Frustrated with tenants?

I’m trying to view a house and the tenants have refused to let me view it both times. Appointments been booked in advance and then they say it’s not a good time an hour before.

I get it if you don’t want to actually leave the property (not sure if that’s the situation or not) but I’m just being messed around now.

I agree talk to the estate agents, why shouldn’t you buy this house if it ticks all your boxes. One way or another the tenants are leaving either with their dignity and rental history in tact or not but they are going if the house is to be sold. You might just have to wait, but why not ? We had to wait a year for our house sale, nobody died and we got their in the end.

OftenHangry · 25/03/2019 17:38

Same happened to us.
3x!

Just move on. You don't want to buy something what you can't see and the bank will not manage to get their valuator in too. We moved on and it worked out even better for us. Got email 6 months later if we want to view, that the tenants are not there anymore...

OftenHangry · 25/03/2019 17:39

3x cancelled. Not 3 houses

It's a bit much to suggest that tenants are jeopardising their rental history and losing their dignity if they don't want to allow viewings while they're out!

SarahAndQuack · 25/03/2019 17:49

thank, I'm not trying to have a go at you by saying you didn't respond to that question. I assumed you didn't respond because you didn't know.

I just think that if you possibly can, you might make direct contact with the tenants and see if that helps things along. Maybe they are just uncooperative and won't play ball, but it's worth a try, just in case the situation is what lots of us who are tenants have experienced, with agents who haven't been very honest.

PCohle · 25/03/2019 17:53

Presumably if the tenants are refusing viewings the last thing they want is to be contacted by prospective purchasers directly? As a tenant I would have found that really intrusive.

AnyFucker · 25/03/2019 18:06

These tenant/ landlord threads always go crazy

SarahAndQuack · 25/03/2019 18:07

Really? Fair enough.

I think if I found out from a buyer that my letting agent had been lying to her and to me, I would have some fellow-feeling with the buyer. In all honesty, if the agent hasn't been lying, and the tenants are agreeing viewings then cancelling repeatedly at short notice, I think they're being dickish and deserve to feel annoyed.

SarahAndQuack · 25/03/2019 18:07

They do that, AF.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 25/03/2019 18:19

become LLs and then had 'trouble' with their pesky tenants (who actually are responsible for paying off your mortgage while you do pretty much fuck all ).

This^

thedisorganisedmum · 25/03/2019 18:32

it must be exhausting to hate someone making a "profit" from you.
Landlord, supermarket, energy companies, pharmaceutical industry, any producer of good or services really Grin

Lizzie48 · 25/03/2019 18:33

^This is very true. The LL will have to serve notice on the tenants and sell the house once it's empty.

I'm sure you'll find another proper that ticks all your boxes.

MN😁

CalmDownPacino · 25/03/2019 18:46

There's a slight difference between a supermarket and a landlord.

OftenHangry · 25/03/2019 18:49

There's a slight difference between a supermarket and a landlord.

Someone grows tomatoes. Supermarket buys them and then puts their margin on it. You don't want to pay, you don't eat.

Someone builds a house. Landlord buys it and then puts their margin on it. You don't want to pay, you don't live there.

Princip is the same.

HarrysOwl · 25/03/2019 18:50

Landlords offer a product (property) and tenants pay a fee (rent) to use.

I don't understand the landlord haters on MN. If you could buy a house as an investment to then rent out for an income, while abiding by all regulation, why shouldn't you?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 25/03/2019 19:16

Except 1)supply and demand for tomatoes is much different than that of rental properties and 2) if tomatoes are too expensive in every single supermarket you can get to then you can just not buy them- there are lots of other foods. if rents are too high in all the places you can live then you’re homeless. Slight difference in outcome.

Xyzzzzz · 25/03/2019 19:19

When I rented I didn’t let people come and look round...mainly due to issues with the agents and landlord. They screwed me over so I did the same. Not the most adult way to behave but they were such dicks to me I was one back

ILoveMaxiBondi · 25/03/2019 19:19

There is also no risk of ASDA giving you notice to return your tomato in its original condition hanging over you permanently.

Stinkycatbreath · 25/03/2019 19:20

I must admit I had an awful landlord who had got into debt on the house so I was harrangued by bailiffs in the last few weeks I was there. The house was up for sale and I was waiting for news about a new job in another city so didn't want to take out another tenancy in the area. I had enough and made it as awkward as possible to facilitate viewings saying it had to be only when I was present. I left the house a total mess and refused entry after them showing someone round when I didn't know. I kept it up for weeks. People got fed up xmc left me alone after a while. I imagine this tenant has nowhere else to go and has been hassled by their current landlord ......or they could be a complete horror. I acted in the way I did coz of a rubbish landlord. Unless the house is amazing I would t touch it with a barge pole.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 25/03/2019 19:21

If I get the tomato home and find out its rotten inside I’m not forced to eat it while trying to find another tomato and still pay for the rotten tomato that’s making me feel sick. I can just return to Asda and get a refund.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 25/03/2019 19:22

I’m starting to think tomatoes and houses aren’t actually the same thing...

Inliverpool1 · 25/03/2019 19:26

ILoveMaxiBondi - equally if you eat or tomatoes or do £40,000 worth of damage to it ASDA won’t potentially lose all its other tomatoes and their ability to buy their own food.
I prefer the hotel analogy - for whatever reason you want to go to Spain for however long suits you, you don’t want to make the commitment that the hotel own has, you don’t want to maintain the hotel etc and do you pay a premium - actually often you don’t. But both parties agree to the specific timeframe. You’d hardly moan about the maid coming in to clean for 10 minutes so it’s similar to a property inspection or viewing.

Lizzie48 · 25/03/2019 19:26

I'm sure you'll find another proper that ticks all your boxes.

That should read 'property', flipping predictive text. Blush

Seriously, OP, this isn't worth the extra stress; house hunting is stressful enough. There will be somewhere else.
