Viper84 · 23/03/2019 21:05

Does anyone have any recommendations for a coffee machine at home please?
Have got a tassimo but the uht style milk puts me off, and I would love to use my own milk.
Thanks in advance 😊

I love my Aeropress! Bit more effort, but my parents have a Nespresso machine and I much prefer the coffee my Aeropress makes. I froth the milk for a latte, you can control how much coffee and water goes in so you get just the right coffee for you and I like grinding beans for a really fresh taste.

Stickerrocks · 23/03/2019 21:24

Just buy a stove top pot & save your money for a monthly decent subscription like Coffee Factory.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/03/2019 21:25

Good beans, a small grinder, and a French press is all you need.

burritofan · 23/03/2019 21:26

Bialetti stovetop espresso maker with nicest coffee you can afford. Microwave some milk, pour on coffee, done.

Unclebuck3 · 23/03/2019 21:29

SparklesandFlowers - How do you froth the milk? I really want to make cappuccino at home but hate the pod style coffee machines and can’t afford a barista style coffee machine 🤷‍♀️

Skyzalimit · 23/03/2019 21:29

We have a Delonghi Magnifico. Bean to cup with a milk frother. Took a few days to learn how to use it, with the help of You Tube, but I love it

GinUnicorn · 23/03/2019 21:31

We use the smeg machine with a decent grinder. Works pretty well!

WhiteNancy · 23/03/2019 21:31

Another vote for the Delonghi Magnifica.

I also use a Bialetti sometimes.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/03/2019 21:35

You can get a milk frother from Ikea for a pound. Or I got a mini milk kettle and frother from Lidl for about £15 but it was a special deal so I don't know how often they come up.

moonbells · 23/03/2019 21:42

I cheat.

I have a decent burr grinder set to grind the right amount and coarseness for my taste, and a cheap Breville permanent filter machine which isn't the world's best design but works (all it needs to do is heat water and drip it onto the coffee) and is easy to clean.

For those who want frothy milk, heat milk in a jug and use an old cafetiere to whip it to a froth by whooshing the filter plate up and down! Grin

Works for me...

SparklesandFlowers · 23/03/2019 21:58

Unclebuck3 - we have an Ikea battery-powered, hand-held frother. It works fine for up to about an inch of froth on a latte but I'm not sure it would work to froth a lot for a cappuccino. Could be worth trying though as they're not that expensive.

ethelfleda · 23/03/2019 21:59

If you don’t get much time and you don’t want the faff - get a Nespresso.
Otherwise, burr coffee grinder & pump espresso machine. Takes a while to master the perfect espresso shot but it’s worth it.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2019 22:13

I have the Delonghi Dedica. Simple to use and really good.

Tinkhasflown · 23/03/2019 22:17

Delonghi bean to cup machine here. We replaced our Nespresso with it and it has been one of my best home purchases.

BunsOfAnarchy · 23/03/2019 22:18

Depends on budget I would say.

I would lay my life down for my DeLonghi Magnifica. Bean to cup. Milk steamer on the side. Fucking sexual.
Id marry that machine. In fact i dont know what's stopping me from marrying it..

k1233 · 23/03/2019 22:26

I have one of these - one of the best things I've ever bought! I love it! Mine was the model before this but is a beautiful red Smile and has just made me another perfect coffee. It makes really good coffee.

I had a problem two years after I bought it, with a leak in the pipe to the frother. Delonghi were absolutely fantastic. Even though it was out of warranty, they fixed under warranty. Cannot fault the customer service or the machine.

I wanted a coffee machine for ages, but not pods because of the plastic / packaging associated with them and the fact the machine makers could change the pods and make you gave to buy a new machine. Coffee bean machines were quite expensive and then I saw this one, which was on sale, so a really reasonable price.

DrWhy · 23/03/2019 22:28

We have a delonghi bean to cup machine, not sure what model but I bought it for DHs 30th birthday so basically set my budget and looked for the ones from that brand that got the best reviews on Amazon around that price. He loves it and I have recently started using the milk frother to make ‘bubbly milk’ for DS and hot chocolate for me. If you possibly can invest in one the bean to cup machines are zero effort to use, no waste pods and coffee drinkers seem to like what they produce (it’s wasted on me - all coffee tastes like burnt cardboard!).

ivykaty44 · 23/03/2019 22:29

Viper I purchased a lavazzer milk frothier and use a tassini - jyst not their sweetened milk

snowball28 · 23/03/2019 22:33

I have a nespresso with an aerochino, really rate it. Nice coffee selection, not too expensive and makes a really delicious coffee with no faff

anniehm · 23/03/2019 22:33

I have a grinder and a cafetière, I don't drink milk. We used to have a delongi espresso machine which had a milk frother the kids used for hot chocolate that was pretty good (you must use a metal jug) when mil visited and wanted latte but we got rid because we couldn't be bothered to use it when aforementioned cafetière is better so got rid.

Daisymay2 · 23/03/2019 22:35

Coffee loving son adores his Aeropress- as he makes coffee for one. I send him vaccum packed ground coffee from our local coffee roasting deli.

PrtScn · 23/03/2019 22:36

We have a Nescafé Dolce Gusto Jovia by De'Longhi. It’s OK, but I personally find that it doesn’t heat the water as hot as I’d like. I’ve also decided I’m not a fan of plastic pods anymore. They are convenient, making it quick amd easy for a songle cup of coffee, but wasteful.
So I’d probably not recommend it.

Ffsnosexallowed · 23/03/2019 22:38

We've had lots of machines - but I love my aeropress now. Key is to have fresh beans. Freshly ground and plenty of them.

BlueEyedBengal · 23/03/2019 22:41

American espresso stove top coffee pot the and a good quality ground coffee of your choice. The best and leaves a lovely coffee smell in your kitchen. I also love the sound of bubbling coffee coming through the filter.

HostessTrolley · 23/03/2019 22:47

Delonghi eletta plus and lavazzo Rosso beans. It’s the shit, or so I‘m told by my teens - I haven’t made a single cup of instant since we got it.
