don't miss much anymore, but:
I miss cheezits, triscuits and massive bags of crisps. Movie theatre popcorn with TONS of butter. Thanksgiving, bologna, and proper good coffee.
I miss stores like WalMart and Target...the leaders in selling huge amounts of crap you didn't know you needed!😂
And of course, my family 😁

chemenger · 26/03/2019 18:25

I miss Branson Pickle, but hopefully some is arriving this afternoon. Also chip shop fish and chips, full size crackers and M&S ready meals. Was excited to find Worcestershire sauce only to find it does not contain anchovies and tastes wrong. Strangely HP sauce is easy to find. I’m in the US.

Snuffalo · 26/03/2019 18:25

I’m from Tennessee, been in the uk 12 years. I miss:
Tomatoes that taste of tomatoes
Fried chicken
Barbecue (slow-cooked smoked meats, not the act of cooking outdoors, though the British don’t really get that right, either)
Dairy Queen
Mexican food
Thunderstorms
Hot weather
Being a size 8 instead of a size 12
Giant glasses of iced tea in restaurants with endless refills
Waffle House

Snuffalo · 26/03/2019 18:26

@needadvices no one is offended dear, what country is it?

butteryellow · 26/03/2019 18:28

I miss something from every country I've lived in - at the moment I'm in Ireland, so actually not missing much from the UK - we even get the BBC!

But from other places, I'm missing weather warm enough for a pool, a house with a decent sized garden, that isn't one of 1000 other identical houses on an estate. I'm missing really good asian food (although I have a lead on a good Thai), Valet parking, affordable car insurance, international schools with bus transport - basically all the stuff that makes life really easy. On the bright side, everything's in english, I have M&S, good beer, fish and chips, friendly neighbours.

anniehm · 26/03/2019 18:31

When I lived in the USA I missed proper cream cakes, decent bread that didn't cost a small fortune, gravy granules, Christmas foods, decent cheese that I didn't have to remortgage to afford. I shipped in teabags with visiting relatives!

Now I'm back, I do miss kettle corn, street festivals, but most things are easily bought here

Raeven · 26/03/2019 18:34

Scotland (miles from the sea) and I miss chips with scraps and the Suffolk beaches that were 10 minutes away.

mbosnz · 26/03/2019 18:35

I miss Jules Taylor savignon blanc, masterfoods tuscan seasoning, bluff oysters, Talleys marinaded mussels, our butchers mint honey marinaded lamb rack, feijoas, Whittakers Ghana chocolate.

I'm slowly tracking down sources for most of these, barring the lamb rack, lol. For that, I'm experimenting with marinades.

Oh, and the mountains, and crayfish, and our whitebait, which is quite different to your whitebait.

mbosnz · 26/03/2019 18:37

Oh, like butteryellow, on the bright side, I have M&S, The Guardian, M&S GF sausage rolls, M&S GF flour, New Lynn Market, and I love all year round tropical fruits and berries.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 26/03/2019 18:38

I’m in Canada. I’m missing a decent curry (none at the restaurants here), scotch eggs and pork pie.

DH misses Waitrose low fat fresh custard. Can only get Birds powder or regular Ambrosia in tins.

MinesaBottle · 26/03/2019 18:39

mbosnz DH is also a Kiwi and would like me to tell you you’ve made him homesick Grin He also misses L&P (now Ocado no longer have it) and Twisties (his tastes are less refined than yours!)

MinesaBottle · 26/03/2019 18:40

Oh and I’ve spent enough time in NZ that I miss Kapiti ice cream bars. And proper fish and chips.

chemenger · 26/03/2019 18:41

I do miss being able to buy reasonably priced bread that doesn’t turn out to be either sweet or sour. I like sourdough but it seems to be either that or sweet tasting, sometimes I just want bread tasting bread.

mbosnz · 26/03/2019 18:41

(Waves frantically to MinesaBottle and her DH) - we got so homesick last week after all the troubles in our poor little hometown that we did an order online with the New Zealand shop (SANZA), and got L&P and Watties Spaghetti and tomato sauce - and the rotten sods sent us the sugar free L&P, lol! (Still worth it. . .)
