AIBU to tell the girl sat next to me that the guy she's on a date with is a total dick? (Light hearted)

I'm having a cheeky coffee on my own and there's a couple on the table next to me who clearly don't know each other that well. (They are swapping the kind of info you do on an early date.) And I'm thinking I might fall off my chair cos I've been eye-rolling so hard at the pretentious tripe this guy is coming out with.

Should I tell the girl to run, as quick as she can?!

He sounds cool.

MyOldBrainStoppedWorking · 23/03/2019 13:44

Why are some people implying that having a date at 11.30am is weird?

For a first date (no idea if this is or not), it's quite normal to meet for a coffee and a chat.
Not all dates have to be drinking and eating in the evening.

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 23/03/2019 13:44

Jux that's a genius idea.

MNHQ should start a campaign to make it happen!

ralphfromlordoftheflies · 23/03/2019 13:51

Now I really want to hear lots of overheard bad date stories.

TheSultanofPingu · 23/03/2019 13:56

Wow! A young man in a coffee shop talking to a young woman about 90s comics and this makes him a mansplaining dickhead!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/03/2019 14:01

You've got no idea whether they actually were on a date or anything about him. I don't understand why you would listen in to their conversation then start a thread about it.

NuffSaidSam · 23/03/2019 14:04

'Such a juvenile turn of speech.'

Yes, god forbid anyone be juvenile on a light-hearted thread, on an anonymous chat forum, on a Saturday afternoon!

There's a jokey chocolate bar thread active at the moment too! Best pop over there and tell them to cut it out! We don't want juvenile behaviour on Mumsnet.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 23/03/2019 14:10

Where's the link to the Chocolate Thread Sam.. I've feeling a little Lenten deprivation.

NuffSaidSam · 23/03/2019 14:16

It's 'Lion Bar con' in AIBU.

I warn you though it's quite juvenile!

SandAndSea · 23/03/2019 14:47

I love a cheeky coffee myself and if that's juvenile, I'm fine with that too!

I disagree Kennehora, that's just the prism you're choosing to view it through.

I saw it as the OP taking a bit of a time-out from her day and being entertained while she was there and sharing it in a lighthearted way.

But all the joy-suckers on this thread have put a stop to that. Luckily for me, I've already found the chocolate con thread.

WarpedGalaxy · 23/03/2019 16:11

I disagree RedHatsDoNotSuitMe that’s just the prism you’re choosing to view it through.

See how that works both ways?

I don’t like the use of ‘cheeky coffee’ either and yet I posted a silly contribution on the lion con thread yesterday before this thread was posted.

It’s almost like we shouldn’t be defined or judged by a single post on a single thread or, indeed, a single overheard conversation in a coffee shop.

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 23/03/2019 16:59

Reasonable point Warped.

Except the last half sentence... because the joy of people watching is that this is exactly what you do, although in the knowledge that you're only seeing a tiny segment.

I can still choose to enjoy threads like these, though.

donquixotedelamancha · 23/03/2019 17:26

Fuck me why do posts pick something totally unrelated out of a post about something else instead of commenting about the actual subject?

I don't know what you are talking about. This never happens.

Anyway...90s comic books were awful. Was anyone else massively disappointed by the death of superman arc?

Ladymarystwin · 24/03/2019 18:43

I loved the "cheeky" coffee description! Grin
