AIBU to ask people to just spend 2 minutes looking at these pictures? *MNHQ warning for images containing items relating to Child Sexual Abuse*

Europol are once again asking members of the public for help with solving child sex abuse cases. In many explicit photos of children there are clues in the backgrounds (objects / scenery) that can help Europol identify the locations the images were taken, and help therefore identify where the exploited children have come from and find the perpetrators. Europol are therefore asking for the public to help identify objects / scenery from the backgrounds of some explicit photos taken of children. All explicit material / images of children have been removed from the pictures before being posted by Europol. I figure Mumsnet with a large international readership may well have at least one member who can identify an item / location from one of the images posted, so if we can all spend 2 minutes viewing the images it may well help Europol with their investigations.

Another bump as the hour changes.

Well done to the pp who've been able to identify anything from the pictures.

I too read the article linked earlier in the thread and it was truly heartbreaking.

ShadyLady53 · 25/03/2019 11:16

I also think I’ve identified something, an unusual product that’s only made on a small island and I’ve used the contact form. Really hope it helps as this is so very sad.

starabara · 25/03/2019 12:02

@runsmidgeOMG

I agree. I think those tables are/were at the Komtar in George Town, Penang, Malaysia in circa 2004.

Persimmonn · 25/03/2019 14:53

Absolutely heartbreaking. More people need to know about this. Another bump. Well done to the people who may have found something to report.

KeenoOnVino · 25/03/2019 15:04

Starabara. That is exactly the place I thought of as soon as I saw that photo. I was there in approx 2007.

PoliticalBiscuit · 25/03/2019 15:06

Vanguard that's awesome!

Not been able to identify anything but just giving this a bump, we Mumsnetters are great at sleuthing.

howmanybiscuits · 25/03/2019 15:15

we Mumsnetters are great at sleuthing indeed we are.

This is unbelievable. A couple of days, a few seconds of one's time, and vital evidence might be found.

I wonder if mumsnet would consider this something they could host routinely. In partnership with Europol? It feeds so comprehensively into their raison d'etre.

Would you consider asking them?

Twelve million unique users per month on mumsnet. That's a shed load of help.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 25/03/2019 15:32

Sadly don't recognise anything but bumping.

Haworthia · 25/03/2019 15:42

This thread seems so pertinent now I’ve watched the last couple of episodes of the Madeleine McCann documentary on Netflix. It really opened my eyes to online paedophile networks and human trafficking.

TheVanguardSix · 25/03/2019 16:27

kitkat absolutely! What a great idea!
I’m just one person and 2 of the images I identified are confirmed correct (by other users who identified way before me- but still, my eyes, your eyes, their eyes, thousands of eyes have seen these images and there’s been success in identifying locations/products.).

The power of the compassion is undeniable.

KitKat1985 · 25/03/2019 17:10

Thank you for everyone who has taken the time to look at these images. I know it's emotionally difficult to look at the images even though they show nothing graphic, but it's really encouraging to see that some people on here think they may have seen something that can help Europol with their investigations. I knew Mumsnet users would try to help. It just seemed like such a good place to share the link given that it's a large online international community with many users being parents and / or interested in child welfare.

@MNHQ re: Datun's suggestion above, is a permanent link on your homepage to the Europol website a possibility?

Bumping again

puppy23 · 25/03/2019 20:33

Nothing recognised. However, if say they find out where a certain tshirt was bought for example, how does this help them? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here

WantToRunThere · 25/03/2019 21:01

Bump

I didn't recognise anything sadly, but the first picture of that little girls top really got to me, she could have only have been about 3, poor little baby.

wobblebot · 26/03/2019 01:21

This has made me feel so sick and upset. The silhouettes especially. Those poor poor children Sad

Decormad38 · 26/03/2019 01:37

Read but do not recognise any items or locations unfortunately. Great idea to do this though.
