Deodorant for 7 yo DD

Sorry posting here for traffic.

Any recommendations for a gentle but effective deodorant for children.

DD 7 is having investigations for precocious puberty. We go back to paediatrician in September but since we saw him at the start of March she has had BO a few times which was really noticeable at the end of school yEsterday so we had a little chat about using my deodorant today.

I would hate for her to be worried/picked on. Any advice as to an effective but gentle deodorant please?

Hi I have an 8 year old who is the same. The smell can be very noticeable but she hates using deodrant. So I will be following for advice also.

I buy my ds a non aluminium roll on. I thinks it's called bionsen. It's blue. Very gentle and effective.

Washing with soap and Simple deodorant/antiperspirant if it's not an everyday thing. You probably want something gentle at that age. Soap really does help and for smelly armpits. Good luck.

Pitrok is pretty good. Not cheap but lasts forever and v kind to skin

I bought my boyfriend one from a brand called ‘Ben and Anna’ because it comes in a cardboard tube that you press up from the bottom and I’m trying to go plastic free on toiletries! It’s not an antiperspirant and it’s all natural ingredients/vegan/cruelty free etc. I’ve not used it but he really likes it so far and he says it works well.

Only downside is it’s pricey for a deodorant

Took my DD7 to doctors as she had a BO smell at end of each day and they said it was pretty normal. She now uses a Dr Organic Rose Otto deodorant. Has made a huge difference.

Agree, ditch shower gels, use soap.

My 9 year old ds uses one called Keepitkind - no alcohol, parabens or aluminium. We picked it up in Sainsbury's.

I'd make sure her armpits get a wash in the morning, with Dove soap or the like. Then a deodorant rather than an anti-perspirant. Bionasen also do a mess free stick. It's very good.

My 8 year old uses nuud, no nasties in it and only needs applying twice a week. Think I'm going to start using it myself! nuudcare.co.uk/

Agree with DarkChocolate - use soap and not shower gel. Stay stinkfree for longer.

My DD is the same. She has early adrenarche. Just washing with soap doesn’t stop the BO ( which she’s had since she age 6!).

We use Pitrock. Very effective, especially if you apply just after washing. It isn’t antiperspirant so ok for kids.

I like Urtecram, you can also get the Green People ones, one of which is unperfumed. Bionsen is a cheaper option.

i second Pitrok - keepitkind didn't work for mine.

DD12 uses Salt of the Earth (bit like Pitrok, I think). Started using it about age 9-10.They do a travel one which is a handy size for children. You have to either wet the stick or apply to damp pits - which sometimes DD cba with - although the last time I was in Holland & Barrett I noticed Salt of the Earth also now do a spray and roll-on version too. I use it myself now after trying DD's and find it very effective. DD (and I) tried Bionsen and it didn't work for either of us.

pitrock contains alaun, which is an aluminium salt.
just mentioning this in case you want to avoid that.
I second using bar soap. flannel wash in the morning and bath evening.
also consider her wearing a vest and washing her tops at a high temperature on a long wash.

I will see what I can get today. We are trying to reduce plastic and use shampoo bars and soap bars already. She has a shower every evening and a wash in the mornings. She always has a clean vest and polo each day but I have also had to change her cardigans each day when she has the BO and they smell comes all the way through.

I am trying not to make a big thing if any of the changes she is experiencing and normalising (is his a real word?) it as much as possible.

Lush do a deodorant bar that works very well, but does take some getting used to. That said if she doesn't have any prior knowledge of roll-ons then it won't be as weird for her!

My 11year old has the one pictured, though I don't think it does much, her BO has been unmentionable since she was turning 10.

I'm a huge fan of Pitrok and Salt of the Earth rock salt mineral bars.

And Lush do a patchouli deodorant bar which you also put on to wet underarms, or just wet the bar before rubbing on.

I've always had BO problems myself and have to use soap, not gels, to wash with. I've this week started using a hypoallergenic bar with no perfumes or nasties in, and used it in the shower before bed last night with no deodorant and this morning there was no smell. I can't remember where I got it from though.

I sympathise, my daughter doesn't notice the smell at all, but it was when she came to give me a hug the summer before last that I suddenly got a faceful

Earth Conscious do a deodorant stick in a cardboard tube (or a deo paste in a tin) - no aluminium, parabens, plastic etc. and the unscented one has only 5 ingredients.

Despite the natural credentials, it's very effective. A little goes a long way.

My child uses a roll on (so not breathing in cannisters of spray deodorant), it's aluminium free. And its a sensitive to skin.

I bought one for myself but i didnt find it effective.
So i recommend for kids, it's great and gentle, but not strong enough for myself. Hopefully he can keep using aluminium free until the teen years overpower it!
