Moved to the US from the UK. Love it here and wouldn’t move back but there’s quite a lot I miss! Battered sausage, chips & curry sauce is a constant craving. I miss pubs, fry ups and the National trust. I’m also sad that I now can’t join the WI Grin

Where did you move to & what do you miss?

I'm in the north of England from Ireland.

I miss proper brown (soda) bread, red lemonade and the fish and chips from the pub by Brittas Bay in Co wicklow

I don't miss the crap public transport

LittleBirdBlues · 26/03/2019 19:38

It's such a cliche but I miss being able to buy proper bread everywhere. I'm German.

And outdoor swimming pools. There seem to be a lot more of them in Germany, and I really missed having one on my doorstep last summer.

I also miss supermarket 🛒 that steer properly. And them being called trollies not carts.

mbosnz · 26/03/2019 19:40

Isn't it funny how bread is such a thing? It's just never the same as home. . .

Interesting re fruit and veg. I am British and always thought I disliked tomatoes. Then I went to Italy tried a tomato there. Mind. Blown. It was like a different fruit. So delicious. Why are ours so shit?

I miss Tilda microwave rice, daily shower spray and proper tea bags. However I love the gf food here, the fancy fruit and black tea, and the paleo bread sandwich from the 7-11!

MachinicianMagician · 26/03/2019 19:59

Hot Chocolate Doughnuts were a speciality of my home town. No longer available and none of the alternatives taste the same Sad

Pubs, Craft ales (particularly IPAs)

DIY Nacho kits

Dominos pizza

The music scene

Swearing publically Grin

Wearing mini skirts

Winter clothes

Can you guess whereabouts I live? Wink

I miss living at my Mums.
The chats, the laughs, the support (emotional ups and downs). We were piss poor, life was hard but I was still happier and less lonely than i am living in a beautiful detached house, stable income with dd and oh.
I've lived out since 1997......

I have strange nostalgia for the bus that I used to get home all the time, I see it most mornings and it brings back memories of listening to tunes, daydreaming while I looked out of the window and meandering up the hill to my house from the bus stop. With the best dog in the world waiting ❤️

I miss the fruit and veg from back home so much, not really found any as nice in the UK , hopefully I can grow some, everything is seasonal though so swings and roundabouts.

I miss nice weather to an extent, but I certainly don't miss the extreme heat or the fact the grass is scorched from June to September and then it starts dying out. The UK is so green.

Do miss people being more easily approachable and parks being full even in the evening (spotlights everywhere!), we were back in summer and it was still packed at 8-9. Oh, and parks don't have woodchip things on the ground, but those mat things that let water seep through, much prefer that!

I lived in NZ about 10 years ago and I still miss the Sauvignon blanc, Whittaker’s chocolate, pineapple lumps, the round rice crackers in loads of flavours (Waitrose occasionally have the bbq ones but they weren’t my fave) and onion dip! And Tim tams and mint slices (although I know they’re Aussie!) And the people of course and beautiful scenery. I often have yearnings to return but it’s just so far from family.

When I was away from the UK I missed tea bags and baked beans - I could get nearly everything else

Blompitude · 26/03/2019 21:12

I'm in France and love it but I do miss:
Marmite, HP sauce and salad cream - can get them here but they require a small mortgage to buy. Dairy Milk chocolate. Gravy. Cumberland sausages. Clotted cream! Pickle.
Country pubs.
Charity shops, especially Oxfam books and music.

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 26/03/2019 21:14

Fish and chips. Jaffa cakes. Mr Kipling products. The Co-op. Being able to walk to places without dying in the heat or almost being run over. Being able to cycle to places. My friends. Starbucks. Reasonably priced paperback books. Prime delivery. Deliveroo. My family. My house in what I always considered to be a totally ‘meh’ part of a totally ‘meh’ city. Now I think with joy of the smells in the garden, the noise of neighbours mowing their lawns, greenery! Real greenery! Carpets. I miss carpets.
I miss my amazing bed. I miss the tube. I miss Waterstones even though they won’t pay a living wage. I miss reasonably priced clothing. I miss driving with manners. Greggs. Going to the library and it not being a time portal to 1979. Open minded attitudes to reproductive rights.

In no particular order of course!
