A LARGE box of chocolates.

Just discovered that my DH scoffed the entirety of a large box of Lindt assorted chocolates over the weekend by himself (bar two pieces that he offered me on Friday).

I feel... Repulsed. We rarely buy 'treats' (his idea) because he has poor self control. He bought these on Friday with the excuse reason that it was an anniversary weekend.

I only know about the choc demolition because I had a peek inside the box just now only to find a few empty wrappers Shock. It's also the fact that the box is left in place...

AIBU to feel this way? Genuinely conflicted .. I feel somewhat controlling .

A LARGE box of chocolates.

Repulsed? What a strange choice of words to use about someone eating one box of chocolates. Plus he's an adult, whyvdoes he need an excuse to buy a treat? You sound controlling

MillyMollyMandy2018 · 26/03/2019 07:56

I think my DH must feel repulsed by me most weekends in that case...

GoGoGadgetGin · 26/03/2019 07:56

This reminds me of the 'creme egg' thread with the rage at the partner for eating chocolate that OP didn't want!

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 26/03/2019 07:58

I'd be irritated at him taking more than his fair share, and very annoyed at him leaving the empty box and wrappers in the cupboard, but the speed at which he consumed them? No, not my problem. I think it's clear there are deeper issues here.

LadyGAgain · 26/03/2019 07:58

Husband = on the money
You = need to reassess your chocolate behaviours Grin

buzzbobbly · 26/03/2019 07:58

Repulsed? It's chocolate for fucks sake, not heroin.

This. Get over it, you sound slightly deranged.

RMogs · 26/03/2019 07:58

Once my husband (or on occasion I) open a box of chocolates in our house, they're pretty much gone.
More DH than me, but I know if they get opened he will offer me some, and I either need to take now, or accept that by the time I fancy some they will be gone.

He also doesn't know about my posh chocolate stash in my bedside table.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/03/2019 07:59

LARGE box of chocolates my arse.

Are you a borrower or something?

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/03/2019 08:00

I came of fantasising about a LARGE Hotel Chocolate box and was sadly disappointed. I'd be a bit annoyed he hadn't left me any and then send him to the shop to buy me something nice like Godiva.

From your reaction, you aren't happy with his inability to manage his control issue around food.

tokirara · 26/03/2019 08:02

Thanks everyone for views.

It's is a large box (not the "standard" size), there were 25+ chocolate balls.

Repulsed was a bad choice of word, though I did feel very strongly annoyed upon discovering the empty box. We spent the whole weekend together and what annoys me is he bought them claiming they were for us to share and enjoy, then proceeded to polish them off in stealth subsequently (we were mostly together over the weekend and yesterday evening, so he could have offered me one when helping himself). Tbh I'd forgotten about the chocolates completely till last night, didn't know where he put them either, so it was a surprise to find an empty box.

Not judging the PP who think it's normal to scoff the lot in a day or two, but you gotta admit it's an unhealthy sugar overload. Confused

Good morning Daily Mail (trash of the earth).

Just waving as they will be here soon

applesarerroundandshiny · 26/03/2019 08:03

Lol - my DH would have polished these off in one go! And even I would have eaten them over a weekend.

strathmore · 26/03/2019 08:04

Ps. You are bonkers! Totally irrational response.

3luckystars · 26/03/2019 08:04

People who put empty wrappers back into boxes are absolute assholes.

PosiePerkinandPootle · 26/03/2019 08:06

I wouldn't be repulsed by his ability to eat that size box of chocolates in a weekend, as I know I could. I'd be fuming that he didn't offer any more to me after Friday night, especially as they were bought for a joint celebration. Surely he has a little self control. If someone buys me chocolates I could leave them unopened for a week but once I open them they'd be gone in a flash. DH has had chocolates in the cupboard for months but I've not opened them at all, because they are not mine to open.

ScrewyMcScrewup · 26/03/2019 08:06

I think you need to practice your 'not judging!'

Nearly everybody on this thread thinks you reacted strangely. Does that give you pause for thought at all?

TeachesOfPeaches · 26/03/2019 08:08

They're on sale for £5.50 at Tesco if you want more. I would easily eat the lot in front of the telly on a Saturday night.

TeachesOfPeaches · 26/03/2019 08:09

You must be the woman who posted about sharing one tin of tuna between 3 people Confused

winsinbin · 26/03/2019 08:10

I would be upset if we bought something to share and DP hogged it all. OTOH I know there are some things he likes much more than I do (`Terry's Chocolate Oranges) and if we had one of those I really wouldn’t expect to get more than a token segment.

A box of 26/27 chocolates eaten over a weekend would not be great as a regular things but seems fine to me as an occasional treat.

What disturbs me most about this post is the emotive use of the word repulsed. It’s judgemental and harsh. It’s also the sort of word my anorexic sister will use to describe herself when she manages to eat what the rest of us would consider normal food. To me it smacks of confusing food consumption/weight/self denial with self worth. Her anorexia means she has a joyless life.

I don’t know you OP. I don’t know if you have food issues. You may just used this word carelessly. You might have issues around control and self will that are unconnected with food. But to be repulsed by human failing is not unconditional love.

tokirara · 26/03/2019 08:10

IABU to overreact at the empty box, I accept that!

OP posts:
spaniorita · 26/03/2019 08:10

Hahaa!! Why are you policing your husband's food intake?? He's an adult, you need to get a grip. If this was a husband being controlling over a wife's intake of chocolate we all know what would be said. get another box and/or get over it!!

steff13 · 26/03/2019 08:10

That's not a large box. I but a box every year at Christmas to add to gift bags - 300 truffles. That's a LARGE box. 😉

tokirara · 26/03/2019 08:11

You must be the woman who posted about sharing one tin of tuna between 3 people eh!?

Repulsed is quite telling, I know you say it's a bad choice of words but it is the one you chose. I'd be annoyed that DH had scoffed my share, but can see how it's doable, we went to the lindt store that does the pick and mix of these, in flavours you wouldn't even know they did, we bought a large bag and they were in the kitchen on the work top. So it is quite easy each time you make a cup of tea, wash up, go to check on dinner to think ooh that flavour sounds nice and have one, DH would probably have two as they're only small - so five/six in a day easily doable. Your DH recognises his poor impulse control which is why you don't usually have them in the house.

SallyWD · 26/03/2019 08:15

@tokirara I understand! I'd be disappointed if my husband ate all those chocolates that were meant for us. I also agree it's a lot of chocolate. I'd probably eat 3 max each day not 8! I agree it's too much sugar but obviously we're in a minority 😂.
